Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Re: OT: TV and Movies
I have the following saved as an archived email from 6 years ago that appeared in the AV Club comments. Doesn't really matter if it's embellished or not, but it rings true.
************************
I saw Norm a few weeks ago at the Sixth & I synagogue in D.C., one of just a few stops he’s doing as part of his book tour, in a conversation with Geoff Edgers, the author of the Washington Post referenced in this review. He talked a bit about the book and his choice to make it a mostly fictional “novel” memoir, his comedy career, etc., and he was very funny throughout. The best moment for me was when Edgers asked Norm if he had any pre-show rituals before going onstage for a stand-up show.
“I close my eyes, I take a deep breath, and then I, uh, swallow a fistful of acid. And my doctor, he’s like a broken record! He says, ‘Norm, you can’t do that – you can’t be taking a fistful of acid every night. It’s not good for your health.” And I think, What the fk does he know? He’s a giant purple dog!

No one quite like him and truly fearless with his comedy. Going to be binging Norm now. There are so many great moments to choose from, but one of his more recent bits about Germany is probably one of my favorites. He did it during the Dave appearance Chones mentioned, so I'll just link the whole thing:

C'mon FA, I'm trying to maintain a veneer of composure at work.

Somehow I had forgotten one of my favorites of Norm's SNL characters.

Re: OT: TV and Movies
Just gutted.
Funniest guy ever in my opinion.
Damn glad I can say I saw him in Vegas. He killed, called us all **** and walked off the stage. One of the best shows I ever saw and he was past his prime at the time.
Him hosting the presidential broadcast awards (or whatever they're called) was hilarious. Along with damn near everything else.
God dammit.

I had never seen that. Thank you for sharing it. It actually made me cry.

KD with a predictably great tribute. This is a line that makes perfect sense but I won't even attempt to explain.

I really don't know what else to add, but it makes my heart glad to see he was unanimously remembered fondly while doing little consciously to curry that favor.

MacDonald didn’t owe his renown to this exposure. He earned the attention because Norm MacDonald was the only one in the building who wasn’t trying to be our friend. He was the human at the party that the cat walks up to.

My favorite part of Norm's roast of Saget (that is way too hard to find online because of Comedy Central) is actually his final 30 seconds or so. I die every time I see the whole thing, but he was so sincere and nice and the hug at the end always gets me.
