Take the vax/anti vax debate to the general board, there's plenty of it there.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Yes, but he might be diminished by that point.

Re: ATL - Camps Open 9/28
Zion and foot injuries is a real worry so early into his career. If he can develop his game to not have to always rely on explosiveness then that mitigates the issue slightly, but being so young, there's big red flags about hw many games a season he'll actually get through.

During draft time I never thought Zion could last to a long NBA career. That body of his and his game just never seemed to equal longetivity to me. Ja Morant was #1 overall to me only for that reason.

Am I missing something on the Michael Porter jr contract?
That seems like a premature overpay.

I'd be nervous giving him this kind of deal given the injury history and the way he's been targeted in the playoffs, but the case supporting it is pretty simple.
1. Basically gave them 20 points a game on all-time great efficiency and got better as he took on a larger role.
2. Has performed like one of the best shooters in NBA history so far.
3. Just turned 23.
4. Denver doesn't plan on having cap space any time soon.
5. Can't remember how max contracts work when the cap spikes, but there's potentially another massive cap spike on the horizon so maybe they save some money by locking him in now?

I'm not a big Porter fan, but him, Murray and Jokic are a legit core right now. They'll have to churn the roster over often due to the cap, but that's easier to do than getting a third pillar.
Still, I feel about Porter much the way I do about Collins. I'd rather pay Porter than Collins but I think both offer an excess of empty calories.

Porter's the perfect 2nd/3rd guy if he ever gets his defense to a competent level. You just have to hope that he's a fixable defender ala Ayton or Tatum, and not a "they don't pay me to play defense" type guy like Jabari or Zach LaVine.

Levert has had some really bad luck:

machu46 laid it out pretty well. The only thing I'd add to what he said is that I assume Denver has put all sorts of games played benchmarks into the contract to protect themselves against his back injury becoming more debilitating.

Based on his general lack of self-awareness and the fact that the Porters are made of glass, I'd say he's much more likely to fit in the latter category.

Porter's brain history and injury history scare the **** out of me, but there's no question he can find space and score.

My exact feeling about him. The talent is obvious but man the red flags are very real.emunney wrote:Porter's brain history and injury history scare the **** out of me, but there's no question he can find space and score.
He was hunted by the Suns in that playoff series as bad as I've ever seen a defender hunted. Feel like it will be an inflection point where he either realizes he needs to get better to prevent that or it's the blueprint every team uses when the face the nugz in a series.

The John Collins analogy is a good one. Agreed that I like Porter much more than Collins, but both feel like they're in that Tobias Harris zone.
I think a GM with real guts might have made him wait until next summer, when he's restricted anyways. Make him prove he can stay healthy and do this more than one year.

I know they have to do it, but is Ayton on a max contract a good idea?

Re: ATL - Camps Open 9/28
I'd have traded Porter for Harden. That was one of the rumoured deals Houston was seeking when Harden hit the market last year. But anyway.
He's very talented, but has no interest in defence and can be quite selfish as a player. If I had to bet, I'd say Denver regrets that deal in a few years from now.
In saying that, it was the right move for Denver to make.

The tough thing is all three of their stars are bad at defending.
still learning the game

Re: ATL - Camps Open 9/28
After winning this year my view on overpays or is a player worth a max has changed a lot. Contenders have to go all in and lock down their cores, locking up Ayton or Porter Jr is absolutely the right move. You worry about the financial stuff down the line and go on a memorable run.
I like them both but it’s no way anybody is excited about paying Jrue and Khris 70 million over the next 3 years, but winning and the idea of winning a lot of games for the next year or two makes them worth those contracts and that’s how I imagine nuggets front office is thinking or the suns front office is thinking.
