A guy who was a starter for the NBA champions is worse then Harkless and Bradley? Although limited, Tucker's also pretty consistent for what he brings so that's one less variable Spoelstra has to worry about on the court allowing him to make better play calls. This team desperately needed some toughness and Tucker will help in that category.

FWIW those are back to back starting PF from most recent two champions

some "fans" are just plain ungrateful and can never be pleased P. :noway:

IggieCC wrote:Jimmy became pretty decent 3 point shooter in Minny. no reason for him to regress so badly but somehow he did. I'm hopeful that he'll be a 36% 3 point shooter (league ave.) and it will help this team (and himself) tremendously.

Here's the thing with Butler, he works on what he's going to utilize the most, since he's become a good scorer he's worked on his moves and less on his 3pt shots, he evolved to a facilitator/scorer which is what he's been in Miami. When Butler came into the league he was a defender and worked on his 3pt shot to the point he shot above league average from 3... 38% 3p% in season 2(his first regular minutes season). Season 3 he started out shooting 38.5% then was injured, he had turf toe most of the year and other injuries and wasn't able to continue working on his game like he wanted to(turf toe needs rest, not practice), he gutted out the season with Chicago so depleted and when finally able to work hard again, he locked himself in a gym that summer and became an all-star.

Butler's work ethic and the ability to change his game to what the team needs is why giving him the max for his mid 30s shouldn't be an issue, he has a facilitating PG now, he can let Bam be the secondary facilitator if that's what Spoelstra wants while Butler can go back to being a scorer... he has to be able to hit 3pt shots if Lowry is going to create those shots for him.

What is interesting about the 2 PFs is that both are known for their toughness, ability to guard multiple positions and the ability to hit 3s if left wide open, it's almost like Spoelstra and the Miami FO see this as a position they can go cheap with as long as you get that archetype which they did not get last year, Ariza was able to do the defense and 3pt shooting, he didn't bring the toughness though.

Miami isn't a favorite for the title, but they are at least a legitimate contender. Not many teams have the personnel to defend Brooklyn in the playoffs, but Miami has Bam, Tucker and Butler who can take turns on KD, Tucker, Butler, Oladipo and Lowry to guard Harden and Kyrie, the question is who does Brooklyn have to guard Miami's players in the playoffs? KD on Bam I get, B.Brown on Butler... but who can defend Lowry, Oladipo and Herro? People please remember, the playoffs are different then the regular season, talent wins in the regular season, talent and effort wins in the playoffs.

Baring injuries, the next 3 seasons should be fun and who knows, maybe a couple of young guys "pop" in that timeframe to become core players long term to satisfy the rebuilding fans.

That’s just the lithium talking.

PJ will fit the role Miami is going to fit him in at better then Harkless did. Even if someone think Harkless is great, he was not very good the way Miami wanted to use him.

Sadly anyone that is available and can play will add more value then the 3 or so games Miami got out of AB ( i realllllyyyy liked AB too, hate that it didn’t work out)

Just curious, are there any pictures of Ray Allen with Paul Pierce and KG? I mean, there were some Celtics there for PP induction.

Ray looks like he found himself in an uncomfortable situation there

I still think Ray Allen is closer with the Miami crew than with the "tough guys" from Boston. Paul Pierce saw Allen taking pictures with Bosh and had to get in there and say we are "brothers"

Looks like we went emergency depth rather than development with this one. Which I don’t necessarily hate with the age of our roster.

Yeah, looks more like a plugin player at less than minimum salary in case of an injury or long layoff.

It's a good move for this year to stay under the tax. If you think about it, development players won't be around after this season unless they prove themselves by next season or are on 2 way contracts. Next season the hard cap will be gone, Oladipo will have to be paid and Miami has to know they're going into the tax with this roster and hopefully get some "deals" from players like the Lakers got with Nunn and Monk, not starting the repeater tax a year early is very important this year and getting a possible useful bench guy on a 2 way to not count towards the cap(to stay under the tax) is a great way to go.

I'm cool with Martin. He's a mature, physical player who I think fits the way we play. Can defend a little, shoot a little. He's no world beater but he's solid depth that can fill a role if we need him to.
