Re: Spurs-Blazers-76ers-Mavs
I'm never a fan of giving up the best player and 2 picks for role players. I'm not saying if you start piecing it out that it might not be fair value, but it caps the team's ceiling as it lowers the talent level and makes it very difficult to ever truly add a star to Luka with a total inability to trade picks.
Instead of making Dallas significantly better it just devalues some of their existing talent. There simply aren't enough minutes to get value out of all of White/Brunson/THJ/DFS/Bullock/RoCo/Thad. It's great to have that level of depth for the RS, but when Dallas puts their best 5 out there, they can't compete with the best teams and have no ability to get the top end talent upgrade.
This has Dallas putting a priority on spots 8-10 and ignoring their giant hole current at spots 2-3. No interest in this at all. Even if the value is there on paper.

Not even close close for Portland. Mediocre players and mediocre draft picks doesn't get you an all NBA player player like Dame

I think Indy would have to give a bit more but it could be a starting piece.
Levert plus brogdon probably makes it’s happen. Both injury prone. At least one of them made be available for playoff run
But Simmons is a horrible fit with Sabonis.
Teams are willing to obtain Simmons if they don’t have to really give up any real assets they do without. That’s why the original brogdon plus pick was shot down.
It doesn’t hurt Indiana to give up brogdon since they are replacing his pg skill with Simmons pg skill.
Not many teams are built to take him on and make the most of his strengths. If a team could actually field a roster of elite 3&D players 2-5 then they could bring him in and maximise his talents. But most rosters dont have the pieces to make it happen immediately. Likely Philly will get an ok package for him without landing the dream package and the team that gets Simmons will need to restructure the roster a bit to make it work.
Boston no longer have the assets to make a play for him at all unfortunately, but a line up of Simmons, Nesmith, Brown, Tatum and Horford can provide all the spacing Simmons needs. Unfortunately, Smart, fillers and crappy picks wont go close to getting it done

They wouldnt be unprotected. I just didnt want to get too deep into details. Honestly, I think a Top-8 Protected and a Lotto Protected is more in line.
But, ya, historically you only get a UPT FRP for a true star. I think Murray is an elite level role player, a guy that is about as great a 4th option as one could hope for. But he isnt unprotected 1st round pick(s) good.

KAT for Simmons straight up.
Philly adds talent and goes twin towers plus KAT likes to play from outside anyways.
Minnesota enters a new era building around Edwards and Simmons making defense a priority. They can also trade DLO later.

Re: Ben Simmons Containment Thread Take 3
Portland just traded a FRP for a high caliber win-now role player and a week later people still think Dame is asking out? People really dont think that any behind-closed-doors trade demand would have stopped the Blazers from moving a FRP for LNJ? Or has he asked out since the LNJ trade? Allowing PDX to burn a pick for nothing? Does that sound like Dame? I feel like I am taking crazy pills.
Dame isnt some spoiled child who will suddenly whine his way out of town this close to the season, or during the season. If he was going to demand a trade it would have been after the 1st round exit or after the Olympics. Its past that point with Dame, and I really dont see how anyone thinks otherwise.
So, while I know this is a T&T board, there are real options and possibilities with this ongoing Ben Simmons saga. But wasting your time posting ideas that involved Damian Lillard is even sillier than the normal time wasting that this board is all about. (And I waste plenty

This is what gives me a good laugh coming here and why I mostly stay out of this thread even though I am a Sac fan.
Portland has made obvious moves to please Dame. He’s not going anywhere this year for sure and likely not after either.
Indiana just doesn’t make a lot of sense because you have guys that either 1) don’t fit or 2) are injured all the time and that’s not a gamble Philly can afford whether the talent matches or not.
The Spurs are not known for making big moves that gut the roster and it’s not their style to chase a star and give up picks.
Masai has made very clear that he is not moving any of his core three (FVV/OG/Siakam) and there’s not a lot else on that roster to attract Philly. As well this years high draft picks was a fluke, and their picks do not normally hold that much value.
Other teams are either set or risk too much to structure the kind of package that Morey is seeking so aren’t a factor.
It boils down to this. The longer they wait, the more pressure comes and the cheaper the price gets.

