Could have taken Sandro Mamukelashvili or Aaron Wiggins with this pick. Dude is an intriguing prospect, but having 4 centers doesn't really make sense to me.

If there's a Ben trade, I could see a scenario where Bassey gets signed and then just waived.

They need a young cheap backup for when Embiid doesn't play. Plus I thought they were stashing the other guy.

The C position is really tough. You can only play one C. Some dont even play with a C.

For me this is a 50-50 call and his agent acts like he is confident with his client to put up all this act.

Just 20% of this agent's clients are on NBA rosters.

the 2 lottery picks are more the outliers there, most of those clients are fringe NBA guys like Bassey

Okoro and Cauley-Stein choosing that agency is more questionable

Just give him a multiyear deal in the range of picks 25-30, who cares. Dude is an elite shotblocker that can hit free throws. It's not like he's going to be a bust.

Just saw this on the wiretap: https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/264070/Charles-Bassey-Continues-To-Seek-Multi-Year-Deal-With-Two-Year-Guarantee-From-76ers

Looks like he's only asking/holding out for the 2nd year guaranteed, and still participating in training etc at the Sixers' facilities in the meantime. Guessing that sticking point is just the roster spot and some cap space for next year, when lux tax will definitely be a thing. Still a little unexpected, it's not a big ask.

Wish they would just sign the guy at this point, I think he will be an asset with an extra year to trade

The agent knows Sixers paid a lot of money to draft him, so there’s some endowment from the Sixers part. While the agent also think he’d just be sent in the GLeague, might as well take his chance. Its a very smart asymmetric bet for him. The agent is also a nobody so this is also really good publicity for him

Morey is smart to just drag it out. First, Bassley is a big. And bigs are generally not in demand. The closer we get to season opener, the less leverage Bassley and his agent has. The last thing Bassley wants is to have a loss year next season. And by next year’s draft, there will be a new influx of talent again that further lose his chance to play in the league.

Sixers should not give in. The very worst is to meet half way for this may be a precedent for future similar situations for Morey and the team.

The Sixers bought that pick before the draft. They had no idea who would be on the board. Seems to me the Sixers might simply value Petrusev higher, so they don’t want to be wasting guaranteed money next year on a guy in Bassey they have no plans for.

Which is weird because I think Bassey is the better prospect. Maybe this will end up being a situation where the guy they took with the second choice ends up being the keeper (like Korkmaz over Luwawu).

I thought Petrusev showed well in Summer League, for the little bit that’s worth, while Bassey sat out. That also could’ve swayed the team’s thinking, as well as Petrusev being willing to wait a year.

Yup. If u ask me, they targeted Bassey when they bought it. This guy can play.

Another example, Milton over Shamet. But personally, I thought they did that on purpose. They hide Milton to not get him into the trades we did on that season.

Alright, I like it. Shame this took so long and we didn't get any Summer League play.

The only Sixers story almost as drawn out as the Simmons trade saga is finally resolved. The front office can now turn their full attention to the Simmons trade as clearly this incredibly important contract negotiation took precedence over moving Ben, lol.

Is there anything cool about a sea bass? Cuz I already call him that in my head and be nice if that could become a thing. Are they especially good at dunking, or holding out for a while at things before folding?

Wow, the agent actually got a partial year two guarantee. I'm sure he'll get some more fringe NBA clients as a result. Nice job by him.
