Ok - Grant is a numbers hog (high volume, low %) and not as good as Ayton. Not saying he is worthless but Grant is not all that.

A combo of Cade/Bey/Ayton would be solid.

Also, if PHX sticks to its plan to avoid the luxury tax, then rookie contract might be the most interesting so GS might have a shot.

As in Detroit gets way too good a deal? Agreed. Two lower level prospects and a solid starting forward don't get you Ayton of course. Plus they get a prospect back.

I’d do the deal, but I will take exception to referring to Isaiah Stewart as “lower level”.

He won’t be an All-Star or anything like that but he’ll be a pretty good player.

That's fair. And I should have phrased that differently. I just was remembering from the Pistons off-season thread that Pistons fans seemed to have a pretty realistic ceiling set for Stewart--in other words not a premium asset to be the centerpiece of a deal.

But I would have Stewart more valuable than Wiseman right now for some context on my views on his value.

Brown is a really good player. But, center is harder to find as Boston has seen. Plus, with Booker and Bridges (and even Cam), PHX does not need Brown even with him being really good.
PHX dominated MIL on the outside. Mil dominated PHX on the inside - and won. PHX would need some muscle added even if they kept Ayton but especially if they deal him.

This is pretty silly. Ayton isn’t going anywhere

If Ayton gets something close to the max it marginalizes his value, imo. The deal isn't unreasonable for Detroit, but they're giving up three players under control for some time.

He has a particular skill set that serves the Suns very well. Rim runner, shot blocker, rebounder, has his limits offensively. Not unlike Capela. You just wonder how he looks on a bad team.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Wiseman/Kuminga/Moody/'22 1st for Ayton/filler.

I'd be inclined to do this as Phoenix. Very competitive offer. Piston fans are balking at offering less.

If they trade Ayton it is for a piece that puts them over the top, not rebuilding parts.

For example, does Ayton + filler + picks get you Lillard?

No, unless that filler is a a boat load of firsts.

I understand that this topic might not be for everybody, but please refrain from junking up the conversation.

Lillard

Cap Hit: $39,344,900

$39,344,900 - $100,000 = $39,244,900
$39,244,900 / 1.25 = $31,395,920

$31,395,920 - $12,632,950 (Ayton) = $18,762,970

Phoenix would need to include an additional $18,762,970 in salary (filler) to make the trade possible.

The obvious question is why Phoenix would want to be so Guard (Lillard, CP3 and Booker) oriented with a relatively rotation with the Bigs.

To Mavs: Ayton + Gallinari

To Suns: Capela + Brunson

To Hawks: Porzingis + Payne

Sprinkle around draft picks to taste.

Mavs move on from Porzingis experiment while adding core player in Ayton.

Suns get a defensive center on locked in value contract and a guard to understudy Paul.

Hawks gamble on Porzingis while sending out a big contract Gallinari. Hawks are also deep at big man to manage carefully Porzingis wear.

**Hawks could desire Ayton directly for sure. Just figure they may value Porzingis shooting and versatility at the 5.

I think the most likely outcome here is that Ayton hits RFA, realizes no one is going to offer him a max, and settles for whatever number the Suns give him if it's anywhere close to the number he wants.

Mavs don't have the picks to cover that value gap.

Hawks would be huge fools to trade Capela for KP. I don't think they'd trade Capela for Ayton considering contracts, but they would definitely cut Dallas out here in a heartbeat.

Dallas is just stealing gobs of value and the Suns and Hawks are too good to want picks to make that up.

4 teams that would offer him the max next year (all low cap so have the $$): NO, MEM, DET, ORL
If he signed the one year QO - to get true free agency - in two years: Add NY and Houston as suitors.

Ayton + for Capella + ???

Suns get a center who right now is on about the same level and has a reasonable contract. Hawks add a guy with a higher ceiling.

  This is objectively awful for the Hawks. We wouldn't trade Capela straight up for KP, let alone include Gallo. Also, Gallo is NOT on a bad contract. After this season his yearly number drops to under $5 million.

We place ZERO value on KP. We need a center who defends the rim way more than we need another shooter on a team full of good shooters.

Loving this thread. Gonna be fun seeing this board spend the whole year trying to trade Ayton after spending all of last year trying to trade John Collins.

Xman wrote:I thinks Suggs could be great - but, you need a big man to win.
Look at the list of big men: Giannis, Davis, Gasol/Ibaka, Durant, TThompson (offset by having Lebron/Kyrie/KLove), Duncan, Bosh, etc.
A team needs either (a) 3 superstars (GS, CLE, etc.), or (b) a stud big man and some good help (LAL, MIL, etc.).

It is not that hard to get three really good players - look at BOS, CLE, GS, etc. A lot of others have guys that qualify off and on - CHA, LAC, MEM, etc.
That is why CHI paid so much to get Vuc. They believe in Lavine and PWilliams - and added DeRozan (Ball is there but he is fifth out of five). Almost every team has a good pg - and some have two or even three (CLE, TOR, DET, ORL, SAC, et.)

But, I get it. Like a few others, Orlando can keep rebuilding, and rebuilding, and rebuilding . . . . .

who was the stud big man when Toronto won the title? (dont say Gasol, he put up 9ppg, 7 rpg)
what about when Golden State won? For Cleveland it was all about Lebron/Kyrie. Thompson was a role player.

No reason for Orlando to consider trading Suggs.

Ayton is going no where, definitely not this season anyway. But, I like this thread.

For OKC I'd offer: Favors, Dort, Williams, 2 FRP
PHX sends: Ayton

I'd include more picks from OKC. But, I doubt it's the right deal. Feels like PHX would want more win-now pieces.

Any trade is hard to come up with given PHX books. They have a pretty good cap sheet right now, which makes it tough to find good trades for him.

Was trying to find a way to switch Ayton and Gobert. But, their money is too far off.

Would love to add him to Detroit, I'm sure we'll offer him a max in the off-season regardless which the Sun's will match

Wow that is one terrible trade.

Did you miss when he got played off the floor in the finals?

This is just so far from reality, literally GSW would never make that move.

Hornets are not fully out of a rebuild so I think the goal will be to increase the cost-controlled talent base. The first owed the Knicks is top 18 protected, so it's like the Hornets plan to continue adding cost-controlled talent, supplemented by bargain buys like Plumlee. I think a buy low target like Bamba fits the direction more than Ayton. I hope the Suns retain Ayton. They were one of my favorite teams to watch in the playoffs, the other being the Hawks.
