Re: The Dangers Of Reunions
I'd rather sign Motley, or a young big than DJ, even to the min and Zu absolutely has higher value and impact that DJ.
Clips need to keep that 15th spot open (sorry Amir) for an emergency big since Serge is coming off a season ending injury and isn't quite as young as he was, even with his voodoo room.

DJ wasn't playable for Nets in playoffs just a few months ago, and he was healthy. We shouldn't sign him.
Same reason I laugh at Lakers for signing Rondo. He was unplayable in playoffs. All he can do is take Dudley's spot and dance on the bench for them. lol.
Fred Roggin calls it "The Name Game." I call it The NBA Walking Dead. The Nets might get away with it and now the Lakers are all-in with Rondo, who was also unplayable in the playoffs.
We are on the cusp with
Kawhi [30 last June]
PG [31 last May]
Reggie [31 last April]
still under 32. Lou [35] had some good months and some not so good; Serge [31] broke down. Bev will probably follow fellow little guy into early retirement.
Batum turns 33 in December. Marcus turns 32 in September. Our "youth," fan favorites Zubac [24 last March] and T-Mann [25 in October] have yet to establish themselves as genuine 25+ mpg guys. The rest are a crapshoot. We still don't really have anyone under 30 who can seriously ball.

DJ was perhaps Doc's greatest achievement, conning a dogass 2nd-round journeyman into believing he was part of a Big Three with HOFer Chris Paul and All-Star Blake Griffin. DJ actually earned his inflated salary a couple of those years under Doc, quarterbacking the defense, winning the rebounding title twice, and even making the All-Star team---things our beloved Zu sadly will never sniff.

I don't see what the point would be of bringing back DJ. He was already washed up (with a bad attitude, too) when he left the Clippers in 2018. At that point, the only thing he was even doing on the court anymore was stat-padding his rebounds. Now he's on the wrong side of 30 and barely even gets playing time. I genuinely don't think DJ is an upgrade over Cousins. I'd rather sign Hartenstein with that roster spot.

Re: The Dangers Of Reunions
I dunno. You look at his productivity, and DJ is … pretty much the same. The thing isn’t that he has lost effectiveness, it’s that the situations where he’s most effective are so much fewer. He’s an interior C that doesn’t really guard out to the perimeter against small ball Cs. A player like that—like Zu, in other words—is very effective against about a third of the league’s Cs, moderately effective against a third of the league’s Cs, and not useful against the final third. If we didn’t have Zu, we’d get good play out of DJ; he’d be fine to have as a 14th/15th man even with DJ. But I don’t think he wants that, and I don’t think he wants the minimum pay we’d (have to) offer him. He’s probably not the player we need; he’d still be a good pickup for anyone at the vet’s minimum. He still has usable skills.

I always felt that Jordan's lone All-Star visit in 2017 was out of pity, knowing that it turned out to be the last year of the Paul-Griffin duo. Neither Paul nor Griffin made the All-Star Game, and Doc was eager to create a True Big 3. He finally got it, but it was too late and all for naught.
Keep in mind, he was trying to do the same thing with Kendrick Perkins while on Celtics: coach him up to being an All-Star candidate, but fans and coaches only viewed him as a role starter, a glue guy. DeAndre Jordan is basically a Perkins "What If...", with Doc's desired result.

Pretty good take by Colin McGowan:

I do think people make a little too much of DJs age and "decline"--the bigger issue is that Cs like him just aren't playable cornerstones anymore. Zu is kinda like DJ; he's still only a 22-25 mpg player. DJ can still defend big men like him and rebound like nobody's business and do some rim protecting. The value of *all* players like that--not just DJ--is at an all-time low.

No reason to sign DJ if he is bought out but once again it brings Zu's trade value @ $7M into serious question when trad 5s like Drummond and DJ will command only the minimum on the open market.
What would Drummond command if he wasn't bought out from a large contract and making money from a previous team? What would DJ command if he was 24 years old vs 33 years old?
Not really comparing like vs like here, lol

UPDATE
As a result of this, I am renaming this thread to the "The Danger Of Reunions: The DeAndre Jordan Sweepstakes."
This is now an official tracker for Jordan's next landing spot. Lakers are listed as no. 1. No official mention of Clippers, yet I have a feeling their names will be linked together in a tweet or article very soon.

How old is he? Is he old enough to play on the Lakers?

Jarrett Allen just got a major deal to be that exact player. DJ is supremely lazy on defense on the tail end of his career and showed signs of this his last year or so in LA. Idk what happen to DJ but he rarely plays motivated anymore and spends much more time ball watching.

For the sake of argument we have given Zu the nod over the other two. The only question being raised here is whether other teams would consider him $5M/yr better.

Injuries hit and guys were playing worse in the conference finals. It was clear Morris and Batum had hit a bit of a wall and Phoenix was more of a physical matchup that we needed size. Mann would of played more regardless from the minutes he earned against Utah and Zu was needed for Ayton and we saw what happened in the non Zu minutes.
They are role players they are suppose to standby and wait until needed.

Well, yeah. Zu had a great matchup in Ayton but was dreadful vs the Jazz [13 mpg, 5.2 and 3.2] and Mavs [14 mpg, 3.6 and 5.1].
I'm hopeful Mann continues to grow but aside from that one 39-point outburst, he never scored more than 13 in any game and in those 27 mpg vs the Suns managed only 8-3-1.
