The thing everyone's missing in this case is that there was a young woman in the house who was afraid that Jaxson Hayes was starting to get violent and didn't feel safe. Her friend called the cops to go check it out and to get Hayes away from her. The reason that the cops were there in the first place was to protect this girl from Hayes. Jaxson Hayes didn't take long at all to prove that the girl had very good reason to be afraid of him.

Yes it was an ugly situation but the cops may have very well saved the girl from getting seriously hurt. They did the right thing in this case.

Title horribly misleading considering the second he said that they immediately acknowledged and got off of him. Cops deserve a ton of heat for all the horrific incidents where they have been abusive to the point of murder of black men, but this story ain't it. Do better.

Still felt like the police escalated it by grabbing him. More communication was needed before that point. They should have clearly said get away from the house or we will grab you prior to doing it and have him 10 seconds to comply.

My ex went crazy (an ICU nurse on meds that worked in the COVID unit). Someone called the cops on her. I’m biased. People went nuts during the pandemic. The cops aren’t usually the best answer in those scenarios and just escalate.

Glad no one got killed. He shouldn’t have shoved the cops. But the cops seemed to grab him quicker and with less communication than I would have liked to see. Just watched the news clip tho. Don’t have all the info. When someone says they can breath get off them. And just get in front of the door

Not only did he get off of him, but it shows why he was on him to begin with. Cop moves and he immediately begins to active resist again. :banghead:

The system is able to be abused severely with no consequences. Say I don't like you, and every week I call the police from a burner (or even easier, have one of my homies from overseas do it through an online service) saying I heard a cry for help from your house (some variation of it). You gonna be cool with the cops coming in the middle of the night asking to search your place?

It's a delicate balance. I'm still over here wondering how the girlfriend was able to get away with texting her friend, but not calling 911 (and keeping silent - they send the cops in that case). Or even better, texting 911 instead of her friend. What if the friend misunderstood the situation?

People always decide to bring up edge cases when looking at something in order to further there point. It's dumb to create an example where fake calls are made every week. Do you honestly believe officers are going to search inside a house four times in a month due to fake domestic calls? What does that even have it do with this story? If some anonymous call comes though repeatedly I would assume police would have a record of it and not treat it with the same seriousness that the first one got.

If officers are acting in good faith then there is no consequences for a warrantless search, its that simple.

If someone says they heard someone screaming out for help in a house it would be negligence of a cop to arrive, hear nothing, knock the door, shrug and then walk away...

We in developed society have decided that the possibility of preserving life is given extreme leeway. No one wants to be intruded on, but we have decided that for the greater good it is fine.

Also, most people have no idea that you can text 9-1-1. This is not common knowledge in my opinion.

I make squat an hour slinging boxes at some factory. don't blow this for yourself.

I think he feared domestic violence charges which the NBA seems to come down harder on now vs drugs.....

His girlfriend who was also allegedly abused by Hayes tried to shut him up when he threatened the police officers and used n-word. Fools like Hayes often have good friends and girlfriends.

He did nothing for the Policemen to be so violent to him. What did he get tased for? There were already 2 Policemen on his back lol. Also not explaining anything to him, and just grabbing his arm and the obligatory "stop resisting" excuse is ridiculous. I dont even care, what Jaxon Hayes supposedly did, but the policemen are provoking the escalation with their behaviour towards him

How do you arrest an uncooperative suspect/criminal when all de-escalation attempts failed?
