The Timezone Draft - Sign-ups

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Tue Sep 14, 2021 5:11 pm

Draft rules:

1. Subject to the rules to be set out below, players from the 1989-1990 to 2020-2021 seasons will be available to be drafted. You can draft players who came in the league before 1989 but the season you choose can't be before 1989-1990.

2. You must draft exactly 2 players from each of the four timezones. The timezones used will be:

Pacific

Portland
Sacramento
LA Lakers
LA Clippers
Golden State
Seattle
Vancouver

Mountain

Phoenix
Utah
Denver

Central

Minnesota
Oklahoma City
Dallas
San Antonio
Memphis
New Orleans
Houston

Eastern

Detroit
Toronto
Milwaukee
Chicago
Cleveland
Indiana
Atlanta
Charlotte
Orlando
Miami

Washington
Philadelphia
New York
Brooklyn
Boston

For relocated teams the location at the time of the season chosen counts, therefore Seattle and Vancouver seasons are Pacific, all Charlotte seasons are Eastern. You don't have to declare the season or timezone when you pick.

3. You will be required to draft a total of 8 players. Each of your players must play a minimum of 8 minutes in your rotations.

4. Each player you select must have played at least 50% of regular season games in the season selected for the franchise you choose. In the rare case that a player plays over 50% of games overall but doesn't hit 50% of the games for either of the franchises, he is ineligible.

5. Your team will be allowed a combined total of 88.0 FGA with a minimum of 3.0 FGA per player corresponding with the specific seasons indicated for each player. NOTE: You may pick a player whose actual FGA number was lower than 3.0, but you still be charged 3.0 for that player.

6. We will be doing a modified snake draft. It will go like this: ABBABABA

7. Players will get a maximum of a 2-hour window to make their selection when they are on the clock. If you still have not chosen a player by then, or if the player you have chosen is ineligible, you will be skipped. Also, if you know ahead of time that you won't be available to make your pick on the clock then please PM your selection to myself or another participant. NOTE: If you miss one pick and have failed to make it by the time your next pick comes around, you will be skipped.

8. The clock will be turned off between 12 midnight and 9 AM EDT.

9. Draft order will be completely randomized.

10. After you have made your draft selection, please quote and/or PM the person that goes after you so they will know that it is their turn and they are on the clock. You may not change your pick after it has been made, even if the next person in the order has not picked yet. Please note that the clock starts whenever the previous drafter has either made their pick or their two-hour window has expired, even if the next person is not quoted.

10. The winner of the draft will be determined by playoffs.

Sounds too good to pass on this. I'll see what to do with my sleep schedule around the time of the draft

What's the rule for players traded between divisions in-season?

You must play 50% of the season for a franchise to use it

Should hope for a few more, and possibly reduce the year-span. I feel like you need 16 drafters for teams to not be overly stacked going all the way back to 1990.

Does that mean 50% of the player's games or the franchise's games?

In an 82 game season it would mean they have to play 41 games for at least one of the franchises. That makes a few seasons ineliglble if they're both midseason trades and got injured (I believe 08 Pau is one), but it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

So technically if a player played at least 41 games for franchise A and at least 41 games for franchise B in the same season, he would be eligible with both franchises, correct? I'm not sure if this has ever happened, just hypothetically.

Maybe more importantly, since we are focusing on the franchise he represented, should we use ONLY his numbers for that franchise? I'll use an example from the 70s so a season that isn't eligible:
Adrian Dantley in 1977/78 is eligible for the Lakers (56 games played)
For the Lakers only, he had 12.9 FGA per game. However for the season, he had 14.3 FGA. So which number goes for the calculations? By the looks of it, it makes more sense to use the number for the franchise used and not the total number.
