I don't understand. Why are teams waiting for today? He's been on the market for months and we've known he's not going to show up today for almost as long.

I don't understand NBA front offices sometimes.

Because the positions were pure posturing until today. You lob lowball offers in hoping that the Sixers are in panic mode and will take it. If the Sixers are officially dug in and if you want Simmons on your roster sooner rather than later, you would have to give a more reasonable offer. At least thats my assumption.

So Dane Moore (or less) covers the Timberwolves for some podcast. Sounds like an insider! I prefer friend of Ben's brother from Austrialia who had Ben traded to Denver.

My guess is someone surprising like Joe.

My money is on Maxey casually saying something about Paul or revealing a conversation he had with Ben.

Teams know the 1st is on Friday they will try get better deal with that in mind. It will be interesting to see what offers are made and leaked. For instance we take on bens full contract we get maxey in the deal talk. Just example.

What are you talking about? If Ben Simmons is a negative asset as you suggest, they're not going to trade him at all.

Its about team gouging more for ben if they willing pay his full contract. Take Portland for example if they are willing to take on bens contract before the first they can be more demanding what's coming with trading for ben + another asset , they wouldn't get if they only had to pay half his contract. If were the owner of 76ers would you want pay half of bens contract at the very least or trade him before the 1st where you don't have to pay him half his contract.

I have no idea what this guy is getting at. Can anyone explain this to me? Why would Portland be paying Ben's salary and the salary of the players going out?

Where have you been hearing this particular detail?

Its example. The idea is pay ben's full contract getting another piece for your team ..If a team can get maxey because they paid for Bens full contract , its worth it. If they wait until after the 1st they can no longer use that bargaining tactic.

I had no idea about this October first deadline thing. You're saying that if a player in on your roster before October 1st, you're responsible for paying him his entire salary, but if you trade for him after the 1st, you only have to pay him half? Even if it's October 2nd? If that's the case, wouldn't the Sixers just end up paying the full salary of whoever they take back in any deal before the 1st?

I assume he is alluding to installment payments in Simmons's contract, which it appears that 25% of his yearly salary is due on Oct. 1. That's a little over 8 million - in other words, not going to be a factor whatsoever. That money is getting paid regardless.

I do give Doc the benefit of the doubt here, although I dislike the man. He defended Ben all year.

If the 76ers trade ben before the first they do not have to pay half of his contract which is due on Oct 1. They get out of paying Bens contract all together IF he is traded BEFORE OCT 1.. If they trade him on the 2nd the 76ers owe Ben Simmons half of his contract. The team they trade him to would pay the other half of his deal.

As owner would you rather pay half his contract after the 1st or not have to pay him at all? If you can get out his deal wouldn't you prefer that?
