I guess not ironic that bringing back Cobb and King probably cost us from having the best secondary we've had in a decade.

You would think they at least discussed it with him otherwise, Carolina is just dumb.

Ugh. I also didn't realize until just now that Cobb has 2.8M in dead money on his contract if he's cut after this year.

Just paging all of the people that have been saying, "do whatever you can to make Aaron happy" over the last few months.

Cobb is nice and could be useful...but he is replaceable and ate up our cap space to make the QB happy. So now we'll have a reliable 3rd WR instead of a good CB when King gets burned and we lose for the 30th time in a row giving up 40 or lose on some back-breaking defensive brain fart in the playoffs.

I generally don't spend too much time bashing Gutey but the idea that the Packers wanted Gilmore and that he was open to coming here but we **** up our cap too much to take him on makes Gute and the front office look pretty **** dumb.

The King move can be questioned for sure.

The rest of them are:
1. We went all-in starting 2 years ago. Due to COVID, we had to go more and more all-in and restructured basically our entire roster.
2. Rodgers begged for Cobb and we had to do it.

So other than King, it's hard to blame Gute for this specific issue.

We already had to go double double all-in because this is probably the last dance.

All of you that knew Gilmore was going to be available 4 weeks into the season, hit me up, I’d like to win the lottery.

I think there are opportunities to acquire players every year, you just never know who or to what quality the players on the block might be.

A reply to that Rob Demovsky tweet says we did have enough cap space, 5.8 mil cap hit, 7.2 cap space.

Semantics.

I thought it was $7mm hit, but say it is $5.8mm.

We have another key injury or two - we need to sign some filler players...where does that cap space come from?

$1.3 or $1.4 million for the rest of the year is borderline impossible to work with. And what if he's not healthy/not 100%?

Wow, yeah spotrac says we have 8.8M...I think there has to be some funny math going that we opened up that much, makes me wonder if there was some extension type talk with the Panthers that Gilmore thought he had a better chance cashing in if he went there, who knows?

I may be misspeaking slightly here, but I think since the Ted era, the Packers would have $10-12 million in cap space in most seasons.

I think that's the rainy day fund + you can roll it into next season + can work with extensions. I'm sure some arguments can be made that they weren't aggressive enough with that.

Here's the thing: Gutey had that rainy day fund. I think we had $13mm or so, so you can acquire a guy for $5-7 million and still have a few million to work with.

Oops! We acquired that guy already! It was Randall Cobb. Aaron the GM already made our move.

Again, King can be argued on Gute's side but I guess the idea was that he was a passable 2nd/3rd CB and we got better there than we would've on the market and assumed we were going to have that $12 million remaining still...and then Cobb.

There's also a tweet saying that Gilmore wanted to go to Carolina and the Patriots floated the cutting thing for leverage but knew they'd do him a favor and send him where he wanted to go. I think the tweet is on this thread.

Yea the cap issue isn't Gute's fault at all.

Some of you are completely out there with the absurd GM worship.

The King move was/is/will be garbage.

I'm not sure who here is "worshipping" Gute. The King move was garbage but a lot of his other moves the past 2 years have worked out well. And some haven't. Like every other GM. Hindsight is 20/20 both pro and con.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
