Re: Nuggets 2021 Off Season
Cornelie might be our other 2way contract actually. I found a couple french articles stating that may be the case and that's why he hasn't signed overseas yet. I also heard Adam Mares mention something about the Nuggets exposing a white board on draft night that showed a depth chart that had two "JG"s on it (Greens) and PC in the center slot. That might be a bit of a stretch, but he really improved last year and got some more experience on the silver metal French Olympic team.

bravor wrote:lol sorry. i am french, it's just that we had some rumor here about him being on the nba radar (without much details) and still being monitored by Denver's staff. I just thought you had couple open roster spot (at least with two ways) to confirm he could have his chance next season.
Nothing to do with Charlotte though (my bad for messing up myt first post here). Even if Petr is still only 26, Hornet's core is more in the 20/22 area i think. And his profile is not what Hornets could use. I would say a guy like Bassey would make more sense, they have already a lot of jump shooting bigs, but not really any who can post up efficiently.
Otoh, he could be a nice get for Atlanta (especially considering Gallinari's age, even if they dont have the same profile).
ps : thanks for the quick feeback btw
Thanks for a nice mini-thread. I've always like Cornelie as a backup center - or at least I like him based on potential. As Skywalker said, our coach isn't a big fan of centers whereas I am a an old man that likes the traditional "starting center", "backup center with experience", "third string young center with potential".
Center and point guard are the two slots that are hardest to fill if there is an injury to the starter. But the game has changed so much, that Malone's approach seems to work well - especially since Jokic's style of play is less prone to injuries than most NBA players.
It would make sense to add Cornelie to our roster as our only actual backup center - that is not likely to play much.
But that's just my opinion and I've been wrong before.

Did Lance Stephens ever sign, could be a good camp add IMO.

Re: Nuggets 2021 Off Season
According to Mike Singer, an extension to Aaron Gordon could be closed this week.
Assuming the maximum we can offer him is 88Mx4, I think this contract has great value.
If you get 5 Next years of Murray, MPJ, Gordon and Jokic....I find quite unlikely Denver do not get a ring

Re: Nuggets 2021 Off Season
I can definitely deal with a Gordon extension in the 3 year, $20M range. I would like to see him work on his 3 point shot, but he was a great fit when the team was healthy and I imagine him hitting the open market could be a bidding war we would be better off taking a chance on now. He is only 25 still, fits with the core and at worst, could be easily traded.

Re: Nuggets 2021 Off Season
Would it be worth it for us to get in on Simmons? Would Gordon, Morris and Bol and a pick or two for Simmons and Thybulle work? I'm not the huge return the Sixers probably want, but they get players that can contribute now and keep the team near the top of the conference.
I'm not sold the Nugs would have any interest, but Simmons seems like a better version of Gordon who could fit the same way as Gordon did with Murray, Barton, MPJ and Jokic but who was better playmaking skills.
Value is going to be the question, but Philly could be similar or a better team after this deal IMO. Denver takes on a bit of salary and luxury tax, but the results might be worth it.

That's exactly the deal I've been pitching, and that's exactly the response I've gotten from Philly fans on this site. And I'm not sure Denver would be interested - at least until they see how Porter starts the season.

Philly is not going to get what they want. Their GM has made a mess of things and Simmons may pull a Harden maneuver, further driving down his trade value. There is every reason to believe Murray will return to his previous form and because he has been an improving player since drafted, he is worth his contract. On the other hand, Simmons due to offense limitations is not.
You could see a change in Denver's attitude about giving up Murray if there were some health concerns following his rehab.
Once Gordon is extended, Denver's starting five is probably set in stone for the season and that will include a place marker for Murray at the beginning.
Canned in Denver.

Man, oh, man, looks like we will go well over the tax, expected contract for MPJ is 4/100 with it being able to become max if he does something, they are still working on that "something" part of it according to rummors. And if you add to that Gordon 4/80-88, we will break tax with our starters only looks like

Yeesh. Not sure that's worth it. At the risk of sounding naive, how rich do these guys need to be?

As a comparison, Utah is well over the tax threshold this season. I think Denver is likely to keep its core together for a title run and at least match the Jazz, who are doing the same thing. If you look back over the years, Utah and Denver are pretty well equally matched on salary cap until this season.
If you are going to play with the contenders, you have to pay the price. For Denver that starts next season while Utah is subject to a repeater tax. If you want to look at a tax bill, check out the Nets and Warriors.
Canned in Denver.

Totally agree - but then I look at it from the other side of the table and the owners surely do make ridiculous money.
Either way, I'll never get anything from either side of that table. So let them have all that ridiculous sums of money that most of us can't relate to.

And that's where I end up, too. There's so much money in the game that the players, as the featured attraction, certainly deserve their fair share. I guess I'm just griping about the relative value our society places on different functions. More of that money should be going to teachers, farmworkers, homicide detectives... Maybe I'm turning into a grouchy socialist.
But I'm still a lifelong Nuggets homer and I want them to kick butt. Here's hoping they can improve with Porter, Jr. learning defensive positioning, Gordon working on his shot, Murray pacing his recovery well and maturing toward consistency, and someone else stepping up as a tolerably legit starting guard. Also, who is the backup center?

Re: Nuggets 2021 Off Season
News out of Nuggets land that negotiations with both AG and MPJ are going well, seems encouraging we can get our front court players under contract for our championship runs
