Yes! I’ve only watched the first episode so far, but loved it.

I thought the finale of White Lotus was just ok compared to the first five. Pretty predictable. It will be back next summer for season 2.

Only Ted Lasso can make me tear up watching a Christmas episode in August.

Finally saw Nobody with Bob Odenkirk.

Obviously, a stupid movie, but damn it was a fun watch.

I really like most things marvel does but it’s becoming so overwhelming.

My GF and I went to Free Guy yesterday, went in to it with zero expectations.. it was surprisingly good. I was pleasantly surprised.

Not terribly topical, but I just started Succession. Really enjoying it. Not sure how I missed it this long but I'm digging it. Brian Cox and Kieran Culkin are great.

I saw it with my fiancé last week. Meh? It kind of felt like a dumbed-down, happy-go-lucky combination of The Matrix and Truman Show set in a sanitized GTA world. Would have preferred if it had some darker elements to it.

Also, Taika Waititi was totally miscast and his performance was less than great, to say the least.

Yes. I saw Black Widow. It wasn’t terrible but I just remember sitting in the theatre waiting for it to end. They need to let the genre rest a little bit.

Like I watched all the movies up to end game in chronological order over a couple months after years of putting them on for distraction and I started to see what the hype was about.

Then they dropped a show and it was cool, then another and another, then two movies within a couple of months, another movie is coming out before the end of the year, an animated series just started. Trailers and leaks for the next 10 movies pop up everywhere. I know they have so much content to choose from and it’s a money maker but damn…

I'll never not love the superhero genre because I'm a comic honk and cherish it, but I definitely can see the fatigue others would get from it. A lot of the Marvel stuff was starting to get stale for me, including the shows.

I am excited for Shang-Chi and Eternals though. I've heard Shang-Chi doesn't feel like a Marvel film and for Eternals, I do love me some Chloe Zhao.

And of course, The Batman. I'll probably squeal like a little fanboy the entire time for that.

I went and saw The Night House and I’m going to urge you all to see it in the theater. That movie was absolutely built for the cinema experience.

Overall I have it in the 75-80 range. Rebecca Hall knocked it out of the park. I just wish the last 15 minutes went in a different direction, but I still left satisfied.

Now imagine the burnt out apocalyptic hellscape you'd feel like you'd be living in if you actively HATED comic book movies. I was over it after the Sam Raimi Spiderman, there is no end in sight. It's honestly made me start to hate the concept of movie franchises and especially anything with a "expanded universe", I dislike most movies I feel like where the original concept was "how do we make a **** ton of money in summer 2kwhatever?" and see any non-resolution in the plot as a play for sequel. It's not the only genre of movie like this, Disney owns a few other franchises they squeeze for all its worth too where pretty much all the same would apply. Summer blockbusters use to be something I looked forward to as a kid, now I can't be bothered if it not on streaming. Destroying whole movie industry.

Like do people watch those movies with any suspense? You do know superheros never lose unless its to set up a sequel right? Its so formulaic and predictable, them even existing honestly enrages me.

I still greatly enjoy the Marvel universe but the unintended Covid break they ended up taking was probably needed.

How was it predictable if one page ago you wrote you were going into the finale with no guess as to where it was heading?

I agree that episode 6 wasn’t as good as the first 5. It didn’t have as many laughs as it wound down. I wonder how they will do season 2. Is it all new guests at the resort? That is a big risk, because the hotel staff, minus Armand, don’t really carry the show. And most of the guests, who are the entertainment of the show, don’t have reason to come back to the resort, unless they pull some plot twist to get them back. So do you follow those characters back home?

And then you think of the opportunity cost of making them. What original content are we now missing out on because they sink everything into adapting both mainstream and obscure ass comics. We basically lost almost every genre of movie that excelled since the 80s and 90s.

I bemoan the lack of movies like I loved in the 90s and early 00s, but Damon probably makes the best point here. It isn't tentpole blockbusters, it's that there's no DVD revenue anymore.

How many of your favorite movies from the DVD era weren't even on your radar until they were out of the theater? It's almost all of mine.
