If Push Came to Shove... (Irving Trade)
... would you do this Kyrie deal? I know that he and Kevin are as close as friends can be, BUT we may need to move him in order to field a contender. Consider this, and share your thoughts:
https://fanspo.com/nba/s/nets/trades/y9SnKH1FTAmSo-/brk-gsw-phi
BRK trades Irving for Simmons/Maxey/22TOR2nd/23ATL2nd/25CHA2nd
Brooklyn retools with an eye toward youth and defense.
Mills, Harden, Harris, Durant, Simmons
Maxey, Brown, Millsap, Griffin, Aldridge
GSW trades Wiggins/22TOR2nd/25CHA2nd for Green/Curry
Golden State supports their core with a pair of complementary snipers.
Curry, Poole, Green, Green, Looney
Curry, Lee, Iguodala, Porter, Bjelica
PHI trades Simmons/Green/Curry/Maxey/23ATL2nd for Irving/Wiggins
Philadelphia gains tough-nosed scorers to battle the pandem...onium of an NBA schedule.
Irving, Thybulle, Wiggins, Harris, Embiid
Milton, Springer, Korkmaz, Reed, Drummond

In a worst case scenario, I could see Nets trading for a disgruntled KAT. That would give them the star big they need to shut Davis down.

KAT is a terrible defender but he would be a great fit offensively.

Not interested, even though Simmons is a good, but very expensive point center.

Almost any of these trades are close to a heart-beep 'yes!' from me.
The issue is not Kyrie's talent or spirit. He's a great guy IMO.
The issue is that you just never know what this kid is thinking, when he's going to check out for this or that, when he's going to create new, unexpected drama, drama...
Yeah, please just give me a healthy KD and Beard, plus some role-players. That's all we'll ever need...

Re: If Push Came to Shove... (Irving Trade)
Simmons is a horrible fit here and honestly after what I saw versus the Hawks, I would never want him here. This guy's game hasn't improved at all, he's the same player that he was his rookie year.
I like Kyrie, but I yall already know my feelings about covid and how serious I take it. So if he opts to retire over this issue, more power to him.
However...! None of us have heard anything from him, the team, nor has anyone credible reported on what is happening. So til then, let's not get nuts over this. Kyrie hasn't gone off the rails like Andrew Wiggins, who has made a complete ass out of himself. Let's wait and see.

if someone doesnt want the vaccine, there are some (very few) reasons that to me are acceptable. all but i believe pfizer are not fully FDA approved. these are the first mRNA vaccines. even if the science is there, being ignorant to something new isn't really something i would codemn. And if there are religious/cultural reasons its hard for me to take a hard stance vs that even though i think most religious based exceptions are just herd ignorance.
I also think there is a big difference between: "i dont want to get vaccinated" and "vaccines dont work, government is micro chipping you, etc"
I'll wait it out. i assume if he doesnt want it he will try the state on a religious excpetion then probably sit a few games before caving a bit (see nike kyrie 8 spat) or going full space cadet and skipping home games or taking a hiatus to persure social issues (i woudlnt fault him on the ladder)
The problem with someone like kyrie is you dont get to pick and choose. dude is going to be unapologetically real. and its hard when someone of native american heritage is anti establishment and asking them to get in line... cause of the whole genocide thing.

Since when did vaccine became a new thing? If anything history tells us vaccines saved billion of lives and exterminated dozen of deadly diseases. If you consider hypocrites and let's say very uneducated people as sober minded opinion than its just laughable.
2- if some think Kyrie is strange in a different way than what is Ben? You don't trade franchise player talent like Kyrie at any circumstances unless they become disgruntled period.
3- Kyrie won't get religious exemption. Muslim countries if anything asking for vaccines for their citizens. In musks they actually encourage their comers to get vaccinated when opportunity come, thats why we don't hear any crap.
4- this entire thread is a joke. Our own fans actually discussing Kyrie? The same guy who was born here!!! The same guy who actually made us legit!!! I'm really tempted to report this thread as a troll attempt.

Re: If Push Came to Shove... (Irving Trade)
Last thing I would want to see is Nets stuck with a player that not only can’t shoot but refuses to shoot the ball. Then there’s the inevitable hack a Simmons to enjoy at the end of games. With all of Kyries quirks he is a bonafide scorer and a sensation to watch. Simmons might be an excellent defender and helps in the regular season but his post playoff record speaks for itself. Thankfully this trade talk is just media clickbait.

