Re: Ben Simmons Trade Thread Part 4
The Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey first reported late last month that Simmons and his representation requested a trade in a meeting with the 76ers' brass, making clear his intention not to attend training camp.
According to Wojnarowski, the two sides have not spoken since that meeting.
Simmons can be fined $227,613 each day he does not participate in camp. He is aware of the potential fines if he does not report and is willing to take that risk never to play for the Sixers again, Wojnarowski reported. Simmons is in the second season of the five-year, $177 million maximum contract he signed in July 2019.
Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey has scoured the NBA for fair trade value and so far found nothing close. The Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly unwilling to part with Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards for Simmons. The Sacramento Kings have reportedly kept De'Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton off the table. The Golden State Warriors reportedly will not deal James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga for Simmons. Philadelphia reportedly turned down a deal centered around Indiana Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon. Collin Sexton would reportedly be the centerpiece of the Cleveland Cavaliers' interest.

Re: Ben Simmons Trade Thread Part 4
Realistically, Morey doesn't want to have "less" of a chance at a championship during Joel's prime.
So, realistically, Ben not being there gives the Sixers "less" of a chance in my opinion. Ben being there, playing poorly because he doesn't want to be there, gives the Sixers "less" of a chance.
So I'm left to conclude that Morey will want to find a piece that can be better than "Ben Simmons having a bad day". Which, on a bad day Ben still gives you the defense, pace, gravity, and passing. So maybe you can't exactly replicate that, but you can find that from other guys on the floor, while getting a PG to run the team in the half court, who can hit pull up jump shots.
Does it have to be Dame or Beal? No.
If you were going to look for a guy who can put pressure on defenses with drives and perimeter scoring, create his own shot, push the pace in fast break and play some defense, who comes to mind?
Work off a list of PGs who would add value to the current roster, and go from there in terms of having a similar chance at a Championship.
Morey will eventually drop the price, which will re-engage those teams and maybe bring new teams to the table. And then the price will drive up again as these new teams begin to try to outbid one another.

But i dont agree with boxing ourselves on a “win now” player type deal.
I hear the Sixers argument that Neubeck laid out in his latest article.
I think I just don't agree with where Morey has their title odds. If he's not willing to pivot back, take a bunch of picks, and then wait for the next star to come free... it likely means he has their title odds >=2%. And I think we have enough data to know that a Ben Simmons/Joel Embiid/Tobias Harris-led team has a 0% chance at a title.
They should be looking to simply maximize value. Whatever form that takes.

With each major NBA Twitter account weighing in on this seemingly every week, Ben better go way out West to avoid the inevitable foaming-at-the-mouth Sixers fans multiple times a year.

Time to hit him where it hurts. Unfollow this trolling child on all social media platforms. He doesn't want to play for Philly so the fanbase shouldn't be giving him the time of day which translates to money in his pocket.

If Morey allows himself to get punked by Simmons I am done with the Sixers. I don't want these garbage offers.
If he doesn't want to report fine his ass into oblivion

Re: Ben Simmons Trade Thread Part 4
It sure is funny to read the Sixers subreddit these days.
I remember not so long ago I would get crucified for even slightly criticizing the "jumpshot away from being LeBron" kid. Now the NPC's who started rooting for the Sixers in 2018 have all completely turned on him.

LETS TRADE BEN RIGHT NOW FOR OVERPAID WASH UPS BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT ESPN/MEDIA WANT. So far applauding Morey. Keep Ben and see if Klutch or Ben change their tune as they get deeper in to the season.

Pretty much this if we pull off an Irving like trade because Simmons is pouting then I am done with the Sixers and the NBA in general. For god sakes owners and GM need to grow a pair. Simmons has 4 years left on his contract and zero leverage to force anything

Guys.. life ain’t fair. And the NBA life (for fans) certainly isn’t.
The Sixers don’t have leverage here simply because you want them to. You can’t fine this guy for the whole year lol, there is NO precedent for this. Morey waited it out as long as he could, but now the jig is up. He overplayed his hand on a diminishing asset, get the best deal you can now and pray Maxey steps up in a big way.

Re: Ben Simmons Trade Thread Part 4
yall are too emotional lol.
The high school approach of punish the millionaire does not fly in pro sports lol.
It doesn't even work in the NFL and they have a terrible PA.
This is all apart of the posturing stage. Ben will definitely miss the first week of camp now but I doubt it lasts that long. The deals aren't going to improve (or get much worse tbf) so its more about what Morey/FO want to do at this stage. But the sit him forever and take all of his money stuff is not going to happen and despite everything would be a terrible look for the franchise...which of course Ben and his team is enablers know (its also a bad look for him...but that would require some self awareness)

I'm sorry, are you mentally ill or uninformed?
Of *course* they can fine him the whole year- they can fine him for FOUR YEARS. They can fine him for every day he doesn't show up to play. It's called EMPLOYMENT ... and it's not a "He Said/She Said" - it's a contract, with a contracted Collective Bargaining Agreement, By-Laws, Rules, Regulations, Etc.
Morey is doing the OPPOSITE of overplaying his hand now. It's entirely on Simmons. You want to be the one to look like a fool, be our guests. The game is not going to stop. Maybe we won't be "as good" without him, but the games will still get played, he just won't be paid.
It's the literal and figurative definition of "Go Pound Sand" for $1,600 , Alex.... DAILY DOUBLE!

Fine Ben for four years. Yeah, you’re definitely a moron
He’ll be traded in a week tops, and then you won’t be around to apologize. It’s cool.
always a jump shot away.

Re: Ben Simmons Trade Thread Part 4
I don't see any way Ben can simply sit out indefinitely and come away with a favorable image. Even Harden showed up to training camp last year. It's unprecedented and Morey isn't going to give away Ben for peanuts. I think he's willing to get dirty with this and I don't think the NBPA is going to get involved.
This isn't a situation where we're shortchanging a player or we're not willing to discuss the max with him. The Sixers are willing to pay him his enormous contract and try to bury the hatchet . Everything that's happening right now is Ben's doing. This does nothing to the image of the Sixers around the league, unless the opinion of Rich Paul and his client base matters.
