Re: Wall blasting off who wants him ?
An off the wall trade thought.
The Pacers have trouble defending quick point guards and lack a real point guard. So Pacers trade Malcolm Brogdon, Justin Holiday and Jeremy Lamb to the Rockets for John Wall and a 1st.
Kevin Porter wants to play point and Jalen Green shooting guard and some small forward , Brogdon could play both shooting guard and point even some small forward. Holiday can play sf . sg and with the Pacers some pf. Brogdon and Holiday would also be attractive trade pieces . Or perhaps the origianal Rockets/Pacers trade could involve a 3rd team.
From the Pacers side Wall would be yet another player acquired with a injury history which the Pacers have been known to acquire in the past. Positives a healthy John Wall , is still quick enough to guard the smaller quick point guard who Brogdon struggles against. He is also a one man fast break and better passer and defender than Brogdon.
Holiday and Lamb's minutes can be filled by Chris Duarte , Oshae Brissett and Torry Craig. The hit on the Pacers cap would be next season not this season.
Just an outside the box idea of a trade that could potential help both teams

Don’t really get CLE as a destination from Walls perspective, since they’re working together on it.
I bought a boat.

Very much depends on why he wants out of HOU. If its because he knows that now that Green is there he's never going to see the floor, a role with CLE (one of perhaps one teams willing to take him) where he knows he can get 25+ minutes a night as part of a 3 guard rotation (assuming Rubio goes to HOU) with Garland/Sexton might sound ok.

This is why we need salary retention the NBA like the MLB and NHL has. Wall at half of what he makes could be a key title contending piece and could net the rockets a 1st. I dont see a trade here. probaby the Blake Griffin special.

OKC would probably take him to to the whole PG restoration flip **** they have been doing.
They take him in for a couple of seconds and he plays well they flip him in the summer to a team with some cap space.

I can assure you the OKC thunder would not take on $90M worth of a player they do not want for 2 2nds. Not to mention the substantial hurdle of how OKC could even trade for him.
But no, this is not close to a thing they would consider on any level. And what team is going to have $50M worth of cap space? And why is that team going to both blow it all on John Wall and pay OKC assets to do so?

Re: Wall blasting off who wants him ?
Actually Godaddycurse , valuewise the Pacers would be giving up a point guad for a point guard. They get rid of Lamb's 10.5 mil contract something they been trying to do all summer. Holiday's minutes can be taken by Bissett who out played him last season Torry Craig and 1st round pick Chris Duarte
WHEN HEALTHY a big IF Wall is a big step up from Brogdan on defense and ball handling.
Salary wise for this season Brogdon, Lamb and Holiday make over 38 mil campared to Wall's 44 mil the Pacers can waive the unguanteed 1.7 mil contract of Kelen Martin plus add Goga Bitadze's 3+ mil deal to get to over 43 mil and stay under the cap
Next season Wall makes 47 mil with player option with the traded players contracts off the cap and TJ Warren's future in the air after another injury and small tweaks the Pacers would still be under the luxury tax
Not saying any way the trade happens but even as a Pacer fan I don't think the package I suggest would handcuff the Pacers . They have too many similar players as it is and would be better off consolidating some to add a better player another reason the Pacers were mentioned in early Ben Simmons trade talk

Wall isn't going to play this year... I don't see anyone trading for that contract... again.

From a basketball sense I’d do Rubio/Love for Wall/House. But Wall’s salary is so difficult to break into smaller pieces if he wants out after the season.

That must be you who posted this on Pacers Reddit a little bit ago

It’s a terrible deal for Indy. We send out around $38m and take back around $44m in salary this year, putting us solidly into the tax this year, and costing us a ton of cash. The hit on the Pacers cap would for sure be this year, and MUCH more so next year, too. It’s doubly bad, financially.
Otherwise, Brogdon is a better player than Wall. I get including Lamb for filler, though we really might need him right now with the Sumner/Warren injuries, and Justin HOliday is a solidly needed player. The problem with saying that Holiday/Lamb can be filled with Duarte/Brissett/Craig is that those 3 guys are already having to cover for Warren/Sumner, too. And again, Brogdon is a better player than Wall now, so you’ve downgraded, gotten much thinner, and have gone deep into the tax for the Rockets 1st, which I assume would be protected.

Also anyone know if that trade could be assorted so that House comes in for our trade exception and then Love goes out directly for Wall and we get an exception for Rubio? If not does Osman/Love/Rubio for House/Wall get us a sizable exception we can use next offseason?

Again, not getting rid of Lamb’s salary if it is doubled, and added onto Brogdon’s salary to make $42+m this year instead.
And Brissett and Holiday didn’t compete in any way for minutes. They are completely different roles. Brissett is a 4/3. Holiday is a 2/3. Ideally, we’d need both, even with Duarte here, due to the injuries to Warren/Sumner, and the trading of Aaron Holiday.
WHEN HEALTHY a big IF Wall is a big step up from Brogdan on defense and ball handling.
Wall hasn’t been healthy for years, and even if he’s a step up in those two ways, he’s a HUGE step down overall offensively.
Now, you’ve put the Pacers into the tax (Brogdon, Lamb, Holiday, Kelan, and Goga combine to make $43m, while Wall makes $44.3m this year, putting Indy $700k into the luxury tax even before filling the required 3 roster spots that you’ve traded away). Realistically, if we fill those last 3 roster spots with vet minimum guys, you’ve put the team about $6m into the luxury tax.
Next season, you’ve committed the Indy roster to about $130m with a $145m luxury tax line, with Sumner and Warren expiring, and only 9 players under contract, I think. So, fill out the final 5 required roster spots with less than $15m total. 6 roster spots if you want to fill out the 15th roster spot.Next season Wall makes 47 mil with player option with the traded players contracts off the cap and TJ Warren's future in the air after another injury and small tweaks the Pacers would still be under the luxury tax
Not saying any way the trade happens but even as a Pacer fan I don't think the package I suggest would handcuff the Pacers . It definitely handcuffs the Pacers, this year and next. Realistically, we’d also have to deal Warren for no salary returning to get under the tax for this year. For next year, we’d have very little recourse to fill out the roster spots.
I’m all for consolidating into better players, but it’s most important that you first find a better player than the ones you’re trading away. I think you’re still thinking of the John Wall from 4-5 years ago, and he’s nowhere near that.

I just don't see how any trade gets done this season. Wall can't stay healthy and is still owed over $90 million (so a buyout is almost certainly out of the question). Maybe next season at the deadline if he actually stays healthy from now until then.

It looks like it can, yes.
Love and Osman combine for enough to match Wall (Love *almost* makes it on his own, but not quite: Osman needs to be included). So if Cleveland can take House with a TPE, the Cavs would get a new TPE for the entirety of Rubio's salary.
