you have never been one to care for defense
While that is mostly true, it's been proven that in the sim it never really mattered all that much. As far as 2K goes, it's like putting diesel in a car and watching it sputter when you run a bad system proficiency. (Unless that's changed in the new game)
I agree and disagree to some extent.
I think your experiment last year proves defense does matter. You were stacked offensively but probably threw out the worst starting 5 defensively possible. Having a bunch of 40-50 rated defensive guys is a disaster waiting to happen.
Also my team was brutal offensively outside of Wiseman. But I started 5 rookies for the most part with nearly all 5 of them 80+ defensively (I think the only one that wasn't was Haliburton). I think I held the league to the lowest 3pt shooting against. I think that was a main reason I made the playoffs + Wiseman beast season but I was able to keep the games low scoring enough and make team shoot inefficiently.
Now I do agree sometimes the SIM defensive rating can be all over the place. Like Harden being an elite defender is a joke...some other guys have crazy ratings, I think thats because any objective stat based simulation will over value countable stats like steals and blocks. Its tough to put a rating on good m2m defense other than having some level of subjectivity which I think the SIM tries to stay away from therefor you have those outliers.
