That’s a good point. It’s possible this deal was in CLE’s back pocket, and they were just waiting for Dame to commit to staying before they addressed their PF spot. I guess the Simmons Sweepstakes is now SAC, SA, and us remaining?

I am happy we weren’t the team that paid Markannen $67 for four years, since he duplicate our strengths and weaknesses. I am especially glad we didn’t give CHI a 1st for the privilege of paying him that. CHI made out great.

But I do regret not getting in on Nance. I am a little surprised he brought back a 1st (and not 2 2nds), not because he isn’t a good player, but because it sounded like CLE really wanted to get expirings to help deal with the financial fallout of signing Allen. I’m curious what they plan on doing now, since they actually added $5-6 mil next year. I think Love is unmovable.

If Nance was available, I really don't understand why we traded for Prince instead. Prince is at best an ok combo forward off the bench, Nance could have been the clear starting PF.

Probably an issue of price. Rubio buys you Prince not Nance. Cleveland has a few needs PG was one, but the also need a wing. Ricky is a bench player so is Prince. To get a starter level player like Nance you need a stater level wing.

I get that, but Portland did give up a first round pick to get him, so he wasn't free. Rosas is not giving up any future draft compensation for two reasons - one Simmons and two - offseasons stink for Wolves fans if they can't draft. Very few other ways of making offseason moves if draft is not a possibility.

Paul Reed looks like a future monster to me. I don't think Philly gives him up. I'd love to give him a shot. I don't think he's too slow for PF. He is very athletic.

I'd love to see him next to Kat and see.

One of the good things about us staying out of this is it improved POR, so Lillard asking out probably just isn't going to happen or happen in time for PHI.

Odd move by CLE with drafting Mobley. But it could set up a trade where Sexton, Mobley and draft capital are used.

Based on whats been reported that appears to be the case. Possibly some interest from Toronto and GS but I dont think either is serious with their pursuit. I think it was just a value play for a depreciated asset for both of them, if they could steal Simmons they would but otherwise they arent serious.

We still probably need a third team to add one piece to make a deal work. I think Philly would have interest in Beasley as part of the deal, and maybe slight interest in Beverley or Prince, but I think they would want another Beasley tier guy in addition which we cant offer. I still think Toronto is a potential trade partner to add a piece going to Philly, something along the lines of Reid/filler for Boucher.

I said a month ago I genuinely believe the wolves end up with Simmons, and that Rosas is 100% focused on him. I have yet to see anything that would change my mind on that. The moves (and lack of moves) we have made tell me we are in a holding pattern, and I dont think the constant reports of us still being in contact about Simmons is just smoke. Before I said mid September, now its looking like it might be closer to late September when we see some movement.

Not sure why Cleveland wants to pay Markkanen 16+ mil a year, and give up Nance to have the privilege, but they did. I wonder what they plan to do with Love.

They arent trading Mobley. They needed a floor spacer and offensive piece to pair with Allen/Mobley.

Very happy the Wolves didn't get Nance. Giving up a first round pick, even protected, for him would have been frustrating.

This is slightly off topic as it isn’t a trade idea, but it is relevant, if Kevin Love gets bought out, do we want him and does he come here? The downside for him would be that we might not be a contender this year and another team that is might want him. The upside is that he could get starter minutes (a chance to prove it for his next contract,) and with Ant, Dlo, MCD, and KAT beside him we might competitive enough. Of course this assumes a minimum deal or at most some of the MLE.

Zero chance that Kevin Love comes to Minnesota, he would choose a destination where winning a Championship was a serious possibility.

Bringing back Love smells me like bringing back Rubio. No, thanks.

Me too. A perfect fit on this roster. Rosas is just not moving draft picks.

Also, a lottery-protected Blazers pick has value. To many front offices, a Wolves lottery protected first has no value because there's a chance it may be available. The Wolves would need to make it at least top 8 protected for front offices to believe it could be transferred.

Shoot? Yes
Rebound? Yes
Pass? Yes
Defense? Average on a good day
Cost? Spendy

Definitely a strong role player on a playoff team
Flip response to Love wanting out, "He has no reason to be upset, you're either a part of the problem or a part of the solution"

I would have to double check, but that pick is lotto protected through 2028 I believe. Because it is unclear when it will convey, unless they acquire another pick in one of those years, this essentially means they cannot trade another first rounder due to the Stepian rule. That is a problem for Rosas who clearly wants to make a major deal this year.

You have your right to be wrong. He's far superior to 9 out of 10 players you could get with a non lottery pick.

I hope that Simmons get traded in SAC, and whole drama will end. Rosas gets Boucher for Okogie, Layman and 2nd round pick. We resign Vando and sign Bolmaro.

KAT/Reid/Boucher + Knight
Boucher/Vando/MCD
MCD/Prince/Edwards
Edwards/Beasley/Nowell
DLo/Beverly/Bolmaro + Wright

I am in same boat. Olshey is a terrible GM and this move reeks of desperation for a GM whose days are numbered. Glad Rosas stayed true to his long term vision and didn’t make a panic deal like this one.
