Yeah lol good luck.
To be clear these are public health supported concepts but enforcing this feels… difficult

I thought there was some chatter/rumor early last season that Tristan Thompson wasn't the most disciplined about staying safe and minimizing exposure to the public. He eventually got it together and was more available to play.

Along with other things, Zach Lowe with his (and Bontempts) takes on Simmons situation. Kinda interesting as its pretty opposite Ramona.

Absolutely 100% as it should be. Choices have consequences so I don't want to hear from the anti-vax crowd about how this is unfair in any way.

Lowe's statement that other owners will go to Silver to tell him that this cannot be allowed to happen (a player signed for that many years holding out) is interesting. It's not unexpected and makes sense why this would terrify small market teams because it essentially destroys the whole purpose of the way rookie contracts are structured. What is to prevent a No. 1 pick from signing and then refusing to report unless he is traded?
The real question is what can Silver do. He could suspend Simmons without pay for the duration but is that really so different than what is already happening? Sure, he could disqualify Simmons from the league which you'd think would stop anyone else from ever doing it but not exactly a great outcome for the Sixers.

I think one potential solution is if Simmons wants to sit out the year, cool. He doesn't get paid and his contract gets paused meaning this time next year he still has 4 years remaining on his deal. Meaning if Simmons wants to play in the NBA/get paid he has to report to the Sixers.
I'd expect the PA to fight that pretty hard, but it would solve this issue because Simmons or another player like him is very unlikely to be willing to just punt their entire career.
I actually don't think its going to come to this because it only takes one smart team to just offer something reasonable and as you put it--get Ben Simmons for 50 cents on the dollar rather than trying to pay a nickel.

Yeah, I think you've hit the solution. Freeze his contract and service time.

Re: Thoughts in General, Rumors, etc 4.0
I was under the impression that's already in the cba but may be wrong. Owners agreed to the cba that has rules for this. That's the whole point of collective bargaining. Owners have no leg to stand on, asking for some kind of punishment or Silver intervention. Everything here is technically allowed via the Cba. If he's willing to accept the punishment laid out there, he's just following protocols the owners agreed to, periodBullyKing wrote:Texas Chuck wrote:BullyKing wrote:

Can they do that? When's the last time that's happened? If they do that does that still count against 76ers cap?

if it gets them out bens contract it is!For real that would be a win for 76ers as well.
How exactly? They don't want to trade him for a reduced return (I think that ship has sailed and is half way around the world already).
How does Ben not playing for the Sixers, but also not being paid by the Sixers, actually get them closer to the return they want?
How does forcing Ben back into a locker room he doesn't want to be in help the Sixers or get them closer to the return they want?
(I've argued for months now he's low key doing them a favor by not reporting)
If the goal is to stop players from demanding trades in the future and refusing to report (which they should do pursuant to their contracts), I can squint and see it. If the goal is to get the Sixers a better return, then this ain't it.

They don’t have to pay him anything at all , they get rid of him all together . Look offers haven’t been flying in for him . At least abort the whole mission … move on use that cap on another player. If that’s the case .. which it should be sense his years are frozen and his salary is frozen? He would never play basketball again .

Because it allows teams to confront the player with a fairly binary choice - show up or retire. The idea of running out the contract is no longer there.
