Lamarcus Aldridge cleared to play, to sign with Nets

Post#1 » by HardenGoat » Thu Sep 2, 2021 4:13 pm

LMA adds another veteran presence and bolsters our depth, his 5 game stint last year proved he was effective in our system. People of course are saying this is risky, but with our current depth, is it really? Bottom line here is the big 3 absolutely loved him. And keeping them happy is what this is all about, especially now that we know Jordan will be the fall piece for this.

If he does sign with the nets that means either:

-DJ is traded, with no players coming back to the Nets
-Bembry (partially guaranteed) is released
-Sharpe or thomas is trade (maybe with DJ)

Assuming Alize is cut to make room for Milsap, we are ay 17 contracts (15 + 2 two-way deals). LMA would need a roster spot. i think a DJ trade may be imminent given the rumblings from the athletic?

As much as I love the Milsap move, I dont know that LMA is a better fit here then DJ. We have a stetch 5 in blake, who looked great. I'd rather DJ for some athleticism and rim running as opposed to another shooting big who is less ahtletic and who is more likely to take minutes from claxton.

the short time we had blake/LMA, Claxton became a benchwarmer.

I dont hate it, but id prefer Bembry for sure and maybe DJ too.

Jordan probably gets bought out. And Alize waived.

I like this move. Aldridge was great offensively and was good at times defensively.

Don't want the Lakers to get him.

Great news, LMA is a natural fit for our system he looked fantastic in the few games he played last season. Now it's time to come back and finish what he started.

Scary hours

Lol come on, man.

LMA/Claxton/Sharpe

This is a loaded roster.

I dont think we can play griffin and LMA together. Griffin has shown to be a subpar to bad defender at the 4, and his offensive usefulness is greatly minimized (part of his benefit at the 5 is drawing out the opponents big). LMA, likewise is slower and at best an avg defender.

I can see claxton/griffin maybe. but def not LMA/Griffin.

LMA>>>>>>>>DJ based on what I saw last season. As long as his heart issues don't come up again, this is a move greatly welcomed.

I think DJ (rim running/verticle threat) fills a bigger need then LMA (shooting/Post offense) but there is an argument to be had there.

At times last year teams didnt need a center or shot blocker to defend us, because there was no threat to score at the rim. Harden changes that a bit and may make it moot. mills too.

for me:

1) id rather claxton play then LMA
2) if i have a big 3rd string who doesnt play id rather it be someone who fits a void that may eventually become a need.

If Claxton didnt exsist, id be alot more onboard with LMA over DJ.

Jordan sucks. I don't even know why this is a discussion.

He will be out of the league next year. Book it.

LMA played exceptionally well with the Nets prior to retirement. I really loved his post game and presence on the floor; he added another dimension which helped us tremendously and we would have ripped the Bucks with him and given us another big to duel with Giannis and Middleton. With Millsap and LMA, Marks is fighting fire with fire with the Lakers moves. I really feel bad for the rest of the league but will love to see the Nets smother both the Bucks and Lakers. I really pray we are healthy, we are virtually unstoppable when healthy. We could outscore teams with the big three but LMA, Griffin, Millsap and Mills make us virtually unstoppable.

I will take anyone over DJ. I thought when LMA was on the court he played very well. It was kinda a nice chance from dj. LMA actually moved to the ball and boxed out and rebounded. Too often I saw DJ watch the ball on a rebound instead of going and getting it. He either doesn’t have the reaction time anymore or wasn’t trying.

The IQ level of Millsap,Aldridge and Griffin is to our advantage, they know when to cut, drive and have the ball in their hands without being super heros. When the league sees the movement of the ball and how much they smother teams, they will hate us even more. I really think they should run the Princeton offense, ala Kings back in 2003.

I remember watching LMA's first game here with some skepticism about how much he had left and how he can adjust to be a #4/5 option.

That skepticism lasted about 3 possessions

LMA excelled for us in the few games he played, until the very last game where he was understandably poor due to the heart issues. LMA showed me instantly (and majority of the fanbase) that he could do more on both ends than DJ for us. Claxton will be fine, if he's good enough, his minutes won't suffer. Claxton can become that rim running/vertical threat for us, at least in the regular season.

Claxton will get plenty of playing of time and Millsap/LMA are only one year deals in hopes we get a ring this year before they both ride off into the sunset. I see the Nets making a run at Oladipo next year as he has a connection with Harden. Lets just appreciate and relish this trio for the next four years or so. After that, there will be other players who will be on the move and want to come here. Yes, I said, we are the new LA lakers, star players will always come here now. The Nets have gotten over that hump.

Great to have LMA back! He is an upgrade over the underused DAJ...

Well some feel that way about LMA vs. DJ so it wasnt obvious it was hyperbole. and again, its not about what LMA can do better then DJ its about LMA and what he can do better then Claxton, because thats who goes to the bench for LMA. and Claxton wont likely get the opportunity under Nash, who limited/buried him when we got LMA the first time.

IF LMA is in, where do you see Claxton's minutes coming from?

96 minutes at PF Center:

Blake 24
LMA 24
KD 35
Millsap + Johnson + Brown = at least 13 PF minutes.

in the above scenario Claxton only plays when Blake, LM, or KD sit (which is probably 25 games). and not at all in the playoffs.

I'm fine if Claxton backs up blake. im not fine if claxton doesnt play.
