Re: Ben Simmons Thread (READ FIRST POST)
Ideally, Dame, Beal and whoever else sixers think they can trade for look to stay and remain patient with their teams, meanwhile Simmons refuses to go to training camp and his value tanks. Then, he could be available for cheap with very few teams looking to take him on. That would be the ideal scenario.
I think a trade centred around Dlo makes the most sense for us, no? I know Dlo is KAT's friend, but that can't be the only reason to take him off the table in negotiations. Otherwise we are capped out or have no bench whatsoever.

When we have Simmons, KAT, D Lo, and Ant not much bench or cap space will be needed.

Yup. If you have a contender, free agents will come. Plus, Rosas has shown he can find some diamonds in the rough (see Naz Reid, Vando as a filler in the Malik/Juancho deal)

If we do end up with Simmons, KAT, Dlo and Ant how many wins would we get next year? 45?

I have evidence the other way
1. KAT has never said he wants out of Minnesota. In fact, he goes on and on about how much he likes the team.
2. When he signed his max deal, he could have had any contract he wanted. He chose to have his fifth year guaranteed, not a player option like the majority do.
3. Even in his worst times here, the Jimmy event, he was always a team player and said nothing bad about Jimmy or Thibs.
4. We brought in his best buddy DLo.
5. He likes Finch, and Finch empowers him to show off his skills.
6. He has been nothing but complimentary and excited about Anthony Edward’s growth.
Many teams on the east and west coast have the ear of the media, and they are always sprouting stories about how other team’s best players are going to want out. These stories drive clicks and help them sell advertising. The truth is, last year we saw more stars than ever sign extensions to stay with their teams. Players like Bradley Beal love their team, even if they have been supposedly about to “ask to be traded” for three seasons now.
I do not think MIN needs to make the playoffs this season or KAT will demand a trade. I only think we need to be trending that way for future playoffs, and I expect we will, with Ant, Jaden and all our young team expected to be better this season. And even if we didn’t, I am not sure KAT will ask out. I just heard a national podcaster say how our players seem to always want to stay in Minnesota.
I’d think of it another way. If we can’t make the playoffs with Kat as the centerpiece in two seasons then maybe we should trade him regardless. Who cares if he wants out. Why build around a guy that hasn’t shown he can be a winner over 7 seasons in the league?
You could be right too, but either way it removes the argument I’ve heard for 3 years: “Do my bad, win-now trade or KAT is gone!”
I'm with you. That's precisely why I wouldn't trade a 1st for Nance. I just think if we go in we need to move the needle more than that. I think Simmons is the one opportunity out there that can achieve that. Not sure what next year will provide, but I think the Wolves ability to improve is most likely going to have to come through the trade market for the foreseeable future. I think the Wolves cap situation with D-Lo, Towns, Edwards, and Beasley isn't going to lend itself to a large free agent acquisition. (a la Atlanta with Bogdonovich) I also think the Wolves will likely be drafting toward the end of the lottery and those picks aren't likely to yield difference makers that will help us in the short term.

PHX has been a team outside the playoffs for several years. They made decent, but not jaw-dropping, picks in the draft with their lottery picks, let them develop, and didn’t trade the youth or picks away. The Chris Paul acquisition was questionable salary and a 2022 protected 1st and added a solid Jay Crowder.
Atlanta was a similar success story. In fact, they didn’t have any big money locked up elsewhere, with all their key players on rookie scale, and it allowed them to just throw money at Bogdanovic and Gallinari.
Both of these teams made huge gambles that paid off at the time when their young stars were emerging.
I would bet that when Phx acquired Chis Paul there were more detractors among Suns fans than there are Simmons detractors among Wolves fans.
I think the same thing could be said about the Capela acquisition for the Hawks.
Both acquisitions ended up being huge difference makers for those teams, and yet at the time they were made they were incredibly questionable because both Paul and Capela had lost their shine.

And with that, this doesn't go into the season. Maybe into training camp, but it will be resolved by the time games start to count.

Maxey might be an attractive piece to that 3rd team that will get the "asset" package.

The tweet was followed up with this too:
If there is a world where Simmons+Maxey are coming to Minny that would be absolutely amazing though.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Well adding Maxey could entice MN to be more forthcoming with picks/swaps or to part with DLo or in adding Bol.

I don't think Maxey will be coming here in any Ben deal, but he would add to an asset package that would be routed to a 3rd team

I’ll need to see it first before I think we’ll draw free agents even if we are a contender, and that’s overlooking the issue of how we’d pay them. I look at Milwaukee, and half their roster was unplayable.
I agree with you thought on Rosas’ ability to find those diamonds in the rough. Best of all, those players are CHEAP, which would be something we’d desperately need if we went the three-max-deal route.

I can’t see Philly trading Maxey. I’m not sure we’re willing to give enough to get Simmons, how are we going to pry Simmons and Maxey (who the Philly fans love)? I also think that if Maxey is happy in Philly, he shouldn’t allow his agent to use him as a pawn. That said, no idea if he’s happy there.
Ant is also represented by Klutch. Him and Maxey worked out together pre-draft.

And it didn't matter for Milwaukee, because they assembled star power at the top.
Especially when your star power is flexible, the need for better depth lessens because the stars pick up the load. Russell can play on ball or off-ball, Edwards can play on ball or off ball, Simmons can play literally anywhere 1 through 4, Towns can play next to a small or next to a big.

45 would be amazing, but I'll settle for 50 and a playoff round win.

Re: Ben Simmons Thread (READ FIRST POST)
I would ship DLo and a bunch of 1st's for Simmons. DLo is our luxury offense who compromises the defense, and I'd love to keep Beasley and McDaniels, because I feel like Simmons/Beasley/Ant/McDaniels/KAT lineup is insane and nicely balanced offensively and defensively. I could literally see us with the home court advantage and reaching the 2nd round with a lineup like this.

Yeah, I think there's not a huge amount of need for Dlo with all the scoring we should have. KAT will get about 25 a game, Ant will be around that as well hopefully. Beasley will give you another 15-18, Ben 15-18 as well. That's close to 80 points from 4 players....just need good roleplayers around them.

Kat and Ben both wilt in the playoffs..
