Jo's agent was Leon Rose, but he's now with the Knicks. He let him go before he negotiated the contract on his own, so he takes home every single cent of that contract, smart move. I'm guessing he'll hire an agent at some point.

It makes you think...

Why do max salary players have agents at all?

I'm SURE there are legit reasons. But from a commoner's perspective, it doesn't appear to make sense.

Agents save a lot of time if nothing else.

I don't feel anyone ever really doubted his skill, talent or potential but just his ability to ever stay healthy.

He's technically only played in 260 games since he was drafted in 2014 and is heading towards 30.

After your twenties, yes you head to your 30s. He's 27, let's not act like he's old, he's basically just beginning his prime, and might not have even started yet.

And when you head into your 30s you tend to get injured more easily than in your early to mid 20s when you are more spry. I haven't seen anything yet to see how Embiid will be healthier in his coming years than he had been up to this point.

I honestly wish him the best but it would be pretty unique in NBA history for a player to miss less games and be healthier the older he gets. It would be great to see Embiid play 65+ games in a season but he hasn't done so from ages 20 through 26 will he start at 27?

Obviously there is injury risk, but he has not had a major injury since he started playing. Apart from the back injury pre draft and the two navicular injuries, he's had minor injuries. AD is more injury prone than him, but would you scoff at giving him the supermax? The NBA is a star league, and Embiid is a star of epic proportions. The sixers had to give him the supermax if they want to continue to contend. Most supermaxes don't age well. That's the nature of the CBA, can't really blame Embiid for what the league and players negotiated for them. Every injury of his this year apart from the injury in the playoffs was of the freak injury variety, I'm not too worried about him to be honest. You can do that for us if you'd like.

ehhh I wouldn't get excited just yet. Harden and PG showed these guys you can sign a max deal and then just force your way out of town.

As for Embiid, he just came off an MVP caliber season, so he earned that contract.

Some "agents" and agencies handle a lot more than just contract negotiations. Some of them serve as Attorneys, Accountants, Financial Advisors, Marketing Agents, Media Coordinators, etc.

More to agents than contract negotiations. Endorsements, appearances, etc. A lot of paperwork and scheduling that the athletes don't have time to handle.

Does he even produce on Shaq circa Suns level once that contract is completely done.

Love Embiid but people forget his career isn't going to be long because of those knees. I guess that is what insurance is for.

the worst part is he doesnt even have any injury insurance he can literally exaggerate an injury starting now go MIA and get 200.
this might be the worst contract in nba history morey i think will very soon flip burgers after fking up westbrook extension and cp3 trade. he already made several mistakes this move is final blow to himself. at least jimmy and westbrook these guys play like their life is on the line for 82 games.

John Wall? Westbrook? Luol Deng (Lakers)? Josh Smith (Pistons)?

I don't think the 76ers had many other options, you just hope he stays healthy enough to earn the money.

Great contract for Joel obviously he’s going get that contract. At least its. It 4 years. I wonder if they made x amount of games for incentives.

Its Good to see star players like Giannis + Embiid stay loyal to their cities which arent seen as glamorous destinations.

Sixers thought they drafted 2 superstars. Its amazing the difference in attitude between Embiid + Ben Simmons .Polar opposites. Embiid has always been loyal to Philly , lives in the city, plays on the public tennis courts,BB courts, goes to the beaches in South Jersey as opposed to LA or Miami and has constantly stated his only goal is to win a Championship for Philly.

Meanwhile Ben Simmons has a very distant relationship with Philly, bought a $20 M house 3000 miles a way in Hollywood , chases alot of celebrity skirts around and has alot of diva in him. Seems to act like he wished he never signed the rookie extension to stay in Philly.

Sounds like he would be happier in LA

No incentives or injury insurance. Fully guaranteed. His first contract had them but not this one.

You have to be a troll account. That or just very young.

Good signing for Joel and the Sixers.

Having a house in LA is hardly unusual for NBA players

Tobias Harris is building a massive place there but it doesn’t get talked about because Ben and stuff

Lol no it didn't. His MVP caliber year and 2nd team all NBA did. His injury did not require surgery.

Possibly but I think most players are going to take that deal if they're eligible.
