SPURS GAME DAY! PRE-SEASON GAME 2: SPURS AT PISTONS, 6-10-2021, 6PM (CT)

A solid start but the follow up is important, too. Perhaps we'll see different line-up combinations, perhaps we'll see a redistribution of minutes. Whatever the tweaks, seeing consistency in defense and transition play will help solidify what we've been working on. Bring that Wilder energy!

Hmm. Lonnie getting the start. Interesting. Going to put my speculation glasses on - 'tis the time to read too much into the smallest change - and presume that it's a bit if a showcasing of Lonnie. DJ's resting. From what, who knows, but he's a known commodity, and confirmed how comfortable he is in various aspects of our game, be it transition or half court sets.

Lonnie balling early. Good to see. He's someone who has deferred and sort of hung in the background far too much in past seasons. Getting him going early is key. Making him the go-to guy ignites him.

1ST Q: SPURS 22

PISTONS 39

Thankfully I missed most of the 1ST Q due to a very choppy stream. Just as well. Now if we can just defend some, and aim for the hoop in the middle (apparently we're seeing three of them out there), we can make this respectable.

Derrick needs these games to get his feet under him and his rhythm back, but another slow start from him. He should look to attack more.

KJ and Dev combined 1-10 so far in the 2ND Q. Not a good start for guys we need to step up.

We've already scored one more point i the 2ND Q than in the entire 1ST and there's still over 5 minutes left.

It's great that we're battling on the O boards and getting second and third chances, not so much that we have to do it from misses and that we don't take advantage of the hard work guys are putting in

There it is! Must have left it under the laundry pile or something. Glad we found it. Energy generates energy, and now we're making some shots.

2ND Q: SPURS 51

PISTONS 54

We at least made it respectable. It came through better D, though we have to work on defending the arc.

Good job on the boards (32-21) but it also means there were a lot of misses.

Lonnie's handles, body control, and finish at the rim are noticeably better.

Keldon struggling 3-13, no sugar coating it.

Pop going with a different rotation and subs tonight so new guys have to get used to one another, but still, someof the misses are down to individual skill.

Derrick usually nails those in the key flaoters alas...

Jakob's passes are as good as his post moves are poor. He made a graet cross court pass to Bryn for a left corner 3 miss, but had he had some moves he could have taken his man. He can't have nothing there. He should have developed something by now. Really good in transition, but just gives up the ball if he has to make a post move. Needs to work on that.

We seem to score better when we're desperate and behind, then lift the foot off the pedal, get lax and go back to missing. Bad last few O possessions. When some guys are in a position to score, they get hot potato hands because they can't take their man one-on-one. It then makes for a 'you take it' 'no you take it!' type of situation.

Still, we've managed to put up 52 shots, including 19 from 3. But we need to be more deliberate about the quality of shots to bring up our poor efficiency (20-52 38%)). We're actualy shooting better from the 3! (8-19 for 42%). Only 3-5FTs so getting to the FT line is a priority.

Good 2ND Q 29-15 even if we let up towards the end there. Sparty with the hot hand leading us in scoring, 12 on 4-7, 4-6 from 3.

JAKOB leading us in assists with 5. Derrick 0 assists. Come on my guy, bring up your game!

Strong push now, Spurs!

Pop tweaking, seeing what each of the young guys can give in the starting group. Nobody freak out that Bryn's in the starting group!

Aaaaaan there goes the lead. We definitely have to find reliable go-to scorers from the bench from among Devin/Lonnie.

And we definitely need more from Derrick and Keldon on O as well. We know they have it because they've shown it, but they're off so far.

Lonnie has showed up today, but like I said, it's about consistency.

It'll be interesting once DJ, Primo, Tre all get time, but with all seemingly resting, we're in a scoring drought.

3RD Q: SPURS 76

PISTONS 84

We closed the lead gap once again before giving up a drive (late help D for Aminu who was guarding the perimeter driver), and then giving up an O reb for a hustle putback while missing a 3 the other way.

It's interesting that Thad and even Aminu are getting minutes over Luka. Could be nothing or something. Aminu can hit that 3, good to see, but he's far too slow on D to guard anything. The effort is there, the execution is not.

We look out fo sync on O. And given the line-ups we're trotting out, it's no wonder. But then again, we expect Keldon and Devin ad Derrick to be making some impact.

Ugh. The only stream I can find that actually works must be the same stream you're watching. Stuttering like crazy. I have no idea what's happening its soo bad. I can't watch anymore so I really have no comments on how we are playing. I should have just went to the game but whatever.....

We do seem out of it pretty much from what I can gather. I didn't even know Thad Young was playing my stream was soo bad LOL

Down 17 again. That lineup with Thad/Drew as the bigs was a hot spacing mess. Live and learn. Thad and Jakob weren't much better, really. These guys look like they haven't played together before - Lonnie running into Thad was a lowlight lol

Primo / Landale time!

Hey Primo got the instructions - pass to Luka! He's shown a nice patient drive (if awkward, but finished it well at the rim) a sweet up and under spin post move in the key, and a high low pass to Luka who had his man sealed for an easy 2).

Lots of experimenting with line-ups and rotations to predictable results. I think you'd have been upset lol so just as well you stayed home.

You'd have been impressed with Primo, though. Kid can play.

DJ, I have to say, is an important factor for us. Derrick's not consistent yet, and DJ has surpassed him in terms of running the team and making effective plays on both ends. He leads the team as PG better. Credit to him.

From what little I saw, I did witness White just casually turn the ball over by dribbling carelessly like its no big deal to turn the ball over like he usually does. He needs someone to get him to stop that.
