Maybe homer blinders are on, but who was the last lotto pick who came in with this sort of universally recognized and obvious on court intensity/personality/energy?

Honestly cant think of anyone off the top of my head, but I'm sure I'm overlooking people or just haven't been paying attention to personalities of prospects on other teams

That said, even if Scottie doesnt end up a generational talent, it really seems like he has a generational personality

It's amazing how Scottie's value after Summer League has gone up among NBA scouts and analysts, some of whom said Scottie would've gone even higher if there was a redraft. And yet last week, this board was having a meltdown after one mediocre game in which he was hobbling around during the first half and barely touched the ball.

That's pretty encouraging that they saw so much potential in Scottie.

I m really curious to see how his personality/super energy fits with the team

As long as Scottie waves the towel as well as a cheerleader whenever he is on the bench(not like Thanasis), it should work fine.

I will say I'm not sure how Scottie's personality goes with some of the more calm, quieter guys like Fred, Red VanVleet Flynn, OG etc in our lockerroom but it seems like all the guys from Scottie's draft class love him lol

They just smile when they talk about him and usually describe him as one of their favorite guys to be around. It's interesting because yeah it's not likely being "The North"/the Cold, that we're ever be a huge FA draw. BUT I do think kids are becoming more open to idea of playing here (ie/ when they polled this draft class, it was said majority hoped to be drafted here). I do think winning a chip and some of the association to Drake etc, has made this seem like a better place to land. I'm just saying that because while we might not be a FA destination (now), makes me wonder especially when you look at where the other top guys in his draft class landed (ie/ DET, CLE and ORL - not exactly dream markets), maybe one day they would welcome coming here to team up with Scottie. Personally I expect our franchise to be more successful than theirs over the next 5+ years....for now it's obviously nothing more than a pipedream but just sayin...

Good comp. Arguably also a 'generational personality'. lol I thought he was a reach getting drafted top 10 and was just some energy big who got overhyped based on his personality. iirc that was a pretty common opinion. Turns out having the MOST energy and personality can take you far in the league and he's top 5 in a redraft

This board has a lot of members who are bipolar. Its really hard to get used to the intensity and speed of people trying to dub Barnes a bust as soon as we drafted him. Its like ****, give the kid a damn chance, you'll have plenty of time to dunk on people if he does become a bust.

Idk what the heck Ford is talking about (sure he doesn't either lol)...

But the SL didn't give ammunition to ANY Suggs conversation and/or remorse imo. In fact, it made me feel quite the opposite like it gave me confidence we made the right choice!

That's no hate on Suggs either. Just because we drafted Scottie doesn't mean I suddenly disregard Suggs BUT I just seen flashes in Barnes' two better SL games that made me understand what made our management so enamored with him. I was expecting to see just the same ol stuff from college where he just resembles being another big point forward in the mold of Ben & Giannis, that pushes the ball up court, makes some nice passes then just bullies his way to the rim...

Instead in just that limited time, Barnes imo has shown tremendous growth relative to where he was just a handful a months ago. In his first game he never scored the same way twice. He showed some creation off the dribble, pull up jumpers from mid range and from 3, fadeaways, drives to the basket, floaters, back door cuts, hook shots etc....that's WAY more than I expected and he's doing so in that freakish & manbody build he has. That's exciting af, that for once we actually drafted a freshman lol and he's already made some huge jumps imo over a single summer and we're still yet to even really work with him and he likewise is only going to get bigger and better -- that just had me feeling like we actually have a shot at having a special player.

Coming into the draft, I felt like (still to a much lesser extent now) Suggs was far more likely not to be a bust AND more likely to reach his potential which I believe is a guard around the level of what Kyle, Chauncey etc might be and max out more around Roy with great passing (not as confident in that in a place not known for its development like ORL). On the flipside, just by the growth Scottie has shown on his own in a single summer (and usually we refer to the summer AFTER the 1st year), think of everything he's already shown flashes of in a handful of games, now imagine full years of development with us.... I have WAY more confidence that it's incredibly unlikely he busts and on the flipside have a ton of confidence now, we're gonna make him into a star...with the potential to be a superstar. So nah Ford, miss me with all that Suggs talk, this is Too Hottie Nation.
