Ehh, I think this whole paradigm is the problem. It's not like a space that you get into and out of, it's an act that you either continually do or stop doing. "Falling out of love" isn't some extrinsic event outside the bounds of human understanding, it just means that there are probably a lot of positive things that both people have stopped *doing*. Or negative things they've started doing.

IOW: we talk about doing things for someone else as a way to show someone you love them, but imho that itself is the love. You've got to be able to have an honest conversation with someone about what those things are or should be. Therapy (individual and couples) can help with this. My two cents.

Easily the best decision I've ever made.

Painful at the time, of course, but clearly the right move for me.

It’s always the right move. Even if you and your spouse are considering it. Then it should be done!

I almost posted this NYT article here but didn’t get around to it. I was reading along already thinking how crazy it sounded, then Lasry popped up.

I forgot that Frank Caliendo does a great Norm. Just hearing the voice, even if it's not really Norm, makes me crack up.

Can confirm.

Yeah, never understood the appeal of LA. Like sure, maybe if you are young rich and famous LA is cool to live in, but if you fit that category why not go somewhere better? Traffic, weird layout, the people, smog etc. San Diego is 10x better.

To be honest, I've never once in my life considered LA a vacation destination. Doesn't seem like that kind of city, and if I'm going to the West Coast there are other just as expensive spots more convenient for tourism with cooler sights.

LA was fine. It was fun to go to a couple show tapings, do a studio tour, hike, Hollywood Bowl. I'd never want to live there, though, and don't see too much reason to go back.

San Diego is great. If you happen to be in LA on business Santa Monica pier is nice, Dodger stadium for a ballgame, the Sony and/or Universal studio tours are fun, Malibu but as already said I wouldn't go to LA as a destination for a vacation.

I did the Pacific coast highway, from Seattle to San Diego. Took a long time, lots of great stops on the PCL. Don't go if you don't have the time to really enjoy it. Go north to south.

Oh, Santa Monica is great. I suppose that's "LA" still, but I have associated it differently in my mind. That's where we've stayed when going out for the Rose Bowls, and it feels much different to me than LA. Pier is great, beach is great, the promenade is great.

Yea, I've always enjoyed LA. But yea I'm sure my perspective is skewed as I've spent the vast majority of my time in Santa Monica and Venice, some of the nicer spots. Could easily live in those more 'chill' areas. But yea financially it's ridiculous. For a week or two at a time though I'm down.

Yea we stayed right in the heart of LA, a block or two from the Staples Center. My wife works with a lot of fashion models so this is right up her wheelhouse. I guess my big thing is if given the choice, I'm picking almost anywhere else to go on vacation.

San Diego is one of my favorite places in the US. Probably one of the few places I'd actually consider moving to.

What I learned over the last 2 months through introspection is that this is the most important thing in my life, even more than my career.

RGM fam, asking you all to pour one or light one again. 2 weeks ago my cat had a stroke. She spent over 24 hours in the animal hospital despite my "suggestion" of maybe it being her time. She passed away on me this morning after a rough couple weeks. At least she got to be home with me and my other little dude.

It happens. But a few months ago I posted here around Thanksgiving about one of my best friends with cancer. He's out of treatment options and arranged for in-home hospice. We haven't talked for almost a week. His wife got a hold of me the other day, and now I'm looking at one way flights to Texas to be with him and his family.

So, there's almost a weird sense of relief with my cat. She was pretty immobile and was needing medication for her thyroid every 12 hours. I didn't know what I was going to do, short of leaving her with someone else while I'm gone, and putting just that much more stress on her. But nonetheless, I'm kind of a mess right now, dudes.

Really sorry to hear that. I like cats (generally speaking, dogs too) more than all but a few people. It's so devastating to go through that. My last two cats each died of cancer, and the treatment leading up to their deaths was mentally - and, honestly, physically - exhausting. A distraction can be good, but not this kind obviously. Try to remember to take care of yourself, too.

It's ALWAYS hard to lose a pet, even if you know it's the best thing due to age/medical condition/suffering. Very very sorry to hear this.
