What an absolute horrid job by his agent. You think we’re going to budge?

Perhaps he takes Tucker's two-way slot.

So I’m guessing Trey Murphy is in his own tier then lol.

I assume that means not 2-way?

2-ways are all taken up after the Grant Riller signing this morning.

Couldn't they cut Clark or whoever has the other one like they did Tucker?

The other is Aaron Henry, who they just picked up as an undrafted FA. I assume they just want Bassey as an end of bench C for the first year.

Well rather have him on the roster than Tolliver so makes sense.

We were robbed of a Bassey-BBall Paul frontcourt in summer league. Man.. that would have been fun

Sounds like he's going to sign the 1-year minimum deal, couldn't reach an agreement on something longer. Interesting move, he's giving up millions in hand and alienates the team that has his rights--no motive to develop and play him now so might be a pretty lost season--but he also gets to be a full-on free agent soon and maybe try to get himself into a better situation in a year or two. Serious gamble. Maybe his agent knows more about his rep around the league than we do.

Wonder what the Sixers were offering. Or what Bassey was asking for?

Seems like he should’ve been a slam dunk for a 2 year minimum. Strange.

My guess is Sixers would've offered a 2, 3, or 4 year deal, and Bassey said no to all of them. Though maybe the sticking point was Sixers insisting on at least 3 years on the minimum, to make developing him worth the effort.

Might be the reason he fell almost out of the draft. Talent wise he was a top 40ish player. If teams knew he was going to be a tough sign after he wasn't drafted in the first then the most likely outcome was undrafted. We took a flyer hoping he'd come to his senses but it seems he wants to gamble on himself. I doubt we waste any effort on him in terms of development and he'll just languish at the end of the bench and walk at the conclusion of the season. Sucks because he looks like he has some projectable skill.

It's possible, though we probably offered to sign him to a deal that's more or less what late 1st rounders get--2 years guaranteed and then team options after that for the next 2. Maybe they just couldn't come to terms on the salary, rookie minimums are about $1m and late 1sts make more like $2m so maybe both sides insisted on the extremes and that's what broke things down. (Sixers would also have to use cap to sign him to more than a minimum offer, IIRC).

If 2 years was offered, he should have taken it unless there’s something better lined up elsewhere

Now he’s probably viewed as expendable by the Sixers and he’s got no security beyond the season

I also think Bassey’s agent thinks he’s better off playing elsewhere.

The C position is really tough. You can only play one C. Some dont even play with a C.

For me this is a 50-50 call and his agent acts like he is confident with his client to put up all this act.

He will be behind Embiid, Drummond and Reed(tweener). But if him and his agent believe in him to show transferable skills from day 1 (reb, shot blocker and corner jumper) he can surpass them unless they don't have faith doc will play him because he's a rookie
