Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili.

Post#1 » by AMW27 » Mon Sep 13, 2021 2:42 pm

Both Parker and Ginoboli are both most likely a lock for the hall of Fame. If both of them didn't play their entire careers on a title contender do you believe the would be considered hall of famers now?

For me if they did get in it wouldn't have been an automatic lock for them.

Want to hear everyone's opinion.

For their international accomplishments probably. Certainly Manu. As long as they made a few all star games I don't see why not

Manu was lock for HOF in 2004 when Argentina won gold. Parker would also be in HOF just for his international career.

Manu would most likely even be more of a lock if he played on another team. He sacrificed a lot of individual accolades by staying with the Spurs. I think he would've been right up there behind Kobe as the best shooting guard during his era. Think he would've been looked at similarly to how we currently look at Dirk.

I think it's easy to miss just how much flair and skill each of those players had because the team was always the bigger story with the Spurs. Mark me down for both being in the Hall with or without the Spurs.

4 Eurobasket medals, but no Olympic or worlds medal, I am not sure Parker goes in purely by International, he honestly should have been much better FIBA player than what he was I would say.

I'd say Manu would, because if he were on a different team and played 33 mpg he could've averaged 24/5/8 on 60 TS% or so. Tony...idk. Like, what happens if he's on a bad or mediocre team? I don't think his impact was that crazy

Manu was unique... Parker was good, but I am not sure he would get in if he wasn't part of that Spurs core... that said the bar for the BBHOF is pretty low.

Didn't they kind of have something to do with making their teams contenders (and champions)?

Of course, but they arent LeBron like talents where they could make any team contender just by themselves. There is hypothetical reality where those guys are on crap teams.

I dunno...they'd have to take more money than they did for that to work. Both took very team friendly deals which just makes it harder to figure out. There's no world Manu on his deals doesn't end up on a playoff team imo, short of him just being hurt constantly. Parker similarly, he was just an efficient scorer and good teammate. I don't see too many teams who can make it work with him.

But yeah if they went to the twolves, sure no hall for either.

Wouldn't that lead to him breaking down like in his early thirties? I think there was a reason, that he didn't play too many minutes. Sure I also think he would have put up better numbers from his 04/05-10/11 years, which could be considered his prime (29 MPG, 17/4/4). But 24/5/8 seems a little too optimistic.

I thought he would put up Brandon Roy like numbers before Roy broke down. So 21/5/5ish.

There is a hypothetical reality for everything.

Sure, each of them could hypothetically be on bad rosters and losing teams. But together, they were numbers 2 and 3 of a perennial contender and multichampionship big 3. So taking the team success that they had a major role in achieving away from their resumes is a little too hypothetical for me.

Manu's achievements with Virtus Bologna and Argentina would be too much to ignore even if he played for a **** team. I think he would also manage to get a couple all-stars appearances.

Parker has no business being mentioned in these kind of hypotheticals
