Now that we have more depth on the wing we should dangle Troy Brown and a 2nd rounder for a PF.

i have a sneaking suspicion we're going to end up with aldridge, based on kc's report last month that we've been linked to him since before he retired. which i don't think would be a particularly good signing, but at this point, whatever

If not Jordan then the Bulls should look at an older guard who can help develop our you guys and rally the troops in the locker room.

We already have a backup center so what would Jordan do for us? That doesn’t fix the hole at PF.

Depending on the matchup you can go big and put Jordan in with Vucevic. Hartenstein would be the backup 4 behind Williams and you’d put in Jordan as a scoring big off the bench.

i know this is the thread where people pretend Traditional Power Forward is still an important nba archetype in 2021, but we have to draw the line at the idea of playing nikola vucevic and deandre jordan at the same time

I’d draw the line at the idea of playing DeAndre Jordan at all, personally.

What do you think TBJ and DJJ's future are with the Bulls long term? b/c if we can only keep one of them, then I would be fine moving one of them for a PF.

However, if management is willing to pay both of them, (deeper into the luxury tax next season) than I'd prefer to keep both of them because they are solid defensive minded role players with upside.

We can find a guy that plays 10-15 minutes this season with the BAE. The Bulls don't need a PERFECTLY balanced roster this season unless the expectation is to contend right away. They could be patient, take a season to see what holes need to be filled, and then use the 2 1sts next year to fill those holes.

I like the idea of keeping TBJ and DJJ. It is a positionless league. Having too many small forwards is not a big deal. Move one to power forward, move one to shooting guard. Play multiple small forwards at one time. Keep both.

For our final spot or two, getting a big to help defend other bigs when teams go big is not a bad idea either.
I like Wilson, Hatenstein, or Vonleh. Bigs can play the 4 or the 5, and provide good rebounding.

Doesn’t bring much offensively aside from rim running, but that’s pretty much the only reason he’s available in our current price range. He’s got great energy on the boards and on defense especially in the passing lanes, the size and athleticism to switch pretty much 1-5 as far as I can tell —and, in accordance with what seems to be our MO — he’s got a little bit of skill with the ball in his hands from a dribbling/passing standpoint. Would be a killer starting/running a break. The video I shared here provides some really impressive numbers in terms of his defensive impact in comparison to the rest of the league. Some metric that I’ll admit I’ve never heard of rates him as the 4th most versatile/impactful defender in the league? Idk. But I like it.

I’ve spent most of the off-season assuming the Wolves would bring him back, but a quick glance reveals they aren’t in a much better cap situation than we are, which is to say they need to be thinking carefully about who they’re giving their last few dollars to. The fact he’s still out there this late in the process at encourages me.

I definitely don’t see anybody on the market more worthy of our BAE than Vanderbilt. Might as well try, and I’m sure we are. I finally feel aligned in terms of the players I like and the players I think our FO would like. I trust we’re checking in on this.

I'd rather hang onto TBJ over Coby at this point, and I like Coby, so maybe dangle him if anyone once he's healthy.

This would be a brilliant idea if it was still 2004.

Why would Minnesota let him walk though?

They are in a similar situation as the Bulls, with an offensive oriented center that struggles on the defensive end. He should be an ideal fit and at such a low price, there’s limited risk.

I’m with you. Like I said, spent most of the off-season not really expecting he’d actually be an option. But at this stage I’m at least reconsidering what Minnesota might be factoring in.

With the unimpressive roster they have, they’re pretty cash strapped too, so while I certainly like what Vanderbilt brings to OUR team as a “final piece” type guy in terms of his strengths being our weaknesses, is Minnesota in the same position to spend their last bit of cash on a guy who’s much less of a “final piece” to them? Maybe not.

Vanderbilt, we agree, would be a cost-effective option and good basketball fit next to KAT. But so is Jaden McDaniels, only a little bit better and a little bit cheaper (assuming we’re discussing JV at the 3.6m figure the Bulls could offer).

