Nagy's losing credibility by the minute here
Except it was stated before training camp started there is no qb competition.

It doesn't matter. If you have a player outplaying another and stick your neck out for the worse player, it's going to cause issues in that locker room before long.
there is zero report of players being upset that dalton has the starting job. he clearly gets along great with fields and it is widely assumed that he will be holding a clipboard sooner rather than later. if the team sucks and dalton has been mediocre come the bye week, maybe then we'll see locker room grumblings. but i don't think that that will be the scenario. as soon as the team heads south, fields will be out there. hell, trubisky was yanked for freaking foles after starting the season with fluke WINS. i assume that dalton's leash will be similarly short
and if you'd get past the sportcenter highlights you're realize that dalton is doing his job just fine. no wow factor, but also doesn't throw the ball 5 feet over everyone's head on a 4th and goal like fields did (which you know you would have crucified dalton for). i would guess that dalton's QBR, which is situational and factors in QB runs, is higher than that of fields so far this preseason. despite playing against marginally better defensive units and WITH similarly crappy offensive support
and hell, if we're going off a few quarters of preseason action, let's get that mitch trubisky for MVP train rolling
"We need to see him in the regular season" is one of the most tone deaf, stupid things I've heard from a head coach in a minute. What the hell do you need to see from Andy Dalton? He's not changing his stripes.
andy dalton was rated the #20 QB in the NFL PFF heading into his last season with the bengals. then his contract expired and he couldn't find a starting job. know why? because teams would rather roll the dice on a new young guy than have a below average starting QB on the wrong side of 30. then he did a credible job last season in a total dumpster fire in dallas
know what fields has NOT proved he can be...yet? a marginally below average starting nfl QB. we have limited evidence that he can get there rather quickly, but it is nowhere near a certainty. PFF, who generally likes fields as a prospect, slotted him as the #25 QB heading into this season under the assumption that he would be the starter
so yes, we do know what dalton is. and it won't make the bears contenders this season. but fields is highly unlikely to as well and there's the future to think of. for god's sake he nearly got decapitated yesterday. he's lucky if he didn't get concussed
it makes zero sense if you're so pissed about having nagy as a coach that you would be upset that he is starting dalton. if you're so convinced that that is a mistake, why not take joy in watching dalton assist in getting nagy fired? after all, that would clear the decks for the golden boy. better sooner than later, right?
