OT: Djokovic one match away from Calendar Grand Slam

Post#1 » by ceiling raiser » Sat Sep 11, 2021 3:08 am

The finals vs Medvedev are not a gimme, but at 27-0, he's very close.

Also makes you wonder how the Olympics play out if they were best-of-5's instead. If this match was best-of-3 I think Zverev could have expended all of his energy and won the third.

Crazy that Djokovic has turned his greatest weakness (durability and stamina) into perhaps his greatest strength.
Now that's the difference between first and last place.

Only done twice before, by Rod Laver, but more than 50 years ago. Incredible feat.

And Laver did it when the slams were grass on 3 of the 4 surfaces. What Novak is trying to accomplish is a first - grass, clay, and hardcourt. It would be the greatest accomplishment ever in tennis. Modern equivalents would be Warriors finishing the job in 16 or the Pats in 07.

I think Medvedev has a chance. I'd give it like 25%. If there is one Slam that Novak falters in for some reason, it's the US Open.

The GOAT.

He is one of the all-time great athletes when it comes to mentality. It's what makes him different from Nadal/Fed. They've got an incredible mentality as well, but Novak is just different. He's one of a kind in that regard.

I'm a Federer fanboy, so I still think he's the greatest player I've seen play the game... but if Djoker wins this U.S. Open I think his resume makes a very good case for GOAT status. IIRC Djoker also has the most Masters 1000 titles as well (by a long shot), which also hold a lot of value in my eyes.

And he already won each GS twice, unlike Nadal and Roger.

Can you elaborate why he's an a.....e, because Western media demonizes him like they did Lendl??? Do you live with him, did you spend any time alone with him so you know that from the experience :-? I am pretty sure he's loved and respected in the other countries outside of the Western Hemisphere  He pooped at Federer's and Nada's party, owned both of them head to head and he's on the brink to cement the Goat status , haters gonna hate 8-)

Nole is the GOAT. But he's been the GOAT for a while. The quality of his grand slam wins eclipse that of Roger who won most of his slams against relative bums before Djokovic and Nadal showed up.

Finals might not be a gimme but Med doesn't have a big shot to win. Zverev was the biggest challenge but he's a mental midget

With Fed being 40 and having knee surgeries as with Nadal the competition is really weak. **** it's so weak Fed still has 6th best odds to win Australian Open despite how washed up and old he is now. Tells alot about this era itd be like if Lebron was 40 with knee surgeries still being a top 5 Mvp favorite lol

IF Djokovic wins this US Open, he'll join Nadal and Laver as the only men to win Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open in a Calendar Year.

maybe because he yells at kids for no reason, and makes them cry, and acts like an **** on the court. He has a ton of bad history regarding his behavior on the court + all the COVID story. He demonizes himself, stop blaming the media.