My hope is born from the fact that the Wolves haven’t gotten something worked out with him to this point. We could offer the BAE and they could very well match it. Not doing so would be a mistake, in my opinion, but as a Bulls fan I don’t advise the Wolves. All I’m saying is I’d make the offer and see what happens. Maybe at the end of the day we can send Minnesota a 2nd rounder in a S&T and help them create a 3.6m TPE.

So again I agree it’d be a mistake for them to let cheap talent go, but there could be reasons.

It’s not positionless on defense. You still need to be able to rebound and protect the rim. Sorry I don’t much faith in Derozan, Brown or Jones providing that presence. We already have finesse center. We are gonna be marshmallow soft inside if Williams isn’t an impact defender at 20.

This is the new normal. This isn't 2010 anymore. Traditional height/weight requirements for positions are an antiquated thing of the past and are no longer relevant in today's game. There's a reason this era is so commonly referred to as "positionless basketball." As the years go by, the game grows and evolves.

I personally cannot understand how anyone who watches basketball on a regular basis, and has done so for the past 3+ years, can have such a difficult time grasping this. What do they think they're watching? The majority of the time teams are playing small-ball with 1 PG, 3 wings and 1 big. Most modern PFs are 6'6"-6'8" SFs playing out of position. How can anyone who watches NBA basketball on a regular basis not be aware of this??? Are they not actually watching games???

Sorry for the rant. That wasn't directed at you personally, I've just seen a surprising amount of purported NBA fans who are stuck in this outdated mindset and balk at the idea of anyone under 6'9" playing PF and bizarrely try to deny that it happens by providing things like Basketball-Reference's positional estimates as "proof" that they play SG/SF rather than PF/C.

Look at P.J. Tucker's positional estimates on B-R. Everyone and their mother knows he's a PF/C, yet B-R says he's a SF/PF/SG/C in that order... https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/t/tuckepj01.html

The amount of pushback and outright denial of this is just very, very confusing to me.

Yeah, Jones will play small ball PF, but I dont think he ever played and will play center with 6'5 hahaha.. We need one true defensive PF with proper size, someone with 6'8-6'10

He has played C and probably will for us too. P.J. Tucker is 6'5", the same height as DJJ, and has played a ton of C over the past few years even though he's not nearly as athletic or lanky as DJJ is...

He wont and he shouldnt play C, with Vooch, Bradley and Simonovic here, plus another big coming. Small forward and small ball PF sure,
but thats it. Tucker played 99% as SF/PF, barely barely as center, even if he is build like tank, you cant cover so much taller players.

Are there any outside of the box acquisitions from Europe or Australia we could sign for a end of the bench big? I kinda like the idea of luring Niko back since he really seems to have matured in the Spanish League, but as somebody who just arrived to Barcelona last night and have spent a lot of time here with my wife and her family; I couldn’t be convinced to move back to Chicago. And I don’t even speak Catalan or Spanish.

I'd say Daniel Johnson from the Adelaide 36ers. Plays C, can play inside and out, puts the ball on the floor, good passer, solid defender. Good rebounder. He's a club great, but 33 years old

I think the Bulls could - though preferably without the 2nd rounder (at least until the tampering investigation is finished up) - but for what? Maybe Vanderbilt if Minny was interested? But other than that, who is out there that fits the mold and would be gettable for TBJr?

We're talking an expiring 2/3 who is currently the functional equivalent of Jarrett Culver (and, by the way, I'm still holding out hope that Culver becomes the player that I thought he could be).

If Niko were to come back, he'd get a couple million more reasons to be here ($$$), and I think the starting PF spot would be open for competition between him and PW.

But he's not coming back.

Last year he was supposed to interview with the Jazz and then decided to not get on the plane because he doesn’t want to be stateside. Maybe that’s changed but seems unlikely.
