I see Daniel Oturu was waived by Memphis and signed a "camp deal" with Chicago per the realgm story headline.

If he doesn't land on a team's roster, is there a way we can give him a 2-way contract? I don't know the rules for that, but would rather have him than Knight. Oturu would provide a lot of insurance on this roster. I would say we should add him to our 15-man roster, but don't think we have enough luxury tax space to sign him, even on a minimum, but I could be wrong about that.

I guess I just don't understand what our plan is if, say, Reid is out for like a month (knock on wood that doesn't happen). Vando playing significant minutes at the 5 scares me. I guess Knight is the backup backup plan, but I don't find that appealing at all. From what I saw in summer league, I don't think Knight can play any minutes at the 5 -- a kamikaze-like presence at the 4, maybe, but don't think he is a NBA center. Oturu, on the other hand, I think would at least be serviceable around the rim.

But here's the one caveat. I haven't seen Oturu play a single minute in the NBA or summer league. I have no idea how or if his game has transitioned at all in pros. This is all projection based on what I saw of him in college, so definitely don't want to come across as an expert here.

I do know that if we are dealing with two paths right now -- one where we acquire Simmons and one where we stand pat and try to compete for a play-in spot. Both scenarios we are still thin at center. And if we do move for Simmons, it will require us to send out a few players, one of whom will likely be expected to play significant minutes at the 4 this year. Now, Simmons will essentially be a PF on our team, so we are getting a big back, but there's a good chance that in a Simmons trade we will fall below the 13-player roster minimum, which means Gupta will have to get creative if he hopes to stay below the luxury tax.

All I'm saying is that if we trade for Simmons, I would like to see Oturu on the roster on a minimum contract as our emergency big/playing the Ed Davis role. If we don't trade for Simmons, wonder if we can swap the 2-way designation with Knight.

I am eyeing the possibility we move Bolmaro, but that's for another post.

For Philly this is now all about clearing the deck for Embiid. Making him happy and optimistic about season 2021/22.

Simmons will be traded in next 48 hours.

Eh, the time to pay the piper was always coming for them. Same as anyone else in that situation. So I can't blame them too much.

I think they, like probably we are as well with the potential Simmons trade, are banking on the cap increase to make deals look better.

Also if you recall, when Mike Malone got fired from the Kings, Flip invited him to hang around the Timberwolves staff to get him involved in the game again. It was a cool feature so Mike is probably paying it forward.

Just found a part of an article talking about it.

The two knew each other as all coaches in the NBA fraternity do, but not well. Saunders called, inviting him to join the Wolves on a couple of West Coast trips so Malone could be back around the game and give his opinions about Saunders’ team.

“It meant the world,” said Malone, the son of longtime NBA coach Brendan Malone but a man who called himself, like Saunders, a self-made coach. “It wasn’t like we went back years. Two weeks after I get fired and Flip Saunders is extending an invitation to me to spend time with him and his staff. That doesn’t happen very often.”

Saunders told Malone he called because he had been fired three times – in Minnesota, Detroit and Washington, from every NBA coaching job he ever had – and told him something about the experiences.

“You hear from everybody a day or two after you’ve been fired and two weeks later, no one is calling you,” Malone said. “Life goes on after you’re fired. I don't want a pity party, I don't want people calling me every day anyway. But Flip called…”

Andrew Wiggins got vaccinated just like I knew he would. His statement was that he wouldn't get vaccinated unless they forced him too. They forced him too.
The NBA players association has agreed to docking pay whenever a player misses a game due to vaccination status.
Kyrie Irving remains unvaccinated.

Apparently forfeiting $16M in salary this season was enough motivation for him to finish his vaccine research. :D

So glad we don’t have to worry about Wiggins being on this team.

Looks like suns are hesitating right now with paying Ayton. Any chance they don't pay him the max or is this just posturing?

Vaccinations are a personal decision. His motivations in either direction and him simply living his life doesn't affect you and you shouldn't care. No person has any more claim to this planet than any other. As someone who can't get vaccinated, I would never blame someone for their vaccination status or believe in any way they have any personal responsibility in any possible bad outcome I might experience. People who can and have been vaccinated and their opinions on others lives earn little respect from this guy.

Please don't lecture me on COVID or vaccination. I couldn't care less about what choices people make because it's a personal decision. I didn't get vaccinated merely to protect myself...I did it to help protect the people around me, especially those with underlying conditions.

My comment was meant as a joke but it also was meant to show that when it came to Wiggins' decision, money clearly took priority over his personal beliefs about the vaccine. I'm sure his team mates appreciated it, though, too.

It was just a general statement. You were not the target of it.

We're all good...I have a friend that also can't get the vaccine due to a medical condition so I understand the predicament you're in and hope you stay safe.

1. Wiggins just cemented that he is a huge idiot. He had a bad reaction to Tylenol? So he doesn’t want a vaccine? Good riddance.

2. Yes others decision to get vaccinated or not does impact everyone else. If other people aren’t able to get emergency room services because a bunch of unvaccinated people are using up the services that impacts everyone else. We have already seen preventable deaths because of this.
