LOL, GSW got Klay and Draymond early on. I like Bog and Kong, but nobody on the Hawks now has shown they are on the same level as Klay or Draymond.

Getting all star talent in the late round is still very possible. Spurs got Maui, Parker and George Hill in the late round, and used Hill to get Kawhi.

Young and the Hawks are expected to finalize a full max rookie extension of five years and approximately $171 million, sources told The Athletic. The Hawks will still have one more year with Young on his rookie salary before his extension kicks in for the 2022-23 season. This decision to give Young the full max comes as no surprise and has been fully expected for months. He’s whom the Hawks are building around for what they hope to be the rest of his career.

Now comes the more challenging part of roster construction, which is surrounding your star player with enough talent to consistently contend...for Atlanta to be in the mix with teams like Milwaukee and Brooklyn for years to come, they will have to add more star talent to give themselves the best chance of beating those teams to get to the Finals.

The window to winning a title in the near future is open for the Hawks, especially with Young at the center of the organization. If the Hawks can find or develop a true second star alongside him, that’ll give the team even more of an opportunity to win. Even as the growing salary cap becomes an issue, the Hawks still have ways to get better because they can trade away some of the pricier veterans or consolidate some of the young talent into more proven players.

But a spectacular 2020-21 campaign has completely shifted public opinion on the former Oklahoma standout, as although his point-per-game average decreased by more than four full points, he improved so much as a decision-maker and table-setter that Young is a much more complete floor general than ever before.

Young undoubtedly proved how scarily effective he can be in the playoffs, too, leading the Hawks all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals in a campaign many thought they’d consider just qualifying for the postseason a success.

Young’s unstoppable floater game, his bombastic three-point prowess and ability to set up shooters and rim-runners was on full display in the 2020-21 playoffs, giving us a strong indication that Young is here to stay for the far foreseeable future as one of the league’s elite at the point-guard spot.
