What's the Knicks' weakest position?

Post#1 » by KOA » Sun Sep 5, 2021 3:50 am

It feels like the Knicks finally have decent depth across the board.
Where do you think they need to most improve?

SF. Because after RJ, we'd be playing 2s that are too small and 4s that are too slow.

Center. We need an offensive threat specifically someone who can shoot the three. Someone like Brook Lopez

2 DPOY candidates on a team predicated by defense is our weakest position?

i'd say SF, but i'm going with Center since mitch can't stop getting hurt, and noel is not a starting center.

LOL are you crazy?

Mitch is the perfect center for this team. Dude can defend on the perimeter, and can be an inside presence with putbacks and rolling to the rim. Only thing he needs to be working on is staying healthy (as well as a hook shot and being a pick and pop shooter).

He fits well with Thibs' defensive and offensive scheme, and he's an underrated passer.

I have no problem with Mitch but it doesn’t change the fact that center is our weakest spot. We need someone who can both defend on one end and stretch the floor on the other end.

Could be any position other than the 4 and wherever you list RJ. Mitch & Noel ain't bad, but it also could be better...assuming Mitch still can't shoot...while whichever wing spot Fournier's starting at will be adequately occupied, but similarly upgradeable; and PG is one big question mark with the fragile oldies and unproven kids.

I can see Mitch having a great year and the PG rotation thriving; with McBride or IQ stepping up whenever one of the oldies needs to rest; leaving the 2 or 3 as our weakest spot...but I can also see Mitch regressing, Kemba barely playing & Derrick getting worn out to make C & PG our weakest spots.

Julius & RJ are the two I think we can bank on not being our weakpoint...although even those two have some question marks hanging around what we'll see from them this year. Should be an interesting year either way.

You don't really need a center to be a 3 point sniper. Why does every team need to follow Golden State? Centers should just be a player that puts pressure in the paint.

The reason the center position is going out of style isn't the offensive side, its the defensive. Hibbert, Jefferson, that center who was on the 2015 Timberwolves, they all are out of the league because they couldn't defend the perimeter. Robinson can, Noel can in spurts, Gibson can in spurts, and we all saw Jericho Sims can as well in Summer League. The center position is the strength, not the weakest.

The center position needs an upgrade. Fournier is a better shooter than RJ and should be the shooting guard.

Overall, the Knicks should have another decent season if they continue to stress defense to go along with the added offense.

I'm looking forward to another good season if the Knicks play to their full potential. 8-)

I see RJ as a 3 and Evan as the 2 but I still think SF is the weakest position but if RJ improves as many expect him to I think it will be fine.

Unless RJ grew to 6’8 it’s small forward.

SF and SG are interchangeable. They are wings. I wouldn't worry it too much.

shoring up a particular position is somewhat meaningless for us. the knicks weakest "positions" are it's top 2 scoring options. everybody else would be good enough if those 2 were better.

We have no superstars at any position so...that's our weakness. It takes top of the league talent to win a title. Usually more than one.
