Millsap signs with Nets

Post#1 » by HardenGoat » Thu Sep 2, 2021 2:26 pm

So now we basically swapped Jeff Green for Paul Millsap. I think this is a solid vet signing and a no brainer for the vet minimum and negates the loss of Green to a certain degree. I really wanted to keep Green but he earned his money which we could not match. My thoughts on Millsap is he will be good but on limited minutes. The signing suggests his goal is a chip, and that's pretty motivating. His 3 point shot is just enough to keep the defense honest, and despite being somewhat undersized he can hold his own in the paint. What are your thoughts?

I love it, Millsap is a great veteran and locker room presence. All of a sudden, we have a ton of solid options in the frontcourt. Go Nets!

Love the move. Agree with everyone's posts above. Can never have enough experienced, high basketball IQ players on the team. Does pretty much everything well and he will helps the Nets keep Griffin's regular season minutes in check.

I'll fully admit though that I will miss Jeff Green and if all things were equal and it was a perfect world, if it was a straight up choice without any other factors between Green and Millsap, I would have liked to have kept Green. But all things were not equal as Green required more money. The Nets smartly used that money to instead sign Mills and replaced Green with Millsap. Both FANTASTIC pivot moves in my humble opinion.

I would say that we replaced Green with Milsap AND James Johnson. Which is no small feat. Johnson is bigger/tougher/better defender/better rebounder then green. he is like big version of PJ Tucker (sans the 3).

Milsap gives you all the offense green gave with better shooting/passing/posting/strength.

Im really high on johnson. i was high on milsap coming in to 2020. looks like he dropped off but am very optomistic in his role here, that he will shine.

We got our stretch 4! Roster is complete. great job by marks.

Footnote: its 99.9% Alize is gone. probably waiting for the 4th to cut him so that he earns his 100K bonus (marks always gets the low level guys their cash)

To me this is the biggest move of the off season.

Milsap is a proven playoff guy who has had big games. He will be a guy we need down the stretch to make big plays and play hard defense.

Great signing, if we get LMA too (I don't see how we don't if he's been medically cleared) we are pretty much 15 deep.

In Marks we trust.

Green wanted more than a 1-yr contract, and we gave the MLE to Patty Mills. I like Jeff Green (at least on the offensive end), but I'd take Mills over Green any day.

So really, financially and on the offensive end, we chose Mills and Millsap over Green, which I'd do 10 out of 10 times.

Positionally, we replaced Green with Millsap and James Johnson, which I'd do 10 out of 10 times as well, because they are much better defenders than Green.

Great business all around by Marks.

Excellent signing. I wonder how much he has left in the tank?

I think we were waiting for K-Love, but since that didn't happen now we see this domino fall.

The season is long and having Milsap as option 7-8 is solid.

I don't think Marks is done yet.

I assume management knows whether Love will be bought out/waived. He has too many friends on this team for them not to know what he will do, especially if he wants to come here. And I assume his 3pt shooting would rocket right back to ~40% if he's surrounded by elite players again.

Give me Millsap over this current version of Kevin Love anyday.

More versatile defender, not allergic to the paint on offense and gives us some of that blue collar physicality that we needed. Millsap and Blake gonna beat some heads this season, Bruise Bros

Unless there is a big trade, marks kind of has to be done. none of the 15 guys on the roster warrants an upgrade.

so unless its like TPE + Joe Harris + Rookies or a season ending injury to someone, i dont see a move.

Why choose one when you can have both?

Don't be surprised if we release someone to make space for him if and when he decides to leave the Cavs.

I'd certainly take him for the min but where do you fit him into the rotation let alone the roster space.

If LMA is indeed back then between LMA, Blake, Clax and Millsap that's pretty much all your big men minutes taken. Not to mention KD will also get major minutes at the 4/5.

Is Love willing to sit on the bench and be an emergency option? There's better gigs for him out there, and theres no way I want Love eating into Claxtons minutes. Clax need to play and develop

As a 12th man end of bench big, give me Sharpe instead.

Agreed. With Millsap and LMA we are good with bigs. The TPE is likely on lock for a wing defender if they become available.

At this point I'm not even sure who you'd waive if one were to become available, but it'd have to be either JJ or Bembry.

you dont waive johnson or bembry to trade the TPE for a more expensiive version of them

if we use the TPE, its with Harris for a big time player or because someone got hurt for the year and thus no cut is needed. otherwise, we can afford it