I gave a good future pick from Portland but might need another. The value of those picks IMO is that if Portland does want to rebuild and move on from Dame then they will want their picks back.

This is the exact reason why I don't see Minny making this happen. Why would Philly trade Simmons for a bunch of picks in the mid to late 20s? They wouldn't. The Kings are the best fit, also Portland depending on how that situation goes.
Portland is only option if McCollum — Dame isn’t on the table. And as mentioned above, Wolves deal is better.
Rosas sales pitch to Morey is the exact opposite as to his own organization. And probably more accurate in reality.
I detailed exactly why in another thread.
Err this thread:The Wolves package is better than most give it credit.
The Picks: even with Simmons, in the West, Wolves aren’t even a top 5 team. The picks should be at worst 15-18, with a chance the new look Wolves don’t jive and 76ers get a lotto 1st (maybe multiple). Maybe the Kings and Spurs offer the same quality firsts, but Wolves do for sure.
The Swaps: any swaps offered in the deal should convey. Philly could get a 4-15 slot improvement — even without Simmons (more so if Dame or Beal acquired later).
I am so tired of this disingenuous argument that you have been making for weeks. If Rosas really thought adding Simmons still left the Wolves as nothing more than a middling team, he wouldn't be trading all of his future picks for him. Neither would you. So feel free to keep repeating it and hopefully you're just doing it to try and convince yourself because its not convincing anyone else.
It makes no sense. I think the Wolves deal is dead as a Rubio/ANT combo is no longer on the table. I don't think the trading Dlo makes sense as him, along with KAT are 2 of Simmons best friends and the ONLY reason why he would ever green light that place in the 1st place.

How many picks would Toronto need to add in a Dragic for Sabonis swap?
Dragic, LeVert and Raptors picks to Philadelphia
Sabonis to Toronto
Simmons to Indiana
Dragic, LeVert and Raptors picks to Philadelphia
Sabonis to Toronto
Simmons to Indiana

Not the way Simmons is now.
None of that makes sense as the 2 players are on a different level. Simmons is a much higher regarded player. If we hopped in a time machine to 1 yr ago and brought up to the Sacramento forum about trading Fox for Ben-what would be the reaction? I'd say about 97% of them would like that move.
Now, since then Simmons has made another ASG, another all nba team, another all defense 1st team and added runner-up DPOTY. While Fox has.....?
Kings are playing around. If and when Philly offers Simmons for Fox, Sacramento is leaping at that deal. They might even do it knowing that Ben might be salty. Reason for that?
Ben Simmons is a much better player and they're getting a great discount on him. They have 3 point guards on the roster and 1 of them is making a ton of money.

Re: Where will Ben Simmons play this season?
Simmons fits on all these teams, some better than others but I'm trying to think from the perspective of Morey and I keep thinking I really need a PG coming back and I also don't want to send Simmons to the East where he can hurt me in the playoffs. He's a potential game-changer if he figures out things.
So I'd really have Fox ahead of all these other packages. It's arguable who's the best player in that deal whereas with these other proposals I'm sending out the best player every time.
Not only do I need a PG but since I feel confident about my team defense, athleticism and length even without Simmons, I really want a top scorer. So Fox would be my top target.
If it's true the Kings won't deal Fox, then Morey has to pick a runner up. If I can't land the top talent, then I want the next best talent whether that return is coming from the East or West.
So I believe the Sixers want Fox. Dame was plan A imo and that's not happening. I know all these either teams want Simmons but what I want most in return matters most.
Without Fox, I would have to have Davion Mitchell. He's a two-way threat ready to win-now. Mitchell would keep the Kings in the game as the runner-up package after my top target Fox. Kings have been losing for far too long and I think they have to seize the opportunity to become relevant.
