OT: Giants 2021

Facing Bumgarner tonight, you know he's not going down easily (already beat us last month), meanwhile the Dodgers are facing a guy with a 6+ ERA so there's a really good chance we're looking at only a 1 game lead tomorrow.

Maybe that was the Padres' making a clear statement that they are just mailing it in the rest of the way? Maybe we can sweep them and make whatever the Dodgers do irrelevant.

Well Tatis didn't start but then came on as a PH in the 9th inning and I think swung at 3 pitches from Janssen and struck out.

Yeah please rest Tatis, Machado, etc.

I am not much of the conspiracy theorist unless I clearly see one. But the second Dodgers vs Padres game specifically made me really stop and at least think about one. It is like SD on its own or in conjunction with the MLB decided to throw the game to prolong the division uncertainty. And should the Giants win it, they will have to earn it on their own all the way to the end. Firstly, that Dodger chase prolongs a lot of interest and excitement. If they would have lost that game, it would have been practically over and a lot of interest would have been lost. Secondly, I believe MLB very much prefers the Dodgers winning the division to prolong their stay in the playoffs and get to the WS. The WC game being winner takes all is never a certainty, regardless of the talent disparity.

Great win tonight for the Giants. Disappointed that the Brewers couldn't hold a 5-1 lead against the Dodgers; guess we'll just have to win it ourselves and not worry about whether the Dodgers win or lose. Really like what Doval is doing with the closer role so far!

If Dave Roberts was smart he'd rest both Buehler and Urias for these last two games as the Giants only need to win one more to clinch. That way he'd have both his aces ready for the Cardinals and game 1 against the Giants respectively. If they go all out to win the Division starting those two, chances are they wouldn't have either available for the far more important and likely playin and playoff games.

He's got Scherzer too.

Dodgers beat reporters were predicting that they would win the pennant but not the WS. They did note that Urias' velocity has been down in recent games.

Geez that fricking trade. Not only Scherzer but Turner has been lights out since the trade, has really boosted their offense.

Scherzer had a poor showing his last game, and Roberts said Scherzer is going to pitch the wild card game, so he'd likely be available only once in the division series. Kershaw is likely not coming back. Buehler has faded the last month. Their rotation is still really good, but it's not the murderer's row that it looked like it might be.

Dodgers might not even make it to the division series. The Cards might be the tougher opponent right now.

Whatever happens, it's been an awesome season. MLB needs to revoke voting rights for anyone who doesn't vote Kapler as manager of the year. The guy has been a magician with how he's juggled lineups and pitchers. It seems like every player has stepped up. It's a fun mix of old mainstays, vet pickups, and young guys. Such a fun group.

Everything has gone right. Giants lead the majors in 1-run games record, 31-16 or something like that.

Way ahead of the second best team in 1-run games.

Often, a team does great in 1-run games one season but then the averages catch up to them the next season.

Not really. Seattle is 33-18 in one run games.

From the Giants perspective, I don't want them to win it early and relax, I want them to stay engaged and hungry as long as possible. There's always the argument you want to go into the playoffs well rested but I think there's a downside to that, you want the mentality that every game is important and nothing should be taken for granted.

Either they win it today or tomorrow.

If they lose both games, then they play Monday.

Brewers took out their ace after 2 innings.

He gave up 3 runs in the first inning but pulled him after just two innings.

Was it to preserve him winning the ERA title?

Or maybe prevent him from getting crushed or blown out?

Seems fishy.

Great game today at the park - beautiful weather and once we had the 11-1 lead I could just sit back and relax without heart palpitations. A career day for Logan Webb and the standing ovation for him when he came out of the game had a playoff-type of electricity in it.

Thrilled that we clinched on the last day of the season so that Dave Roberts felt compelled to start his two aces the last two games. If they get past the Cards will he start Urias and Buehler for games 1 and 2 on 4 days rest each?

When your staff has the guy that led MLB in wins (Uriah with 20), the guy with the third most wins (Buehler with 16) and the guy with the next most wins (Scherzer with 15), you have three legit aces that you can mix and match based on lineups. Three aces on one staff makes it feel more like an All Star team rather than an actual team. I know the Cards have been the hottest team down the stretch, but I think I'd rather take my chances against them than dealing with those three aces in a short series.

Of course I want to see the Cards beat them.

But they also had Muncy get injured so they may be more vulnerable at least for about a week.

Brewers showed nothing in the series.

I am rooting hard for the Card. First of all, I don't care who eliminates the freaking Dodger, I salute them. And to tell the truth, I am more concerned with how they started mashing the ball and scoring runs in September. More so than their pitching.

I love that the Giants set their all time record with 107 wins when the Dodgers set their record with 106 wins and they didn't win the West.

I also wish we were pre-wild card so they could take their 106 wins home right now rather than after 1 more game.
