How exactly? They don't want to trade him for a reduced return (I think that ship has sailed and is half way around the world already).

How does Ben not playing for the Sixers, but also not being paid by the Sixers, actually get them closer to the return they want?

How does forcing Ben back into a locker room he doesn't want to be in help the Sixers or get them closer to the return they want?

(I've argued for months now he's low key doing them a favor by not reporting)

If the goal is to stop players from demanding trades in the future and refusing to report (which they should do pursuant to their contracts), I can squint and see it. If the goal is to get the Sixers a better return, then this ain't it.

They don’t have to pay him anything at all , they get rid of him all together . Look offers haven’t been flying in for him . At least abort the whole mission … move on use that cap on another player.

Setting aside the fact that there's no one to sign, what if he reports?

If that’s the case .. which it should be sense his years are frozen and his salary is frozen? He would never play basketball again .

No cap space either way, that would be awful for the sixers

oh they just trade him before this gets out of hand its already made talk show rounds for the 20th time this week.. Plus give joel a real chance to win title . His time his now. Getting nothing for him does not help the 76ers win today. Today is what they want right?

What's the current pick/prospect price for OKC to eat Wiggins (say with Favors to GS)?
I bought a boat.

I'm not sure how that is in anyway a *solution.*

Because it allows teams to confront the player with a fairly binary choice - show up or retire. The idea of running out the contract is no longer there.

Setting aside the fact that Ben could play in Europe and get paid, let's say he takes the choice of showing up and playing uninspired ball and answers every question with *I'm contractually obligated to be here, so I'm here. I have no further comment beyond that.*

Is that better or worse for the Sixers in terms of increasing his trade value?

This isn't true. You need clearance that you are not under contract to sign in Europe, or China, or the NBA, or even the Gleague.

Okay, but the underlying point is that the Sixers need Simmons to do more than just report as Harden did. They need him to report and buy in.

if feel like if they dont win this year because kyrie doesnt get vaxxed hes gone for sure. Does he want waste time with player who isnt serious about winning? If they don't get finals I could see him looking at other teams.

I think the impact of the press conferences have been overblown tbh. That's something that can usually be worked out. The issue with some players, e.g., Kyrie, is that once they've learned you're willing to trade them, or even open to trading them, their ego can't handle it. Both Philly and Simmons want a separation because a separation is at least arguably overdue. The only dispute is over when and the return the Sixers will get. Ben knows he's being asked to endure a very uncomfortable situation for the sole purpose of improving his trade value when it's anything but certain that him returning will improve his trade value. He doesn't want to endure what he'll have to endure for that reason. He should do it anyway because he's contractually obligated, and that's just part of being an adult, but I get that part of it.

If things evolve with Harden to a Sign & Trade, the hard cap could be an issue for several teams.

Like Kawhi last year and Davis the year before, this is very unlikely Harden leave the nets after this year.

The fundamental problems are that Ben and Embiid are less than an ideal pairing in the post season and everyone knows that; Ben's offensive game hasn't improved over the course of his career, and everyone knows that; the Sixers only want Ben back to try to pump up his trade value, and everyone knows that; Ben doesn't want to come back to Philly, and everyone knows that; and, finally, Ben returning to Philly seems, at best, uncertain to improve his trade value at this point.

The Sixers want Ben to come back and play until some other team's circumstances makes that team desperate enough to offer more. The problem from Ben's perspective is that it's going to really suck for him waiting for that to happen, and there's no guarantee that it will happen.

To a certain extent, the bomb already went off, Morey tried to superglue the pieces back together, and then convince everyone there was no bomb.
