My two cents. I get both of your takes here. That's generally my take on Sopranos, fine/good but not phenomenal so don't blame you for moving on.

However, for BB. I agree with your season 1 take. I was one who watched season 1 when it came out and I was completely bored and quit the show. Too much down time in the hospital, etc. Then as it blew up the next few years and got the hype, I said I thought it was boring and didn't bother. But I eventually did do it all to catch up before the last season and it was the right decision. Think of season 1 as the setup, and then it takes off. I'd highly recommend going back and doing it. It totally lives up to the hype as an all timer show and the slowness you probably didn't like in season 1 really goes away.

Agreed! I watched season 1 and didn’t get the hype. A few years later I watched the rest of the series and loved it.

Being a "mob" show is not what made the Sopranos great, nor is that a true descriptor for it.

Tony Soprano is the greatest and most complex antihero I'm aware of in any art form, certainly television. It's an extremely intelligent show.

Have you guys talked about Sex Education at all on Netflix? The wife and I are really enjoying that show lately. I never heard about it until about like 3 weeks ago but it has 3 seasons already.

Bah, the Sopranos movie. What a disappointment.

Spoiler:
Had assumed from all the previews and hype that Gandolfini's son would be the main character, and we'd explore his upbringing and development through his eyes. Instead his scenes seemed forced and few. Just him with that stupid smile as he'd look on in the background.

In the meantime, I couldn't figure out which plot the creators wanted us to follow. Was it Moltisanti's back story, the civil rights unrest, Uncle Junior and Livia having an affair, the backstory of the jailed uncle, etc, etc. Then the Italian woman ends up sleeping with everyone and is finally drowned. There was just too much crap being quickly force fed, and no ability for us to learn about any of these characters.

Frustrating too, as I think a movie where they focused on Tony would have been fantastic.

 Wow some really tough critics in here, goddamn

Ironically watching The Sopranos right now, just finished Season 2 last night. Having a blast so far, hard to control myself and stop.

OMG, those might be my 2 favorite series' of all time. Don't give up on the Sopranos even if the entire first season doesn't hook ya. Though it's possible my view is jaded from having crazy relatives from the NJ/NY areas.

Agreed. Probably better as a 6 part mini series. But Chase wanted to do a "theatrical movie" so he jammed in all he could. I guess they are set up for another movie focusing on Tony and maybe that was the plan.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Looking for two Norm SNL skits. Much obliged to anybody who can help locate them.

1) Was a game show called "Who's More Grizzled?" Garth Brooks and Robert Duvall would answer Norm's questions and the judges would determine whose response was more grizzled.

ETA: Go to 41:08 here: https://archive.org/details/saturday-night-live-s-23-e-14-garth-brooks

2) Stallone comes to Norm's aid after a car accident and Norm's character keeps insulting Stallone's filmography.

ETA: Here's 2) https://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/bad-stallone-movies/n11010, but it's not playing for me.

Definitely intrigued by this. The first few years, before stoned Ragnar, of the original were great but then like a lot of shows it went downhill. I'm always a sucker for anything set in this type of time period though, so I'll give it a watch for sure.
I lol'd at stoned Ragnar. They certainly went over the top after a few years with him. Now maybe that's just that actor though, he was in Raised by Wolves and basically played the same character. That show BTW had a cool concept but I thought it was mostly trash.

Oh 1000% - that show was stoned Ragnar in space, no doubt.

Haven't watched the new Chappelle, doesn't sound like there's any reason to, unless you want to watch the further descent of a once great comedian.

I highly recommend rewatching Spectre before you see No Time to Die. Spectre wasn’t great, but it was better than I remembered re-watching it last night. No Time to Die is a continuation of the story.

I thought Rami’s character wasn’t great, but I loved the rest of the characters (both new and recurring). Not going to spoil it, but I recommend going to see it asap before the spoilers are everywhere

Still a great comedian with a huge, gross, harmful blindspot that he can't seem to stop turning toward. Very disappointing.

I actually think the writing (plot sequence, twists, character variation) are all really good. Ep. 2 where they go home is a knock, but other than that, it is much better than the crap shows like Walking Dead that you all watch.

If you are referring to dialog by “writing,” that could also be influenced by the subtitling. And acting across cultures is very subjective, as you are imposing an analysis of “bad acting” or overacting on what could be differences in language intonation, accents, how different cultures express emotions, etc. I have no issues with bad acting in Squid Game, especially in comparison with aforementioned crap zombie show.

Spoiler:
I thought Episode 2 was incredible personally. Knowing where the show is headed I did not at all expect them to go home and watching the return home and then return to the game unfold was devastating to watch.

I saw a video describing how bad even the subtitle translations are. It's too bad b/c with the subtitles on, I really enjoyed the series, but, I feel it's probably better than I even realize.

Haven't seen his new one (didn't even know there was a new one)

But his last stand up I saw was really good. What are you guys referring to?