At this point, billions of doses have been delivered and the medical concensus is that all three vaccines are safe and effective at protecting people from hospitalization and death from the virus.
I could understand vaccine hesitancy back in January. A lot of Black folks took a wait and see approach because we didn't want to be guinea pigs. As the evidence mounted that the vaccine was safe and worked, the vaccinated rate among Black Americans went up. That was absolutely fine.
But it's about to be October, where the virus is going to thrive in the cooler weather, and there is zero evidence that backs up any fears about any of the three vaccines. At this point, "I don't want to be vaccinated" amounts to "I don't care if I die, I don't care if I infect others, and I don't care about the Healthcare workers who will have to treat me in the event that my selfishness makes me critically ill". I've come to discover that people like this, and this includes my friends and family who i have given up on, only want to intake propaganda that fuels their confirmation bias. Vaccine hesitancy at this point is basically antivax. They're not reading the data or listening to professionals. It is also a dangerous and life threatening position to take. I don't want anyone to die or become a covid long hauler. But folks aren't listening.
We all need to do our part to take care of each other, to protect our children who are still not eligible to be vaccinated yet, and to protect our Healthcare workers who are overwhelmed and psychologically scarred by this pandemic.
Now again, Kyrie hasn't said anything and the team hasn't said anything. So we're going off of the word of a Fox sports reporter whose credibility is debatable. I would just hope that Kyrie, if he is not vaccinated, sits down with actual experts and becomes educated about these vaccines were developed and work.
Forget about basketball for a second, but he also needs to speak with doctors who are seeing unvaccinated people filling ICU beds, and learning what it means if you catch the Delta variant and how it absolutely can destroy you regardless of age and health status.

Re: If Push Came to Shove... (Irving Trade)

Oh we are f*cked. The stuff from Ky's aunt is legit crazy town too. I was hoping that this wasn't the case but this article is damning.
If Kyrie is going go on front of the media tomorrow and do this, the Nets need to tell him not to report. Just don't.
This month, league officials caught a break: Two of America’s most progressive cities, New York and San Francisco, would require pro athletes to show proof of one Covid-19 vaccination dose to play indoors, except with an approved medical or religious exemption. Which meant that one of the NBA’s biggest stars — one known for being receptive to conspiratorial beliefs — would be under heavy pressure to get a shot. And if Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving could be convinced to take the vaccine, then maybe, just maybe, the whole league could create a new kind of bubble together.
When asked directly about Irving’s vaccination status — or his plans to change it — multiple people familiar with his thinking declined to answer directly. But one confidant and family member floated to Rolling Stone the idea of anti-vaxx players skipping home games to dodge the New York City ordinance… or at least threatening to protest them, until the NBA changes its ways.
“There are so many other players outside of him who are opting out, I would like to think they would make a way,” says Kyrie’s aunt, Tyki Irving, who runs the seven-time All-Star’s family foundation and is one of the few people in his regular circle of advisors. “It could be like every third game. So it still gives you a full season of being interactive and being on the court, but with the limitations that they’re, of course, oppressing upon you. There can be some sort of formula where the NBA and the players can come to some sort of agreement.”
A spokeswoman for Irving declined to respond to a list of questions regarding his vaccination and playing status, and Irving did not immediately respond to a message from Rolling Stone. But as teams return to pre-season training camps next week, fifty to sixty NBA players have yet to receive a single vaccine dose, league sources tell RS. Most are considered merely reluctant skeptics. Some of the holdouts, however, amount to their own shadow roster of anti-vaxxers mounting a behind-the-scenes resistance to Covid protocols — and the truth.
Irving, who serves as a vice president on the executive committee of the players’ union, recently started following and liking Instagram posts from a conspiracy theorist who claims that “secret societies” are implanting vaccines in a plot to connect Black people to a master computer for “a plan of Satan.”
Oh we are f*cked. The stuff from Ky's aunt is legit crazy town too. I was hoping that this wasn't the case but this article is damning.
Irving’s aunt expected him to discuss vaccine hesitancy in the Black community, as well as the tragic experiments on sharecroppers in Tuskegee, while “providing just as much knowledge and research base that you necessarily don’t have to take this vaccine — some of it is fake news, some of it is fake information, some of it is Doctor False-y, you don’t really know.”
If Kyrie is going go on front of the media tomorrow and do this, the Nets need to tell him not to report. Just don't.

Yeah this is not going to end well for us. If he is going to miss home games by taking the anti-vax stand he has to be released. This is serious.

Retire seems kind of riddiculous. he is 29 coming off the best season in nets history. the pandemic wont last forever. maybe he takes a hiatus. maybe he plays part of the year. or maybe he caves.
cutting or retiring is crazy.
more likely, he uses it as a platform. protests 8-10 home games talking about how blacks have been targeted by the medical system in the past. loses his religious appeal, then caves and gets the vaccine

No, he's too valuable to cut. Either you trade him or you suspend him.
Kyrie doesn't seem like the type of guy to cave. If he doesn't get vaccinated now, I doubt he'll be willing to a week or two into the season.

Re: If Push Came to Shove... (Irving Trade)
He has a contract which means he has to play in order to honor it if he is physically capable of playing. He’s not being paid to miss more than half the games. The NBA needs to figure out what to do with the contract if they prevent a player from honoring it based on new legislation. This is nuts cause I think Kyrie is the kind of person that doesn’t budge once he takes a stand. Please god guide this man to do what is right and get the vaccine Please …

Bro, you know I'm Black...and I'm going to tell you that is complete bull ****. Yes, we have been abused by the medical system, but this dude is out here liking Instagram posts talking about the vaccine is going to microchip us for Satanic purposes. He is off his rocker with this stuff.
This isn't about systemic racism in American medicine, it is about absolute horse sh*t.
By supporting stuff like this, he is also supporting antivax and vaccine hesitancy in Black communities among younger folks who follow him. What he's doing is dangerous.
I can't give Kyrie a pass on this. People are dying. Covid has killed so many Black and Brown people that it's unconscionable to hold an insane position like that.
