Re: [Woj] Official: Sumner and 2nd to Brooklyn
Good overall moves from Brooklyn in my view for the reasons I said in the other thread.
I know it's just a 2nd but this feels like a lot to move Sumner's not large salary. Feels more like a cash transaction or maybe a swap rights for a 2nd but whatever.

Opening a roster spot for a trade? Seems odd Brooklyn would take more salary, especially when Sumner is out for the year.

Re: [Woj] Official: Sumner and 2nd to Brooklyn
Bummer we had to dump him, but with the achilles injury that will keep him out all season, it's probably the best course of action for the Pacers.
This will put the Pacers about $3.09m under the luxury tax, with 14 players signed. It also may secure Kelan Martin's roster spot for the season, and opens a competition for the 15th roster spot. Reportedly, look for Keifer Sykes to have the upper hand as a small 3rd string PG that Carlisle allegedly likes.

Basically Brooklyn wanting to open up a roster spot. So they traded Sekou and a 2nd to create a TPE for Sumner and a 2nd. Brooklyn cuts Sumner which saves $1 million on the cap and much more in taxes than if they just cut Sekou. And all it cost was basically swapping some 2nds.

He's out for the season. It was an easy financial move to clear room under the luxury tax for Indy. Now, moving Lamb isn't really a need, and may not be a priority until Warren can possibly return healthy.

Indy signing Wannamaker to a camp deal. Wouldn't think this means he makes the team though.

Actually that's a fair point. They could have just stopped at dumping Sekou and used the same savings to buy a 2nd at some point but hey if the owner's fine with it then great!

Yeah. Will be interesting to see if this turns into a little 3 way and Brooklyn maybe just keeps a 2nd, with the Miami 2nd from Indy going straight to Houston? Or something of the like.

Re: [Woj] Official: Sumner and 2nd to Brooklyn
Obviously most of the focus has been on Brooklyn here, but obviously I like this for the Pacers. Get some wiggle room and flexibility for a distant pick.

Did Indy turn down Sekou for Sumner?

No idea if Brooklyn tried to do that, but Indy wanted to reduce salary not add it so can't imagine that would have gone anywhere.

It would have been really bad for us, so can't imagine they would have considered it. This deal put Indy from $700k under the tax line, to around $3m under the tax line. If we swapped Sumner for Sekou, we would have gone about $500k INTO the tax. Obviously not something Indy is looking to do.

Yeah he's got a torn Achilles. This move just gives the Pacers a bit of breathing room from the tax line and a roster spot.
