The Bulls Are Going To Be A Problem

Post#1 » by oldshoolballer » Wed Oct 6, 2021 3:00 pm

Just preseason just the hapless Cavs but I already see a team with cohesiveness and high IQ basketball you usually don't see until midseason. Ball, DeRozan Vucevic and LaVine already are jelling at a high level. Caruso was a another great pickup. And then there's Patrick Williams. I think he's going to be great at 19 the kid is showing flashes that he's going to be special. Bulls fans it's been a long time but I really like this team I got them 3rd behind the Bucks and Nets.

Been too long since the Bulls made a meaningful run. Hopefully this team can take them deep this year!

Yeah they’re winning it all for sure.

But for real, while I don’t put much stock in pre season, I do think the Bulls will be a force offensively this season.

But can they defend?

3rd is too optimistic imho
I do think Derozan is a good locker room guy though and Lavine genuinely wants to win at this point in his career. Ball has seemed like a good guy that does things the right way too, not being afraid to work on his outside shot for example and happily feeding stars like Zion without worrying about getting his own even in a contract year. Don't know much about Vuc but never heard anything bad about him. Caruso seems like the perfect garbage man, versatile and willing to do whatever helps the team the most.
I could see these guys gelling and surprising some people if they are all willing to sacrifice and buy in. Not sure about 3rd seed though. It's possible but I have questions about their depth and especially their defense.

The Bulls own the greatest statue in the history of the world, so they are special already, no need to win games or rings anymore.

They only beat a Cavs team that lost 50 games last year & it's preseason.

Let’s not go crazy after one pre season against the Cavs (even though the Bulls were without Williams, White and a few other players). I think there’s a good reason to be excited for the Bulls for the upcoming season. But I would temper expectations that they are a legit contender for now. Let’s hope they make the playoffs first.

I’m rooting for them to do well. That fan base is way too passionate to have such a terrible product as they’ve had the past decade. Plus as a Toronto guy I’m dying to see DeMar win.

Whole Lot of bulls fans are setting themselves up for a big disappointment. None of the players they acquired to make a big 3 are winners......( Lavine, Derozan , Ball) . And yell are expecting what? ... deep playoff run? Championship? Me personally i expect a low seed ,and first round exit for the bulls. However, I will acknowledge that they are a better team now then last years bulls squad.

I think they are going to be better than most expect, but I think they are likely a second round exit sort of squad.

I'm just subscribing to this thread so that I can quote some of this in about 8-9 months.

Very small sample size and preseason against the Cavs but their defense was stellar last night.

13 steals, 11 blocks and the Cavs had 22 turnovers.
It’s encouraging at least the see the effort they put in. Will it translate over 82 regular season games and beyond? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Probably the main thing that impressed me most yesterday.

I watched last night, and I did like how they always had a troublesome point of attack defender with Ball or Caruso always on the floor. Very crucial because this defense's best chance at survival is being a disruptive, turnover-causing machine on the perimeter.

I don't like what's going on behind that point of attack. Last night they started Javonte Green (6'4") and Derozan at the forward spots. They're both shooting guard-sized. With Patrick Williams out for the start of the season, who are their forward options? Alize Johnson, Troy Brown Jr and Stanley Johnson was their frontcourt rotation off the bench. Imagine Vooch and this crew guarding Giannis, Lebron, Durant, Sabonis, Embiid, Randle etc. etc. (could have named 25 more players but you get the point).

I think this team will match up well with guard-heavy teams (Portland, GS, OKC, Phoenix, Washington) if they place an emphasis on pressuring lead ball handlers. I think the holes at the forward spots (Patrick Williams isn't a guaranteed solution) are going to have this team getting absolutely mashed in the paint.

For who?!

Legit not hating because certainly they SHOULD be improved but unless you mean for the other 4-5 teams (BOS, NYK, IND, TOR etc) vying for the 6-8th seed, I'm not seeing how they're a problem for anyone in the top 5 and certainly not a championship darkhorse (which usually is implied when people say "X" team is a "problem").

If they can play defence they will be good, even very good. But that's the main test for them.

Honestly a lot of this might fall on Donovan to make that side of the ball work.

After the talent they got this offseason I thought they would be a 4-6 seed team and I wouldn't want to play them if I'm a 3 seed. I think they'll be better than WAS, ATL, BOS, and NY. I'll give Spoelstra and Miami w Lowry the benefit of the doubt right now. Again I like the talent on the Bulls and Donovan's not a bad coach either.
