Pick One: KAT or Ant
Spent some time on the PHI board and some of them believe they can get Ant for Simmons. I came back to our boards and saw some people suggest we trade KAT and build around Ant and that got me thinking..
If you had to build around one or the other - who do you pick?
EDIT: this isn’t really about timelines. It’s about value.
I found it funny that PHI fans wanted Ant for Simmons in order to convince KAT to stay when I was reading that some fans would rather trade KAT and build around Ant.

Keep both, build around both
Talk of timelines is stupid.

This is the only answer IMO.

Agreed. This is more about value.
If you don’t need a story attached to it then just forget the timelines stuff. I was just using it as a shorthand way to explain why but tbh it’s not about the why.

I agree that keeping both is ideal and highly probable though.

Re: Pick One: KAT or Ant
Ant has great potential but is still unproven. KAT had years of perfect health before two injury filled seasons. If KAT stays healthy he is way more valuable now than Ant. If Ant lives up to his potential then maybe he becomes more valuable than KAT depending on when he does it and how high his ceiling turns out to be. If it sounds like there are a lot of qualifiers and variables in my answer, that is because their are. Ultimately KAT has it in him to be the next KG if he stays and grows with the team, but if he jumps ship then he is just another talented big looking for a super team. We know nothing of Ant’s loyalty or long term plans. We need to win to keep our guys and we need both and then some to win.

Honestly one of the best posts here in a long time. I'm not going to vote in the poll. I'm not going to choose between the two.

Re: Pick One: KAT or Ant
KAT has more value but the team control is also shorter. if you assume a rookie extension for ANT, its 3 yrs vs 8.

Re: Pick One: KAT or Ant
I'm still convinced that an elite guard>>>elite big in today's NBA. So if I had to choose, I would go with Ant. That said, Iam still way higher on KAT than most. His talent is unprecedented IMO. He is the greatest shooting big I have seen, he can score from anywhere. His biggest issue besides defense is his size to me. He just doesn't have the physicality to contend with massive bigs or anchor a defense.
I still think he has room to grow and I still think he is in a league with the best bigs in the game today he just can't play the same way they do and he needs a complementary team around him. Obviously, I keep both and try damn hard to build up around them. You have a great big and you very likely have a great small, that has been a magic formula forever. The last time we had this was KG and Marbury and we blew it.

Re: Pick One: KAT or Ant
I'm pretty confident in saying neither KAT or Ant are going anywhere until next off-season at the earliest. If the team shows significant improvement this year, I think there is a good chance both are in Minnesota for a while. Talk on the Sixers board about getting Ant is little more than wishful thinking.

Jokic and Embiid have a large dispute with your conviction.

I agree 110%!!!!
Unless one guy is toward the end of career and the other is at the beginning this makes no sense to me. Towns is 25, he's got 8-10 good years left. Playing how he plays it might even be more.

Re: Pick One: KAT or Ant
Neither … we need a leader. Talent aside, KAT has proven he is NOT that guy. ANT only has a partial year under his belt, but I do not see clear signs of leadership.
I’m not convinced we have a player on the roster or a person in the front office that is a leader and I think that is the root issue of this franchise.

Re: Pick One: KAT or Ant
This is not even close its clearly Edwards and by a mile.Love Towns who's the 2nd best Timberwolves player in our franchise history but been in the league 6 full seasons now and doesn't have a playoff series win under his belt and his only winning season was when he wasn't the alpha dog and was following Jimmy Bulter's lead.
To me Towns is more and empty stats guy ala just like another good player the wolves had in Kevin Love.Puts up monster numbers but they truly don't matter in the big picture and are clearly the 2nd or 3rd options on true title contending teams.
I wouldn't be at all opposed to trading Towns right now to land another star to pair with Edwards moving forward.Even a lesser player then Towns like Ingram,Brown or even Simmons I would think about trading for as long as we get another player and a 1st round pick or two.

Re: Pick One: KAT or Ant
I know Dane Moore and other sportscasters are stuck on this timeline garbage, but if we keep KAT happy, then we are in good shape keeping everyone.
Ant and McDaniels are young and should improve, but Towns and Russell aren’t old, and they need to improve as well. Financially, it’s even better. We are only paying two of these four max deals, so the cheaper rookie scale deals allow us the financial wiggle room to build a roster around four players.

I understand. I think they have had a better last couple of seasons and I don't have a problem with anyone saying they are better. That said I think they have had opportunities to maximize their talents way more than KAT has. He has never had a team close to what they have had the last 2-3 years. The best team KAT had was the Thiberwolves and that team still isn't as good as the recent Nuggets or Philly teams.

Re: Pick One: KAT or Ant
Some of you guys are missing the point completely.
This wasn’t about “keeping both.” That was purposefully not an option. We are obviously keeping both. That’s not what this info gathering was about.
This was a personal preference - one or the other. I don’t understand why people are fixated on minutiae words like “timeline” - who cares?!
What if the League said “each team can only have one guy with Anthony in his name” and regardless of how stupid the rule is you hafta move one. Which one?

It's Edwards.
More years of control, better potential defensively and the league is just built to accommodate shot generating wings than bigs. Not to mention I prefer Edwards' interviews.

Was going to say the same thing!
People copping out with the “keep both” b/s.
If you could only keep one, with the current state of the team and the guard centric league, which one do you keep?
It’s EASY. Some ppl don’t have the Clive Davis eyes and that’s fine. But just a PSA for that that don’t have CD eyes, ANT is that man that raises a team above water and KAT is that dude that HELPS that guys. Think Lebron AD

Re: Pick One: KAT or Ant
KAT has been crazy loyal to this team and has gone out of his way to say he wants to play for 1 team his whole career.
Ant is locked in but only because he's young & we have him for at least 5+ years if he turns out to be great.
We need to start winning right now, idc how young Ant is, the longer you keep both guys, the greater chance we have to winning it all if you can be smart with the pieces around them.
