I hate to keep harping on this and I feel like a shill for Rich Paul, but the reporting on this is just so bad and Fischer needs to be called out. The dude made a bit of a name for himself during free agency. This brand of "journalism" is all sorts of awful though and should hurt his reputation imo. Another in a line of people rushing to dump on Paul without actually stopping to think about what they're putting out there, which is insane considering there's plenty of legit stuff to use and these things are all easily accessible with a quick Google search.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2947770-how-nerlens-noel-rich-paul-lawsuit-could-change-nba-agent-landscapeGenerally some meh writing that doesn't offer much and sprinkles in some quotes that mean nothing but have already gotten run (e.g. that Houston was interested in Noel, but a source said it "never got very far").
The big issue is this part though:
Maybe the only impact here is a little dent in Paul's armor. Noel was neither the first nor last client Klutch advised to turn down a richer offer than one that would later come. Not all press is good press when it comes to securing future players.
Paul's then-client, Shabazz Muhammad, declined a four-year, $40 million offer from the Wolves, which never materialized again. He urged Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to turn down Detroit's five-year, $80 million extension. But Eric Bledsoe and Tristan Thompson each secured massive contracts after their loud holdouts.
Paul was not Shabazz's agent when he declined that deal. His agent I believe was Pelinka. Paul was hired in April 2017 to handle his free agency the summer following the rejection of the extension in October of 2016.
Further, the first iteration of this article had the following line (you can see it posted on Reddit):
Marcus Morris fired Paul after they declined a three-year, $41 million offer from the Clippers in free agency.
This line has been removed, likely because it assigns blame to Paul for something Morris is on record saying was not Paul's fault at all.
Absolute junk writing by Fischer.
