Rosas better get it done. Maybe gets kings involved in trading hield and Patrick Beverly from us to Philly. Beasley and Layman going to Sac. And we get Simmons. Or 3 way with ind Brogdon and multiple 1sts going to Philly. And Beasley and Layman to Ind. And Simmons to Min.

Dj Augustine - affordable, solid starting PG 38% career 3pt

Eric Gordon - smart basketball player, excellent role player, career 37% 3pt shooter

Michael Beasley - affordable, excellent offensive player, Career 39% 3pt shooter.

Throw in a couple of firsts...

That was the rationale. Not replacing Simmons, but rounding out their backcourt with shooters and a PG.

I think this is a horribly one-sided take, that doesn’t look at the whole picture. Simmons is 6’ 10” (I guess that’s a plus - shorter than Naz Reid), a 3 time all star (all though some local and national experts would say he’s undeserving), and he is not the best defender in the NBA (Gobert, Giannis, and many others). You are also neglecting

1. Simmons isn’t a threat from the three point range
2. Simmons crumbled under pressure - mentally weak?
3. Simmons has failed to show he can improve his game.
4. Simmons may be targeted with “Hack-a-Ben”
5. Simmons is very hard to build around
6. Simmons is paid max money
7. Simmons doesn’t want to be on PHI

I agree with you that PGI would turn down this deal, but I don’t think you are placing weight on both the positives (I’d include passing as well) and negatives in determining his trade value. That’s a shame, because I am sure that real GM’s are considering all these things.

Simmons is actually taller than Naz

I'm wondering if the holdup on Vanderbilt is because he might be used in a S&T in any Simmons deal

I think Hou would be interested in a 3 way to send Eric Gordon to Philly if we give them Beasley. Gordon is slightly better. But Beasley is younger. And Gordon is a win now player for Phil. Gordon and Beverley and couple 1st will entice Philly.

I will never understand why some people use All Star selections as an accolade or argument in favour of a player's abilities. Kim Kardashian at our 15th roster spot would make the All Star team.

Something occurred to me and I figured I would ask it here to anyone in favor of a Simmons trade. Are the Wolves equal to or better than the 76ers without Simmons? I ask because they couldn’t win a title with Simmons, and if we are not as good or better how can we? Is the goal simply to be a playoff team, or is it to win titles? The 76ers want to move on from Simmons because after years of coaching and development they are realized Simmons is a guy who cannot help them win championships. I don’t see him fitting better here.

Gordon is not better nor does his contract offer more value. And then there is the age thing, the injury thing, half the time it looks like Gordon can't get up the court, he is aging and I am surprised he can even contribute at this point as he is a shadow of himself and his IU days...but he does.

To be fair, the reserves are selected by coach voting, not the fans. I don’t know about prior years, but last year, the NBA coaches definitely voted Simmons into the game. Not sure they would have done that for Kim, but it’s possible.

Haha...it is a bit of a mess without listing picks.

First Phili - win now mode. They need shooters and a PG. This completely checks the box for them and fits around Embiid timeline. Gordon and Beasley can light it up from outside and Augustine is a legit starting PG (No idea if Maxey is that).

Houston is getting all of that - which is essentially two great prospects and two expirings - because they are giving up some good players and pieces. Maxey and McDaniels (who I wouldn't trade unless getting a star back) paired with Tate and Green give them a fun young group.

Minnesota is getting two starting forwards. I listed Simmons as a 3, because to be honest he can play and guard 1-5, off setting him with Wood and his shooting softens the loss of Beas and McDaniels.

Ultimately it's just another take on potential ways to round out our roster and try to build a contending team

Imagine if these nobodies turn up at the Sixers to meet Joel as Ben’s replacements

lol

End of bench players

You actually consider Eric Gordon, Beasley and Augustine as nobodies? That would be an lol. And like I said, there would be pick compensation as well.

In the context of a Ben Simmons trade, yeah, that package is pretty brutal, if I am being honest. The pick compensation would have to be pretty ludicrous to justify that kind of talent gap.

They came within a bounce of winning a title with him.

Because he's the scapegoat for losing against Atlanta this year. It's stupid.

Is it perfect? No, but usually all stars are very good players. So I have zero problem with using it.

Any deal will involve another team(s) who can provide something of interest to the Sixers in return for your assets

That’s not meant as as insult, it’s just reality

It’s like the Kings offering Hield, Bagley, etc

The salaries match but it doesn’t do anything for the Sixers

Do you believe that PHI will start the season with a disgruntled Simmons, if this “interesting” trade offer doesn’t appear?

I think we have reached the point in time where you take whatever you can get, and hope to save a little face. The disruption, where everyday, every reporter is asking every player about Simmons seems very damaging to a contender.

Yep

They will win plenty of games on raw talent alone and it’s not as if this is the first time that Ben & Joel haven’t been best buddies

NBA is a business and the Sixers have 2 assets

**** up the Simmons trade and the window is not only slammed shut but you risk pissing off Joel

Now he’s a diva & I can easily see him “load managing” before shutting it down

Morey might as well catch the first plane out of town if that happens as there won’t be any Simmons to cop the flak this time

We thought so too. Then General Soreness happened. We'll see. I'm not sure Ben has it in him to be as much of a diva as Jimmy, but that doesn't mean the team will let it get to that point.

1. You cannot win championships unless you are a playoff team. We need to walk before we run.

2. The Timberwolves couldn't win a title with Kevin Garnett. The Sonics couldn't win a title with Ray Allen. The Celtics couldn't win a title with Paul Pierce. If none of them could win a title on their respective teams, why did Boston try to bring them together if the goal was to win a title?

1. That is half the story. We were a perennial 7 or 8 seed with KG and didn’t sniff a title. Plenty of teams are built for a first or second round elimination. Contention in the era of super teams is different.

2. Your point is good except it ignores mine. My point was that if Philly is as good or better than the Wolves without Simmons and he didn’t make the difference, why does Simmons make the difference here?

Alright. I am putting my dream scenario out there.

Wolves: Beverley, Beasely, Bolmaro, 2022 First Round Pick, 2022 Second Round Pick (Wizards)

for

76ers: Simmons

We would likely have to trade one of Okogie or Layman to free up space to sign vet minimums to fill out the roster.

We already replaced Beasely's shooting with the acquisition of Prince. Beverley and Bolmaro never played a minute in a Wolves jersey. We give up our 2022 First Round Pick plus the Wizards' Second Round pick we own for Simmons.

Then we trade Okogie to a third team for a future Second Round pick so that we can free up some space to sign some minimum guys like Baynes, Coffey and Cook to round out the roster:

PG: D'Lo, McLaughlin
SG: Edwards, Nowell, Coffey
SF: McDaniels, Prince, Layman
PF: Simmons, Vanderbilt, Cook
C: Towns, Naz Reid, Baynes

Because teams are a collection of players, and not all players compliment each other equally when it comes to winning.

Why is Philly said to be looking for a perimeter scoring threat and shot creator for Simmons? Because thats where their team is most lacking. Skills suffer from diminishing returns when there is an overlap, similar to the concept of "theres only one basketball" when talking about a team full of guys who need the ball in their hands. The sixers as a whole would be better off sacrificing some defense and intangibles to address their weaknesses and balance out their team.

The wolves have very different strengths and weaknesses and Simmons positives are far more needed and his weaknesses are compensated for here.

Well said.

Will trading for him result in a title? It might not. Is that the ultimate goal? It is. Should the possibility of failing to win a title stop us from acquiring him in an attempt to improve the roster? No.
