Re: All Elite Wrestling - Discussion
Curious to see how they incorporate NJPW talent, Adam Cole, The Fiend, Flair and Buddy Murphy in the coming months.
The Rampage ratings have a long way to go but I can see WarnerMedia requesting an additional hour eventually.
The talent formula is fine, they just need more balanced time to showcase their talents more.

It was good for an "I see what you did there" moment, but brilliant? Nah. Don Callis and Christian have done really well in these promos - I can feel the hate - a beautiful thing.

Every time Omega has appeared anywhere, for like the past 2 months, he's done something great. A tshirt or shoes, an facial expression/gesture or a one-liner - he's been able to add a nod to something that's going on mostly outside AEW. He's been brilliant.

Aew is pretty much blowing wwe out of the water since the arrival of punk and things will just get better for them if they are able to land Bryan. Aew is missing that monster which is where Braun can come in and i want to hear what he has to say after facing a McMahon at WM and was in the main event at the very next ppv to getting fired shortly after. Hope he goes there.

I think Omega does a lot of winking at the audience/trying to subtly break the fourth wall, but I wouldn’t call him or his winks brilliant. It’s entertaining and all, but it’s overdone between him and the rest of the Elite. I don’t know what to make of Omega, exactly. He’s certainly showing charisma with his expressions and his somewhat manic promos, but they’re a little over the top, not believable, and not really memorable either.
As for Braun, I hear he’s rumored to go to Impact. Apparently D’Amore posted something with the hashtag “Braunforglory.” Everyone can’t go to AEW, and though he’s a big, main event former WWE guy, I’m fine with him going elsewhere.

As much as I love Kenny's work, he's a bit over the place right now, can't really put a finger on it. Maybe it's Callis

AEW's heavyweight division is pretty shallow and Miro and Brian Cage are pretty short I've met Brian Cage
in person before and he's probably 5'9 at "best" but you don't really notice it on TV. Braun is 6'5 at least
would be kind of nice to have a legit monster that's a former main eventer and has some credibility
being a former main eventer. Personally I'd love to see him destroy some of indy midgets on the roster

Made me realize they are short. Miro had to be the shortest one in the League of Nations stable before. Yeah no one is monstrous enough, we're not counting White and Shaq.Scott Hall wrote:tugs wrote:They do have monsters though. Top of my head:

How to build Braun though? Same formula from WWE?

Jim Ross will be transitioning out of his full time role as announcer (but apparently still calling big matches and special events). That sounds fine to me — interested to see who they replace him with.
Personally, I would love to see Mauro Ranallo in that booth.

Re: All Elite Wrestling - Discussion
Yeah I'm not sure how else to book Braun maybe have Big Show manage him?
Surprised to hear that about Jim Ross something must be up hopefully it isn't any health issues.
I gotta imagine Tony Schivonne moves over to his natural play by play position and Tazz fills in
for him.
You know who deserves some love is that Dan Lambert guy or whatever his name is that manages
that MMA team I liked his work in TNA during that Lashley vs. Moose feud a few years ago he reminds
me of Jim Cornette shooting on all the soft snow flakes these days lol

Re: All Elite Wrestling - Discussion
Braun is the easiest guy to book.
Come in, smash everyone, eventually he's at the top of the card (not main event) & facing off against the hero who is trying to slay the beast.
Once he gets beaten is where bookers have always run into trouble and it happens with every dude like him.
I'd sign him with the goal being that eventually he's the guy who will make Cage legit.
Once he loses you send him on vacation to Impact and bring him back in a few months where you repeat the process with Miro.
Then send him away again but this time when he returns he's a face saving the heroes from heels.
Ride out the rest of his deal as a "saviour" type who only shows up when the heroes have the odds stacked against them.
That keeps him away from titles, keeps him as a beast, keeps him special.
We miss the territory days in cases like this, where guys are just awesome in a role but having them on TV every week for months on end causes them to become just another guy.

would we be anti Punk AmDrag fued once he's done with Darby? do we want Dragon pitted against someone already on the roster when he gets there?

I do not want to see Punk v Danielson at this point, wouldn't be opposed to them forming some kind of alliance though. That would work pretty well since Punk and BD have both been very vocal about wanting to work with Fenix & Pentagon Jr. and Jurassic Express.

Re: All Elite Wrestling - Discussion
I'd be saving the Punk v Dragon fued for later, assuming AEW can book their TV shows better and to the point they are actually attracting casual fans.
Right now they have their niche hard-core fans on lock! The 1 million viewers are likely to stay regardless of what they do.
But that still leaves a million people who watch WWE that don't watch AEW so how do they grab them?
Then how do you grab additional people who don't actually watch any wrestling now at all.
This idea that the industry is doing well is kind of overblown to me but I lived through the Monday Night Wars.
Given society now they can't ever hit those kind of numbers but AEW shouldn't (& from all reports aren't) happy with "just" 1 million viewers.
The goals are much higher than that, as they should be.
Punk v Dragon should be a long term build and having them team might actually be the easiest way to get there.
The usual best friend turns on his buddy thing writes itself.
After Punk gives the rub to Darby and Bryan gives the rub to someone else have them tag against whomever for a year with a few singles matches in between against whatever talent you want.
Then have them have miscommunication in tag matches that eventually leads to a fued.
Before that though we've got to make MJF, Cage, Darby, Hangman, Miro etc and elevate Omega too.
Make no mistake - Omega is viewed by many as beneath Punk & Bryan. Can't have that hanging over him forever.
There's only so much mileage to extract from Punk & Bryan (& Jericho).
Using them to establish a core group of main event players should be the goal here, regardless of what fan service they throw in as "payment" for love and loyalty to AEW

I’d do Bryan vs Punk at some point. How can you not? That’s a big money match. I’m sure both guys came in to wrestle the young talent/talent they haven’t worked with before, but if the goal is actually building your product by getting more eyes on your program then I think you have to do at least a short feud with those two.

Re: All Elite Wrestling - Discussion
I love watching Tay Conti… but not because she’s a good wrestler. In all seriousness, her match with Penelope must’ve went 10-12 minutes — should’ve been about half that.
Edit:
Just way, way too much 2.0 all over every show now. It’s past ridiculous. They have no business being featured as much as they are, let alone constantly being in the ring with AEW’s main eventers.

Man, this trio. I get the Retribution similarities trying to make a name for themselves but they just have that cringey, go away heat. I think this is the first time I'm appalled by the presence of 2.0 and Garcia

I wish AEW looked a bit different. It has WWE production stink all over it.
