Official 2021-2022 Utah Jazz Season Discussion Thread

Post#1 » by Inigo Montoya » Wed Aug 18, 2021 8:30 am

A new thread for a new season.

I wonder if MaCio Teague has a chance to stick with the Jazz. We always end up with injuries at that position and we need to get younger as well.

I hope Eric Paschall has an impact for the Jazz. We don't really have any young, up-and-coming players to get excited about. Udoka and Forrest are serviceable and not much better. Hughes has been a disappointment this summer. He doesn't have the handle or footwork to create space for himself, although he can shoot if he's got plenty of space. Brantley and Oni are fringe players.

I agree. I was expecting a lot more from Brantley this summer.

I think the relationship that Donovan and Paschall have is going to give the latter more fire and hopefully a bigger focus on his body/conditioning - dude clearly has good athleticism for his size but he was playing with too much weight last year. Could become the stealth best move the Jazz made off season. Whiteside may actually want to revive his career and he has a young buck pushing him to be better. Gay is going to be right at home in the Jazz system and help with small ball line-ups that just didn't exist last year and he didn't suck at all in SA. Finally, I think Mitchell is going to go nuclear this year. Definitely in the hunt again for best record in the WCS and while subtle, a better and deeper playoff team. Plus, call me crazy but I'm pretty high on MaCio making the rotation.

I think Macio will play in pre-season and is likely to get a 2-way contract. I have a hard time seeing how he makes the rotation. Even if the Jazz let go of Oni, Jared Butler can play at both the 1 and the 2. I think the Jazz are also trying to groom Elijah Hughes as a Reggie Bullock-type guard on the wing.

Maybe it's because there aren't many very good teams or maybe I'm missing something, but that schedule looks very easy to me.

I'm expecting the Jazz to win 60+ games this season. There are a few B2Bs that are tough, like Chi/Mil, Den/LaL, GSW/Phx, NYK/Brk, etc., but it's not too bad otherwise.

I'm looking at the 14 games in December, and I'm thinking the Jazz could go 13-1. Maybe we'll drop another game or two and go 12-2 or 11-3. I could see the Jazz being something like 27-8 after the first 35 games.

The depth with Gay, Whiteside, Paschall, Butler should definitely help. Jazz are really deep this year.

Bleacher Report has us tied for 1st place with the Lakers at 53-29, I think that’s a bit light on wins, I have is at 55.

It depends on injuries and load management, but this is a 60-win team.

So Cavs are interested in Bojan? Nance Jr. plus fillers for Bojan would be nice but I don't think the organization would do him dirty like that

I don't think the Jazz are interested in Larry Nance Jr. now that they have Rudy Gay and Eric Paschall. I get that Nance is a 3D big wing or 4.

Bojan was also really good in the playoffs, shooting 46% from 3pt. He's our best gravity shooter and a bonafide starter.
