Non-Rolling Trade Challenge -- Forward Thinking in Minnesota
Former poster, DocRI had a great series for dead periods like this that he called the Rolling Trade Challenge. I'm essentially stealing his idea, but making it less formal without a voting process or a "winner". Just would like to present something on a much smaller scale than the current 1/4 pole blockbusters for anyone interested.
This first challenge involves the Timberwolves. Long stretch of mediocrity interrupted only by the one Jimmy Butler year, and just had to fire their GM under a cloud of issues. New governors are on their way which should bring some hope, but they need more and need it now.
They have some talent in Towns and Edwards and to a lessor degree I suppose Beasley and Russell. Our Wolves fanbase are also super excited about the potential of McDaniels and maybe as soon as this year.
So my challenge to you is to bring in a legit starting-caliber forward to plug right into the starting lineup without trading any of Towns, Edwards, or McDaniels.
The aim here is realism. Giannis would be amazing obviously. Or Tatum. This isn't about imagining a scenario where that happens. This is hopefully anyway about a player who could conceivably be had who is good and complements their existing core.

Re: Non-Rolling Trade Challenge -- Forward Thinking in Minnesota
Think Memphis could be a partner. Anderson could be valued a bit higher than MIN would like to pay, but could work. I’d like Clarke as a low risk play.
Maybe there’s a super funny 3 team trade with Wiggins/Dlo involved.
Edit: on 2nd thought, KAT might kill Wiggins, so there’s nothing there

Might belong in the Simmons thread but what about;
Beasley, Prince, small value (strongly protected first or Reid) for Barnes and Bagley
Simmons ends up in Sacramento. Minnesota hopes for Bagley development, but adds a great fitting Barnes.

I guess it depends on what the rest of the Simmons deal looks like, I could see Philly preferring Barnes over Beasley in some scenarios and Beasley in others.

Memphis could do something like Anderson and the worst of the Utah/LAL 1st for the Minny top 10 protected 1st. If Minny thinks they are a playoff team then they are giving up a pick at 15+ for Anderson and a pick that is likely 25+.

Re: Non-Rolling Trade Challenge -- Forward Thinking in Minnesota
Beasley for Kyle Anderson + Brandon Clarke
Minnesota gets a starting caliber combo forward and a power forward prospect who could be a nice fit next to Simmons. Memphis gets a young-enough volume scorer + shooter.

Leave out Clarke (may need some other filler), and I could see it as a decent positional need swap. I don't get why Memphis would add the extra useful guy when they're already sending out the best player in the deal (Anderson).

Re: Non-Rolling Trade Challenge -- Forward Thinking in Minnesota
I think something like…
Okogie+Layman+2nds for either Boucher or JaMychal Green (once he can be traded)
Prince plus a not small but not large asset (more than 2nds, less than a first—maybe a pick swap?) for Thad Young
Layman and 2nds for House (may be too small)
Are a few realistic-ish options. Minnesota could serve well to be a third team in a few potential Thad Young/Ben Simmons trades too. Should should Portland do Simmons for CJ+picks Minnesota could swoop in with a Beasley for Covington type trade. Similarly if Phoenix gets Thad Young and wants to potentially cut long term salary Okogie+Layman+2nds for Crowder could be plausible.

Dont think masai will dump boucher for 2 seconds and scraps. I find it odd you value him and house similarly when boucher was a much more productive player last year

Sorry—I was a little vague on “2nds” (didn’t want minor value tinkering to take away from the ideas). I think House and Boucher are roughly a Josh Okogie and a 2nd apart in terms of trade value though.

Re: Non-Rolling Trade Challenge -- Forward Thinking in Minnesota
Minnesota has the tax space to offer Layman+Okogie for Kuzmaz
I don’t really have Kuzma as positive value but I don’t have Minnesota’s package as very valuable either. Either team could say they are owed a second or two and I wouldn’t care.

The Wolves have less than $1M in space under the luxury tax line and trading Layman+Okogie for Kuzma adds $5M. I can't see Minnesota going over the luxury tax line for Kuzma.

Re: Non-Rolling Trade Challenge -- Forward Thinking in Minnesota
If Minnesota believed in Marvin Bagley going forward as a 3 or 4 next to Towns he could be a potential get.
The ask shouldn't be much from Sacramento. I wouldn't be surprised by a couple of seconds, or a future highly protected first, or Okogie or something like that at this point.

Re: Non-Rolling Trade Challenge -- Forward Thinking in Minnesota
Realistically the best 4 that the Wolves could have is one that can anchor and lead a defense for their side.. They don't need a 4 to come in that will take too many shots away from KAT either.
Vanderbilt is actually a decent option for them and I haven't really seen a significantly better option so far in this thread.
Isaac is the best fit and I think he could be a realistic get.
Isaac for Prince+Nowell+MIN22FRP+MIN24FRP
Magic have Wagner and Okeke coming through and they are still in the market to rebuild through draft. The 2 FRPs helps them and Nowell is a nice young SG prospect. Prince fills a 1 year gap at SF where they currently only have Ross.

Isaac is untradeable. Not because he has no value but because no team is going to pay actual price given his injury history and the Magic aren't going to sell low on one of their best players.

My understanding that he wont get vaccinated. As a result he may not be able to play in certain cities (NY, SF, LA?). Posssbly not a big problem for a team thats not expected to compete for the playoffs. But likely a big problem for a playoff bound team.

As of currently I believe road players can play in all cities except possibly Toronto? It's the home players who can't play in NYC/SF.

In GS that is the case, it’s been reported. Part of it is simply the ability for the state to legislate what it’s local employers can do, not what employers from out of state and wanting to avoid that inevitable lawsuit. Though I’m sure they’ll still get filed suit.

Do you have a link? Trying to find commentary on this.
