Ayton deals: ORL, CHA, HOU, DET, yours?

Post#1 » by Xman » Tue Oct 5, 2021 3:19 pm

ok - so PHX will not pay Ayton. Better to deal him?
Also - picks can be added or deleted as needed. Tried to make the first few deals without picks.

ORL - Center is a big hole they are trying to fill. Obtaining a really good center that would sign the max and stay would be enticing.
ORL gets - Ayton, Saric, JSmith: - PHX gets - Suggs, Bamba, Carter
PHX would get its pg to replace PG3 in a couple of years and some center fodder.

CHA still trying to fill that center hole - and would round a nice staritng five of Melo/Rozier/Hayward/Oubre/Ayton.
CHA gets - Ayton, Saric, JSmith: PHX gets - Bouky, KaiJ, Thor, Plumlee, (PJ or Bridges)

HOU - would Houston pay him?
HOU gets - Ayton, Saric: PHX gets Sengun, House, Garuba, Wood.
PHX gets a center that can create space, a veteran wing in House and two nice rookies (Sengun is doing great; Garuba is a project but PHX needs a muscle man).

DET - Ready to add their franchise center?
DET gets - Ayton, Saric, JSmith; PHX gets Grant, Hayes, Stewart
PHX adds Grant and a couple of nice young players.

Add yours.

We don't even have to get that far. Phoenix not handing Ayton a max contract today does not mean they do not wish to retain him and that a team that views itself as a contender with an old PG wants to trade their starting center and 3rd best player for a package of young players.

This premise is just highly flawed.

See how the season starts, if Wolves are bad, start the Ayton for Booker’s buddy Towns rumor.

Or just go full banana boat in PHX:
Paul for Simmons
Ayton+ for Towns

yes without hesitation from Charlotte but no the Suns are not trading Ayton, they will likely still match anything he gets as a RFA (or come to terms with him at that time)

As in Detroit gets way too good a deal? Agreed. Two lower level prospects and a solid starting forward don't get you Ayton of course. Plus they get a prospect back.

Look, Ayton has to be upset. The 3rd, 5th, 11th, and 14th picks are maxed. Phoenix is wrong on this one. He attitude is going to suck and he should try to move.

Centers are hard to find - ask CHA, BOS etc. A good one you could lock up for years - that is worth paying for and trading for.

Orlando lucked into Suggs. Yes, he should be a stud - but dealing him for a franchise center would be great for Orlando. Stars leave Orlando - A trio of Isaac/Fultz/Ayton long term is solid. Wagner and upcoming picks make them decent.

centers may be hard to find, but you dont have to have a great one to win it all. but you do need good wing play and/or solid leader. Look at what PHX did when they added CP3.

A trio of Fultz/Isaac/Ayton? Isaac cant stay healthy and Fultz cant shoot from the outside. That isnt part of a trio i want to pin any hopes on. Orlando keeps Suggs and builds around him.

I thinks Suggs could be great - but, you need a big man to win.
Look at the list of big men: Giannis, Davis, Gasol/Ibaka, Durant, TThompson (offset by having Lebron/Kyrie/KLove), Duncan, Bosh, etc.
A team needs either (a) 3 superstars (GS, CLE, etc.), or (b) a stud big man and some good help (LAL, MIL, etc.).

It is not that hard to get three really good players - look at BOS, CLE, GS, etc. A lot of others have guys that qualify off and on - CHA, LAC, MEM, etc.
That is why CHI paid so much to get Vuc. They believe in Lavine and PWilliams - and added DeRozan (Ball is there but he is fifth out of five). Almost every team has a good pg - and some have two or even three (CLE, TOR, DET, ORL, SAC, et.)

But, I get it. Like a few others, Orlando can keep rebuilding, and rebuilding, and rebuilding . . . . .

Didn't this team nearly win the championship?

If they trade Ayton it is for a piece that puts them over the top, not rebuilding parts.

For example, does Ayton + filler + picks get you Lillard?

I think the Suns will cave and either give him the max or let him hit RFA and match a 4-year max next year.
This isn't a Ben Simmons situation, they are likely negotiating between a few million dollars a year, and Ayton still likes Phoenix and their fans. I don't think a trade is likely for a pu pu platter of marginal talent. Suns would need a headliner coming back to get to be interested in a trade to trade him. They built their team around him -- so it would be a huge change in direction for a young team that just made the finals.

Would love him in GS, but don't see PHX being interested in our prospect platter. I'd offer them all though.

Wiseman/Kuminga/Moody/'22 1st for Ayton/filler.
I bought a boat.

No exact opposite. Grant >> ayton. And that's not counting 2 first round picks from last season - one of whom made the all rookie team.

A 14/10 traditional center isn't worth much in today's NBA. Heck, we just traded a 10/9 center for a 2nd rounder. Andre Drummund just signed a minimum deal. And Ayton is looking for a Max?

No, unless that filler is a a boat load of firsts.

Honestly, Ayton got abused a bit inside by Giannis. But, Giannis just beasts up and trucks most people in the NBA anyway.
I think PHX can get better - but not paying Ayton is not the way to do it. If they are not going to pay him, they should deal him because he will probably demand a trade or walk and either way, PHX loses.
If they deal him, it is hard to get value, especially if looking for veteran help now for a ring. Plus, PHX dealt a protected first which locks up first rounders until 2027.

A superstar would be nice - but Lillard is redundant to CP3 and Booker. Not saying he would not help, just saying it is not the best fit. Plus, the $$ is crazy hard to make work. Funny thing is it is easy to make $$ work with Ayton going to POR - Nurkic+Covington+picks for Ayton+Saric.

There are simply not many centers available - so might get something nice back but what does PHX do inside? PG, SG and SF are set. PF and C could use help. Turner and Wood are the most commonly mentioned. Randle? I mention Bamba/Carter but the jury is still out on them. Maybe Ayton+Saric+Smith for Adams+JJJ?

Lots of options if PHX decided to add picks/ Or even recent picks: Ayton for Wiseman and Kuminga, etc.

I’d do the deal, but I will take exception to referring to Isaiah Stewart as “lower level”.

He won’t be an All-Star or anything like that but he’ll be a pretty good player.

I agree the deal is rich for us. Not being willing to offer the max isn’t the same as being willing to deal him below market value, which this definitely would be.

Would I be wrong to say that in a Jaylen Brown/DeAndre Ayton swap that Phoenix would be the team owing some additional value?

If BOS does go for some sort of shakeup maybe I could see something there. Particularly if an offseason S&T for Beal or midseason trade comes to fruition.
