Re: Official Spec Thread: Heart and Hustle Magic 2.0
Don’t want to start another thread like the last one but Isaac is starting to really annoy me. Putting his vaccine beliefs aside, why does he think going on a Fox News interview and continuing to be a lightning rod for controversy is appropriate when he can’t even stay on the floor due to injury. It is totally his right to do it but it’s a really bad look.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

He's a hero in the conservative community. When he stood for the national anthem his jersey shot up to #2 in the NBA.bigdogdylan5 wrote:Don’t want to start another thread like the last one but Isaac is starting to really annoy me. I'm sure his anti-vaxx stance sold more jerseys. Isaac posted on his IG the other day, a guy that was so proud to get his new Isaac jersey.
We may not agree with him, but some people do. Would you have been okay if he agreed to an interview on your favorite news channel?

I think he cares more about his beliefs, and holding onto them, then his looks.

True and honest, not fake. Guy is brave, standing up to certain factions pushing agendas. Also, to those cute little, hateful Atheists. Good for him. Now we shall see about what he can actually do for his basketball team on the court

Fundamental issue with his bealifes comes from fact that Pope Francis pretty much told people get vaccine. So his stands are not only anti vaccination but also "solo ride" without support from chatolic church.

From purely a business perspective, the Wiggins/Irving relations to the vaccine are really odd to me. Why would a young millionaire turn down huge sums of money for "freedom"? That Wiggins "caved" is logical. For Irving to hold the line is shear insanity.
Back to Isaac: I guess I accept the narrative from some that Isaac not being engaged with the team this year helps Orlando lose games (and get more lotto balls). But what does Isaac get out of that? What he needs to do is get healthy and stay healthy. His knee is one area we all worry about. And here's hoping that the physio is going well and he becomes a ten-year plus contributor to this team.

I don’t have a favorite I think they all are bad. It’s not the fact he is conservative it’s the fact that he is injured and can’t stay healthy you would think he would keep his head down and not invite controversy right or wrong

Sorry want to reiterate absolutely no issues with his beliefs it’s the fact that he isn’t playing and seems to have no return date for the good of the team I think he should keep his head down because the other players are going to get asked about this and he won’t be around to answer because he will be in street clothes

Kyrie is an odd bird. The whole flat earth thing.
This history of US testing vaccines on the African-American community is repulsive. At the same time Kyrie needs to be able to separate history from the current situation, and individual rights and that of privilege. If he leaves $15M+ dollars on the table that is money that is gone. I certainly don't have any insight on Irving's financial situation other than his contracts, but that is a lot of money. He need's someone he trusts to sit him down and talk to him. Don't die on this hill. We could still be in this situation next year, are you going to sit out again. The year after. Ask Kyrie: Are you prepared to to take a 50% pay cut for the rest of your career? This is generational wealth you could be turning your back on.
That argument goes for Simmons as well.
As for Isaac. I get his argument that he should have natural antibodies, a lot of my friends have made that argument as for why they wouldn't get the vaccine. It still doesn't exempt you from the rules that society makes to defend itself, especially as an entertainer of said society.
JI...I don't know....I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in the bubble. This latest stand makes me wonder. I am all for one using their platform to express their thoughts, but it's a dangerous game as a public persona to choose a side in the current US culture wars, and after that Fox News interview it seems like he is on a side. It also appears like the political powers have taken notice and are standing with our man. Sharing disinformation on Fox News will do that.
Who knows...maybe I am completely wrong...or JI totally wants to go heel. The NBA always seems to have one.

JI wants to go into preaching after his NBA career and aligning with Fox News and Trump are the best ways to fill the seats.
To me, JI is too much trouble/distraction for what he provides us on the court at this point. Maybe if he had played in 80% of possible games but he's only played in 40%. This Fox News stuff makes 3 headlines in two years and none of them for basketball.

Right? If JI can't play because of his injury, shouldn't he still be doing everything he can to help the team? How does going on Fox News help the team at all? It only serves him.

I'm sure he didn't call them and ask for an interview. Plus I don't watch Fox, but they do have a huge following. Many of them might idolize Isaac. If MSNBC called, he would've probably did an interview for them too.swarlesbarkley wrote:bigdogdylan5 wrote:Sorry want to reiterate absolutely no issues with his beliefs it’s the fact that he isn’t playing and seems to have no return date for the good of the team I think he should keep his head down because the other players are going to get asked about this and he won’t be around to answer because he will be in street clothes

How is going on any platform going to help the team? I don't care if it's MSNBC or Fox. If he got called, I think his answer should be "no thanks, I saw how divisive my statements were from last week and I want to be sure to stay focused on the 21-22 nba season with my team." His decision to speak up was solely a self serving one. Even his comments speak to individual liberties.
And of course Fox has a huge following - JI is gonna have sold out megachurches to run when his NBA career is over.

Funny... when it's players for 'caring more about their beliefs, and holding onto them, then their looks' for black lives matter, it's a problem for that same audience.

My comment said nothing about what I've bolded.
I do think his statement/view is a terrible take but that's not the issue here.
The issue is JI is injured, not playing, taking months longer in his recovery than the typical timeline (for the 2nd or 3rd time), and instead of doing everything he can to help the team as the highest paid Orlando Magic player, he's responding to obvious media scripts determined to divide and separate (or speak to a very specific subsection of the country) - including the team and fans.
His decision to take the call from Fox (or whatever news outlet) is a self-serving decision. And before it gets compared to athletes speaking up about BLM, JI isn't trying to bring awareness to anything like BLM.

I totally agree with you on keeping these stupid political takes out of the discussion here. Somehow, I bet most of the posters upset with Isaac were totally fine when it was the kneeling/etc. I didn't care then, I don't care now. Nearly everyone in the NBA, outside of the G-League dudes, are literally the wealthiest 1% in the world (You only need 9 mil BTW), they don't live in our reality.
Serious question: Has Isaac said he is anti-vaccine, or just that he doesn't want the Covid vaccine?

I'm sure he's doing everything the organization asks him to do, plus some. Seems like they're being extra cautious with him. He's questionable for the season opener, and that's better than doubtful.swarlesbarkley wrote:basketballRob wrote:Many of the Fox viewers might become Isaac and Magic fans.
