And this is why you don't have 27 medicore wings on an NBA roster with zero forwards with any size. Smfh.

Honestly, I'd like to see how Alize does with starters.

Well, at least on defense. I expect the offense to look completely different from last season considering we have 3 or 4 legitimate creators now.

That’s better than I thought. Still a shame he will miss training camp with basically a brand new roster, but I guess I would prefer an injury now than mid season.

My guess is if he misses games, we start Caruso, run small, Derozan at the 4 with Lavine and Lonzo manning the wing positions. Just a theory.

Boy the problem is being an ankle he can't run to stay in shape, can't shoot to keep his stroke in tune, can't ride a bike to stay loose. He sits or walk around in a boot so it really holds him back when he does come back.

My initial thought is Jones and A Johnson decide who starts by their play in the pres season, Simonovic gets his chances. maybe later DeRozan gets some minutes with the second unit while more time for Brown.

My more optimistic hope would be that they were already working on a deal for a PF using Jones and whoever or whatever once teams start paring down their rosters and they move that timetable up as far as they can.

Seems like he might not miss too many games. Better now than a month from now. Injuries are a part of sports.

This highlights just how poorly constructed the frontcourt is though.

An ankle sprain during an OPTIONAL INDIVIDUAL workout... and this is the guy who was destined to replace an allegedly injury prone PF.

The Bulls are in for a trouble when the actual games start.

The season hasn't even started yet and already two key rotation players are going to miss all of training camp/preseason and the early part of the season. We're down our starting PF and our only bench player who you could truly call a scorer. I'm not surprised, but I am disappointed.

I'm less concerned about the amount of games he'll miss and far more concerned by the fact that he won't have any training camp/preseason which means by the time he does return it could be like December before he starts playing himself into prime game condition. He already missed SL and had a truncated training camp as a rookie due to COVID, so this is definitely a setback.

when it comes to depth, i’m less worried about size and more about shooting. put a non-shooter in at pf next to derozan, you start opening the door for opposing defenses to muck things up. even going small and starting caruso is a little less potent on offense than i’d like, just because he’s not really a proven shooter and even in a good season he was picky about his opportunities, although hopefully he should be able to prevent defenses from playing off him too much

ideally from an offensive perspective you’d add coby to the starting lineup but that might be the worst possible defensive lineup a team could construct

Sucks that he’ll be out for the first two weeks. Silver lining is hopefully the bulls can develop a meaningful Forward off the bench like Alize or Stanley Johnson instead sliding Derozan to the 4. Regardless if PWill was healthy we were going to need Alize or Johnson to be contributors if we are going to have a meaningful playoff push.

Have those two compete in training camp for those early minutes.

I updated the title to reflect the true injury date of prognosis.

So he is probably out 3-5 more weeks which is right before the season or a week after. Thats much better.

The main thing for me is that it's not a ''serious' injury which requires surgery first and foremost. But beside the injury itself, I hate to see him missing training camp, especially with such a big turnaround in the roster.

Still, he is still so young, it wouldn't shock me if he comes back sooner than expected.
Why so serious?

Alize Johnson might be a smart fantasy pickup.
