The Jays (rather handily) lead the majors in fWAR from 2021 free agents. Granted, we should be near the top of the field given our spending, but there's no question the ROI has been good, thanks in large part to Semien, even if some of the fringe moves haven't worked.

Not being part of the unofficial collusion crew paid off.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

SIMMONS SAYS: Much ado about 'All or Nothing' | Toronto Sun

TOUGH FOR JAYS TO PLAY CATCH UP

For as well as the Blue Jays have played since returning home to Toronto on July 30 — winning 10-of-15 in that time — the frustration of the wild-card race is apparent with six weeks remaining in the Major League season.

The Jays have played .667 baseball since coming home heading into Saturday night’s game in Seattle and have barely made a dent in the standings.

As they’ve gone 10-5, the New York Yankees have gone 9-4. As they’ve won two-thirds of their games, the Oakland A’s have won eight of 11 — that’s .727 baseball.

Only the Red Sox, getting the freebie home games against Baltimore this weekend, have faltered considerably in that time period, going 4-9 themselves. Toronto has picked up five games on the Red Sox in a very short period of time, but in the same schedule, the Tampa Bay Rays have gone 9-3 themselves and moved into first place in the American League East.

Make no mistake, this is a wild-card race for Toronto and nothing more. They don’t play Boston anymore. They can’t catch Tampa. They play Oakland three times at the Rogers Centre and have seven games remaining with the Yankees.

The season ends with three games at home against the Yankees. But with the Yanks finishing with series against Baltimore, Cleveland, Texas and Boston, there may not be enough time for the Jays to play catch up.

Petition · The Toronto Blue Jays Should Fire Charlie Montoyo · Change.org

Charlie Montoyo needs to be stopped for the sake of this team. He has exhibited staggering incompetence in most in-game managerial aspects on a regular basis: poorly constructed lineups, bullpen usage, tactics, and his instincts, i.e. when to pull his starting pitcher and rely on the bullpen, when to challenge a replay, etc., have been proven time and time again to be truly next-level awful.

Charlie is a nice guy and seems likeable on a personal level, but he has consistently demonstrated a firm belief in providing everybody on the roster with fair playing time opportunities, as if he were coaching Little League. Being nice and likeable doesn't win baseball games, unfortunately.

The bullpen is certainly far from a team strength, but it's clear that the decisions Charlie has made are compounding the poor results, and have subsequently resulted in too many losses.

During his three-year tenure with the team, Charlie has not shown much or any improvement in his ability to make smart, winning baseball decisions. The fact that the team is in a playoff race at this time is a credit to the skill and drive the players possess and should in no way be credited to Mr. Montoyo.

Exercising Charlie's team option for 2022 was a poor decision, but it's not too late to rectify this error in judgment by cutting bait now or at the conclusion of the 2021 season.

This team is brimming with talent and has a very bright future ahead of it, so let's not squander this golden opportunity to bring a World Series championship to the city of Toronto and the entire country of Canada, on a manager that, frankly, lacks the ability to put this team into the best positions to win games.

Mark, Ross, get it done, please.

Signed,

Everybody

Bobcat and John Shannon interviewed Ross Atkins the other day. A good 30+ minute in depth interview. Good listen if you have the time.

**edit: Most candid I've heard Atkins in an interview.

Any highlights that you took away from it?

-He sounded confident ownership would be willing to spend upwards of $200 million on payroll in the coming seasons. Have a feeling they'll overpay for one of Ray or Semien.

-Spoke of the current offensive slump and how a factor might be a similarity of right handed bats in the lineup. Makes sense they tried to sign Brantley in the off season. They'll more than likely tryy to acquire another middle of the order left handed bat this off season.

-And McCown gave him an out on the season with the excuse they're a young team and growing, this season wasn't the year blah blah blah...Atkins shot that down and made it very clear they wanted to make the playoffs this year. So if that's the case now Id imagine they're going to be very active in the offseason.

Those are just few takeaways.

ROSS ATKINS, General Manager of the Blue Joys Joins the show today to chat some baseball with Bob and John.

We speak to Ross about his teams recent performance, their lack of runs scored and the pitching problems plaguing their bullpen.

At this point, lifting caps with mandatory proof of vax is probably the way to go. Not just because it's feasible, but "get vaccinated and you can have nice things" has proven to be a fairly effective strategy in getting people vaccinated.

All I have ever meant is this.
The comparison is flawed IMO,because of the amount of games was 11 ,compared to the first half of the season.Thats it.

Whoever thought that you should colour-code the chyron with the team in red as blue and the team in blue as red should be shot into the sun.

Backtrack…backtrack…backtrack….

At least Vlade busted his slump based on your iron clad theory that it was because of his spot in the order……
