Obviously his health will trump everything, but I've gotta believe he really wants a title. My expectation would be he is a first-team all-NBA player if healthy. Basically his performance of last season, a risk for a triple double in any game.

Looking at Okafur's career stats. He scored 17.5, 7 Rebs, 1.2 blocks as a 20-year-old rookie. Not bad for a 20-year-old rookie on a terrible team. Never came close to those counting stats again, though obviously his minutes went down.
Do you think there's a way to predict which player will improve, and how much? Do NBA teams do psych evals of prospective draftees? Would it tell them anything? Does it explain why some players drop in the draft and others are risers?

edit: And is there a way to predict which players might be decent reclamation projects?

Fat, injured Harden put up 25 and 12 on 62% TS% and led his team to an 81% win percentage when he played. His best days are behind him, sure, but unless we're just still sitting here praying for more injuries to pile up he's probably going to still be pretty **** good.

Not really. Even the best evaluators get plenty wrong in every sport.

Yes, I do think they do at least some psych evals. Maybe 'psych' isn't the right word but that's what the interviews and doing their due diligence on their background is all about.

For Okafur specifically, I'd venture the issue with him was the evolution of the NBA. Probably would've been a solid if not All Star type player 15-25 years ago. Kind of the Greg Monroe type problem.

For reclamation projects, I think the best way I'd look at is to scrap the idea of them being 'star' or 'go to' type lead players. Then at that point try to identify a high level specific NBA skill they have where they can contribute as a role player or if you put him a spot to just emphasize this strength while minimizing the exposure of his weaknesses. If they don't have a clear higher level NBA skill probably just move onto another guy.

I'm with others on Harden, he's not going to be anything to scoff at, nor was he last year after leaving Houston. Could easily argue him for MVP for the time he actually played, he was really really good while KD and Kyrie were in and out of the lineup he was carrying the team.

I call him Marc Gasold due to him being old. Anyway, Spain seems nice what with the afternoon naps and tapped ass. Au revoir, sweet prince, we will never see the likes of you again unless you are a father of some tall boys who could potentially play hoop at a high level which I don't know on the account of Spectrum makes me pay extra for the wikipedia.

I'm kind of annoyed by this. Lakers able to shed a ton of luxury tax just by paying off the grizzlies.

Not the first time the Lakers and Grizz have made a trade that raises eyebrows

I don't really see a problem with this one. Lakers moved Gasol to a team who probably got paid Gasol's contract and got a free second round pick out of it.

Teams make trades to cut their luxury tax bill all the time.

“I have been told that Brooklyn never wanted to sign DeAndre to a four-year contract and that it got announced….in the madness, excitement of landing Kevin and Kyrie. It was basically told to Brooklyn in hindsight, after they kind of even agreed to a two-year deal, that no, if you want these other guys, you are taking DeAndre at this four-year contract,” Fischer said.

“I think has also been a source of tension and something that’s bubbled beneath the surface for a long-time now as well.”

Pretty bad overpay considering Denver just let the better player in Jerami Grant walk for less in free agency last offseason.

Speaking of Grant, I wonder what Detroit does with him. He’s a “young veteran” for that team but I wonder if they would consider cashing out on him via trade. Gotta think a lot of teams would be interested.

They didn't let him go for less; they matched Detroit's offer and he chose to go to Det anyways to get the opportunity to be the man.

And for Den I think Gordon is probably a better match anyways. They desperately need a defense first player and Gordon is much better on that side of the ball than Grant.

Imagine turning CP3 into Westbrook into Wall and Harden into... what like 3 late 1sts?

Then they should have given him the Gordon contract in the first place. Can't imagine Grant would have taken $30 million less just to "be the man" in Detroit, Michigan.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
